hi everyone, my names john and am from northumberland, ive been trying various diets etc for about 15 years now , my largest loss been 56 lbs about ten years ago. back then i used to cycle to work(about ten miles away) and go to the gym at least 3 times aweek. now because of my weight ( approx 23st) i do non of it. ive decided not to do the weight watchers or slimming world thing as this just makes me obsess about what i can eat that day. i recently started having a bit bother with my knees and had to have small op on my cartlidge as i tore it. tomorrow i will get on scales before work and post it on here to keep a record. ive also loaded app on my iphone called TargetWeight to keep graph in my pocket.all of the insperational stories on here am sure will help.
cheers johnb.

And just think, one day you could be one of those inspirational stories. :) That's one thing that keeps me going, thinking that I could inspire someone the way that some others have inspired me. Best of luck to you and welcome to the forum. :)

thanks for that , i see youve lost nearly eight and a half stone , well done on that ,i hope to follow with the same sort of loss.
regards johnb.

Hey john!
I'm from Just outside of Durham and just started loosing weight.

Good Luck!

Aww, thanks, but that's in pounds not stone. :D I've been doing this for about 5 weeks, so it would be a bit difficult losing that much weight in that much time. :D I'll have lost that much someday, though. I have no doubt in my mind about it.

hi, i somtimes pop over your way to get my car sorted at green&white in east rainton , usually leave it there and and get bus into durham then train back into tynedale, cheers anyway, hope it all goes to plan.

Hey John. If you have an Iphone i find that Shapeupclub is quite good at tracking calories / weight loss etc. The app is free but you can join if you wish to get more benefits, but its handy without the extra cost.

Hi John and welcome :)

Your story isn't completely dissimilar from my own, my weight has yo-yo’d my entire adult life, but I am determined that I will get to a healthier place and, more importantly, STAY THERE this time :)

I was 23½ stone a couple of months ago – on my way down now though! You are with friends here you will get support and good answers to any questions that you may have. So post away :D

I've live in Texas for 10 yrs but still prefer to use stone.

It's much more satisfying to say I've lost 4 stone than 56lbs. Each stone is a real achievement.

EXACTLY Iain every time someone uses ‘lbs lost’ I have to do a little mental calculation to stones to truly appreciate how hard they have been working. As you say much more satisfying :)

That is of course why I have chosen to record my ticker in kg ;)

(as my gran always used to say – there is no point being awkward and not showing it!)

I guess I'm one of the rare people who was at school (in England) when we were all taught imperial AND metric for most things. My sister is 2 yrs older and was only taught imperial. Moving to the US I've learnt the 'English' system - which is similar to but not the same as our 'imperial' system.
Oh, and I trained as a scientist (metric all the way) but work in the oilfiled (inches/barrels/units).

Whichever way you slice it, you've lost nearly 3 stone and that's a hell of an achievement.

Same here Iain – school in England, the difference being I only moved as far away as Scotland ;)

And thank you for the compliment – yup 3 stone down but PLENTY more to go, not to mention getting fit again :) – you have almost reached your goal, as per your ticker at least well done!

(You are going to tell me now how hard the last stone is to lose aren’t you :( )

I presume –from your name- you were born 1974? That makes you 3 or 4 years younger than me, but I also have the luxury of being taught both metric and imperial, unlike your sister. Funny how some stuff works better in one and some the other :D
