Hi Everybody,

I need help! I looked at a few of the forums before I registered and I liked all the advice that was given. I have been struggling with my weight for about 5 years now. I really want to lose weight but I lack the motivation behind it. Over the past few years I have done the gym thing and I lose interest after a few months. I am currently 5ft 3in and approx 265 (I don't like to weigh myself), about 5 years ago I was about 150. I need to lose weight but I don't even know how to start. I would love any advice that you can give me!

My goal would to lose at least 100lbs....I'm not looking to do it all at once. I just want a healthy way to do it, and something that wont' make my skin sag around my stomach and arms....(which by the way are the parts that I dislike the most!)

Thanks so much!

I'm a new member and I'm getting a lot of support from this forum. I hope you're able to receive the same. I love chatting with others about weight loss and nutrition lifestyle changes. I don't believe in D.I.E.Ts because you’re Doing It Every Time. You have to look at eating healthy as a lifestyle change instead. You achieved weight the loss fight 5 years ago but due to Life’s situations things changed. I want you to know that today you are still standing. You’ve identified the problem so take it from there. Take small steps because the weight didn’t appear overnight so don’t expect it to disappear overnight either. You’ve mentioned that you’ve heard a lot of good advice and yet you haven’t made a move. Since you’re reaching out again maybe you should listen to some of the advice previously given and apply it to your weight loss fight this time around. Take small steps maybe just changing your portion size and eat half of what you usually eat and mix it with exercise which should result in change. You’ve mentioned not enjoying exercising in the gym. The gym isn’t for everyone. You have to find your passion. I enjoy running so I took my exercise routine outdoors. I run all throughout the year unless the weather is bad then I resort to the treadmill. It’s boring but it’s something better than nothing. I recommend finding your passion and what works for you. The goal is to get those feet moving. Whatever you decide just be consistent. Good Luck.

Study the exercise and nutrition sections - especially the sticky threads.

Get a free account from and set up your profile and start logging your exercise and food today. You will see your calorie balance which shows whether you deserve to lose weight. Generally a deficit of 3500 calories equates to a loss of one pound - a surplus of 3500 calories equates to a gain of one pound.

Losing weight too quickly will certainly increase the risk of loose skin. A level of loose skin is quite likely when you have more weight to lose. I have loose skin - but less than I deserve to have...

Good nutrition enhances your weight loss and should help your skin. Fitday breaks down your nutrients so that you can apply what you have learnt in the nutrition section by altering your eating habits.

Exercise builds up your muscles which means that you are burning more calories while you exercise and when at rest too. Muscles in your arms for instance can fill the skin when the fat disappears - thus reducing the likelyhood of a loose skin problem there.

Only you can find the motivation for you to lose weight. No-one can help you with that. Believe that it is perfectly possible. Try browsing some of the before / after threads.
