Hello world...I'm Suzy and I want to be 160!

I am still confused on why you guys can't have a piece of chocolate. Why are you denying something that WON'T do any harm? It only leads to harm if you have more than you allot for. I am not saying eat 500 calories worth, but certainly, there has to be room in your caloric intake for 100 calories of some sweetness. Most diets should be about portion / self-control / discipline and not EXTREME's. Those tend to lead to failure...

And stop SAYING it has no nutritional value!!!

Day 4

Day 4: 218
What did I do: Went to the gym and kept up the food journal

Had written today's post and got timed out again. Did a search and think I figured out why it wasn't working (need to click "Remember me" box). Grrr...oh well... :nopity:

Thanks for the support re sugar/chocolate cravings!! Darth you are so fortunate not to experience withdrawal symptoms from white sugar. They don't call it "kiddy cocaine" for nothing(!) All I know is, some days I'm fine and some days if I eat one chocolate chip cookie it's the whole bag.

You guys are awesome...I think if I'd found the site earlier I'd still be at 160...

Have a great evening!

Suzy :bigear:

Meh, I call bullshit. I've read the studies regarding sugar's effect on rats and drug like symptoms. Problem is... you aren't a rat. Unless of course, you are a rat typing at the keyboard, I am impressed and my apologies. ;)

Instead, I pose this Self control: what do you want more? To lose the weight or to pound away chocolate? I think you'll find that having a few pieces that are allocated for in your dietary log are more satisfying and rewarding than binging on a bag. Before you dismiss me as some guy who doesn't know sugar "addiction", I used to eat at least 2 bags a week of Take 5 bars... instead, I would eat one a day, until the point I wanted to use my calories for other things instead of Take 5 bars, but I didn't deny myself totally of the "urge". The urge just went away and I found that an apple or a banana was more satisfying (fiber = more gooder). As a matter of fact, I can't remember a time (outside of the holiday this past week) that I've even eaten anything chocolate.

I Agree.....you can hit just about anything IN MODERATION.

But I will add, I used to be able to take-down big portions of heavy-calorie decadence for desert.....and today, eating anything more then 200 calories of white-sugar based stuff makes me quickly feel rather lousy.

Day 5 (yesterday)

Day 5: 218
What did I do: Kept up the food journal

Took a day off from the gym because my shins were hurting. Yikes I'm out of shape!! :svengo:

New Year's Eve was nice. Didn't go crazy with food or alcohol. Annual gathering today at my parents' place might be more challenging. The hard part is remembering ahead of time what I want to do. Sometimes my response with food is unconscious/automatic. Somebody offers me a plate, it looks good, I take one, I eat it and everything has happened before I'm totally aware of what I'm doing.

One good thing about it being the second time through is I just(!) have to remember and get back into the habit of what I was doing before. It is smoother because there isn't all the trial and error. However...it is not any easier!!!

Um, the comments on white sugar are getting a little irritating. Gentlemen, if you find you can eat chocolate, etc in moderation my hat is off to you! My personal experiences are different...Sometimes for me the best course of action is to avoid it completely. Perhaps we might move on...

Happy New Year everybody! :biggrinjester: :seeya:

Hey Suzy! I'm looking to lose about 60lbs also! Good job keeping your diary up to date! I've done a terrible job with that so far (and gained weight at the same time yikes). Hope your family gathering went well. I find if I eat before I go some place than I'm not going indulge as much. Although sometimes that unhealthy food looks too good to resist and I end up eating more on top of what I ate before the unhealthy stuff was there! I have a hard time resisting that sweet tooth too. I tried to convince my husband we needed ice cream last night and today but the good news is he said "no we don't need it." I'm glad he has the self control to say no!!

Hey Suzy!

Happy New Year...I get what you say about chocolate...I am exactly the same, once I start, I just can not stop. I have willpower and self control, but when it comes to sugar I just need to go cold turkey. I did find last time I went on a healthy eating programme that after a few weeks I could have sweeter items, they quickly made me feel sick, so I knew when to stop.

You are doing great...:)

Suzy... For what it's worth, I'm with you on sugar. I have the same issue. People can argue all day long about addiction, psychology... whatever...

