Hello Im a newbie here

I just turned 51 and have been overweight most of my life. Ive lost weight before and now, I want to lose the weight steadily and keep it off. Im in the right frame of mind to do it. Right now Im out of work and dont have disposable income however, I dont want to use that as an excuse. Looking for exercise tips I can do at home; I plan to go walking. There is a college near me that is being renovated and once it's done, I plan to find out the gym costs [college gyms tend to be cheaper]..but that'll be a while yet... I found this site and liked the comments so I hope to sit, read and enhance my motivation. I look forward to sharing my journey .... and hearing others that'll give me a boost. I also realise Im going to have to log on even when Im finding it difficult. I dont know how much I weigh and that's deliberate. I must be close to 320 llbs and need to lose minimum 120-130. My height is 5.6 3/4. I dont mind saying I need help ... so any advice is welcome - thanks :).

Good on you for joining AL. Having the guts to take that first step is often the hardest (it's a cliche, but it's true).

In my own experience getting started has been the hardest part. Once I get going and I start to feel the benefits (not just on the scales but my mood and outlook) it is alot easier to keep it going. The things that I have found that help me do this are exercising with friends (a swim, a walk, a bike ride, golf...anything!). Getting outdoors with friends is a great way to help you stick to it as it's very easy to talk yourself out of something when it is just you!

Take it in gradual steps though. Don't think about the outcome, concentrate on achieving your goal in stages and reward yourself every time you do something good.

YAY!!!! Losing weight at least getting started is just your frame of mind. Sounds like we got us a journey ahead.....lawdy i love new adventures.

I know we've all heard this and know it for a fact but until you do it, you reallly cant understand the impact of it....DRINK DRINK DRINK and then DRINK some more. Oh and i mean water (heehee) I drink 36 ounces before breakfast, at least 1 or 2 bottles (8 oz.) before lunch....,another 1 or 2 bottles in the afternoon...another 8 ounces before supper and another 8 ounces (or more) in the evening. Oh and i didnt even mention the 8 ounces that i also drink with my lunch and my supper. Give this a shot.....it works!!!!

I'm at 346.6 so understand the exercise part of it...we just cant do much yet..i of course cant do a sit-up so for now i sit on the side of the bed and do what i call fake situps (raise and lower) as if you you laying on ther floor. Started with 10 and today my second week went to 15!!!

I have one of those banks for my grandson that counts the money as you add it (weighs bout 3 pounds now) so as im using it for my arms. Lift both ways holding it up in your hand for your repitions then hold it down in your hand. You could use anything you could find in your home for this (even a can of vegtables)

Hope this helps some.....good luck to you!!!!!!
