Evening!
I am a Senior in High School who has been basically doing nothing fitness wise all of my life. I constantly go home and loaf around with my friends and girlfriend regularly getting any actual activity done. When it becomes to being fit I really have no clue what to eat or do. I am 6'2 and I weight 159.5 pounds, kind of skinny but I would like to lose some weight around my mid section and thighs. Possibly even gain some muscle on my arms; however, I am really shy about to go to the gym. Anyways, I was wondering if someone could possibly lead me in the right direction. I can become and stay motivated if I have a plan, I am useless without one. Its just the way I operate. In conclusion any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks,
Plaggue

I'd start by reading the stickies here at the tops of the various sub-forums. Start here:

I'd also start by making logical food choices and becoming more active. This doesn't mean you have to start some rigid program where you're going to the gym. Gather the troops (your friends and g/f) and go for hikes. Play sports. Do whatever it is you guys can find fun/value in that requires you being on two feet and moving around.

You're not bad for your weight and height. but if you want to lose a bit weight and gain a bit more muscle, it would look even better. if you can control yourself to stick to a healthy and low-calorie diet and do proper exercise every day, you will lose weight. dont feel shy to go to gym, people there are all having similar targets, and to be honest, you have a better shape than many of them in gym, so, be confident.

help is here

if you are shy to go to the gym then start with body weight exercises
push-ups
squats lunges
crunches
a little bit of something is better than a whole a lot of nothing....
take baby steps

Thanks for all of the responses, I greatly appreciate them :)

I think Im going to start figuring out food I should and should not eat. I already don't like sweets (chocolate, cake, candy) so I guess that helps. But I love Gatorade so much >_>.

Welcome...and good luck!!

But if I could offer ONE piece of advice that Steve has noted many times...and IMHO is THE single best thing to remember..

Do NOT get too rigid with a diet, nor with your exercise routine..

The stricter you are on yourself, the more that you'll possibly rebel later...and then quit altogether..

I've done MUCH better this time around because I took Steve's advice on that..

I don't "overly restrict" calories....I don't look to come out totally dead-tired after a workout..

When it comes to the diet itself...I allow myself more leeway....not talking about pigging out and all that..

But before I would always say I MUST eat this and stay away from that...etc. etc..

Now I just eat "smart" and IMHO that is a big part of it..

If I need to have a piece of cheese on a chicken breast sandwich then I have a damn piece of cheese...

It's amazing how just having that one piece of cheese on one sandwich of the whole day just takes away the pressure and makes it easy to follow a sensible diet..

Just be flexible and remember that you didn't put weight on in one night...so you're not going to take if off that way either...

Think longterm..