What I know is that if I am not around it, I don't eat it. If I am around it, and I have one... I'm gonna have more - maybe a lot more! Read my journal. I've quit smoking... IT WAS EASIER than walking away from a plate of cookies for me. I'm not trying to say that the other guys are wrong in what they are trying to say, I'm just saying thatit doesn't work for everyone and obviously, you and I are people who have trouble with self control when it comes to sweets. Chocolate is your crack, mine is cakes and cookies... Avoidance is a better plan for us.

I'm here for support, hun, I understand. C'mon over and visit my place here sometime. I can relate, I'm human, I do some good stuff with exercise and such and sometimes fuck up at a colossal level with food... We're all human. Little by little I'm winning, you can too.

Cabbie,

My last post wasn't because she didn't agree with me, it was because she was being dismissive on something we were talking about, it was obnoxious and rude, just because it doesn't fit into her ideaology doesn't mean it isn't something that can't be discussed (and maybe someone else opinion could do her some good considering most fat people don't know their own body very well).
However, since it is her diary, I'll acknowledge that and move on... if this were any other thread, I wouldn't have been so considerate on the fact. However, I will tell you this, people who avoid foods at all costs due to dieting, tend to be the ones who gain it all back in the end. This isn't meant to be ominous nor black and white, it's merely observational at best. Trying to hard will just set you back...

Suze, I know exactly what you mean about sugar. It's not the fact that having one is bad if you can fit it into your calories. I'm the same way, I eat one and it leads to more and more. One isn't nearly satisfying and so I have more and more. So it's just better not to give in because once I do, I'm screwed! So I totally get ya! So I'm still proud of you for avoiding your temptation!

Guys if you don't have that problem, that's awesome, but for someone who does have that problem it's really hard especially when not being supported.

As for the fact to avoid it completely, I don't. I have my sweets on special occasions, I'll eat cake, cheesecake, whatever desserts are there on birthdays, christmas, a nice outting every so often. What I avoid is eating it during my normal routine. I don't need it to be part of my routine but I will eat it on special days. That way, I'm not depriving myself, but not overdoing it or risking overdoing it.

Suze, I always want to mention that you're doing awesome with your workouts! You're really off to a great start.

Day 6 and 7 (yesterday)

Day 6: 218
What did I do: Kept up my food journal

Day 7: 218
What did I do: Kept up my food journal

Hi! Was away for a day with social stuff... New Year's Day went reasonably well.

Need to go to the gym!!

Have a great day everybody :troll:

Suzy

Hey there! I am on my way to 60 pounds lighter myself. :) I'm hear with you and wish you the best of luck! I'll be stopping on in regularly. :D

Hey, good job on keeping up your food journal. Sometimes it just feels like a chore! lol

Days 8, 9 and 10

Day 8: 218
What did I do: Went to the gym and kept up the food journal

Day 9: 218
What did I do: Kept up the food journal

Day 10: 218
What did I do: Went to the gym and kept up the food journal

Gym is up to 20 minutes now. The hardest part is going first thing in the morning, but for me that's what works. If I tell myself I'll go later in the day, I know from past experience there is a 50/50 chance (at best) that I'll make it. Something always manages to "come up"...!

Going back to work after the holidays in two days, so I want to get the routine established.

Cheers!

Suzy :seeya:

Beautiful Suzy! You are gaining consistency and increasing your gym time. You will have this down in no time.

Day 11

Day 11: 218
What did I do: Went to the gym and kept up the food journal

Today when I got up to go to the gym it didn't seem quite as totally hideous... Still gross, though(!)

Going back to work tomorrow so I have to get up an hour earlier to keep doing this. Trying to keep reminding myself the reason I'm doing this is because I want to feel and look better. :troll: It does get better...While I don't think I'll ever be one of those people who rushes off to work out for the endorphin high, I know it can be at least a reasonably pleasant part of the daily routine.

Anyways must go...Time to get new tires for the car :auto:

Have a great day everybody!!

Suzy

Wow... Mad props on the morning gym routine. I tried that for mmmm TWO DAYS and I gave up. lol. I just couldn't find it in me. I am now on the night workouts (I go after I get off work at 9pm or so). I've heard though you get better results if you do it in the am. =/

Well anyways... DAY ONE of the NY CHALLENGE!! :grouphug:

Day 12

Day 12: 218
What did I do: Went for a walk outside and kept up the food journal

The walk this morning felt good and breaks things up a bit. Today it's back to work!

Suzy :seeya:

Walking is a terrific way to burn off some pounds. There are a couple of people here who have burned off near legendary amounts of weight primarily through walking.
