Hey Everyone,

This is my first post and the beginning of my journey to lose weight. I've been reading the forum for a couple of days now, and committed to start everything on the first day of lent, while giving up soda.

As of this moment I'm 6'5'' and 330lb with 30.5% body fat. This makes my BMI 38.1 and according to the BMI indexes, I need to get down to 220 pounds even for the large frame that I have. I've decided this is ridiculous seeing as how that would mean losing more than 100% of my body fat.

I'm not sure what a reasonable goal for weight should be, so I'm going to start with the goal losing 30 pounds to get me under 300lbs in about 10 to 12 weeks. Once I reach this point I'll re-evaluate. If anyone has any idea what a good weight goal might be, I'd love some input.

My Goal is to eat Healthier, around 2500 cal/day. Do Cardio 5 to 6 days a week. and weight train 3 days a week.

I'm hoping that being a part of this forum will help me keep my goal.

Good luck with reaching your goal! I'm sure you will get a lot of support here, we are all (or mostly all) willing to help and be motivational.

welcome to the forum- eating healthier is a great place to start and relatively painless as well

BMI I think becomes a pretty useless number once you reach a certain point, so how you feel and you look will be a better judge

Hey welcome to the forum...good lord you're kinda tall...lol I think what you said about losing the first 30 pounds is a good idea and re-eval after....

you will get a lot of motivation around here and great support!

Good Luck!

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. Its help so far, today; 2 miles walk/jog intervals, and .5 hour lifting (upper body), 1300 calories burned according to my heart rate monitor.

Yeah, I'm pretty tall, and everyone seams to tell me that, so I get a good laugh from it. The best part is that every time I go home my mom asks me if I got taller.

Random Question, Where in NY are you from? I ask because I'm a mechanical engineering student at Rochester Institute of Technology. and your profile says you're interested in engineering.

Hi everyone, My name is Kathy, live in Sunny California and have 4 Daughters. I am 53 years old and during the last 6 months I gained 50 lbs.

I signed up with LA Diet Center and so far have lost 5 lbs. in 1 week. It is expensive but it is great to have to be accountable to someone 2 X a week. It makes you think twice before you break the diet.

Anyway weight has always been an issue in my life since a small child. Current I am at 255 lbs. and want to get back down to 170 lbs.

It is great to have some people to share with as I feel alone in this at times.

Thanks for having me!
