Hello beautiful! My journey to a fabulous new me

I feel pretty

After reading a number of threads posted here, I think I can only conclude that keeping a journal will help keep me on track. I am honestly busy with my graduate work this semester, but I will do my best to keep track of what I'm doing for myself daily so that I am being responsible for my own progress. For my own reflection, I thought I would answer some of these great questions. I think that it will be useful for me to look back on my answers later and see how I have shaped better habits and a better opinion of myself throughout my journey to a new me.

How much weight do you want to lose? I think part of my problem is getting hung up in the numbers, but I think I have about 100 lbs to lose.

What is the timeframe for reaching your target weight? I would love to reach my goal in 18 months (so July 2011) - just in time for my 25th birthday :)

How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)? I would like to try and eat clean and exercise to reach my goal. I don't intend to go crazy with exercise. I want to do some cardio to get in shape, and some weights to tone my sad sad muscles.

Who or what can support you in reaching your goal? My parents are and have always been super supportive in my endeavours to lose my weight. My boyfriend is also helpful and supportive in my quest to achieve my ideal body. Obviously, I know that this community will be an amazing resource and support centre for my weight loss journey.

How realistic is your goal? I think that my goal is very realistic. If I give myself 18 months to lose 100 lbs, I'm looking at an average of 5 lbs a month to reach my goal.

When will you start? Today, of course!

What is your current height and weight? I am 5'4", and I weigh about 250 lbs. I'm making a guess at the moment because I just moved out of my parents' house and I haven't actually purchased a bathroom scale of my own yet. As soon as I get one, I will make any changes necessary.

If you were at an ideal weight now, what would that weight be? Somewhere in the vicinity of 150 lbs. This was the weight that I reached for my high school graduation in 2004, and I looked amazing (if I do say so myself).

At what weight would you like to be four months from now? Four months from now, I would like to be down about 20 lbs, so somewhere roughly around 230 lbs.

Why do you want to lose weight? Because I'm out of shape and tired of looking at myself in the mirror and hating what I see. I want to be able to buy cute clothes and be proud of the way I look and feel.

Why do you think that you now have a weight problem? I've developed some very bad eating habits over the years, and I've never really been a fan of strenuous exercise. I'm also getting older, and I think all of my bad eating habits are catching up to me.

Where do you go for exercise? A local public gym? School/work gym? Home? I prefer to work out at home because it's private and I can get a shower right after. I think a lot of the reason I'd rather stay home is that I am embarrassed to be out in my glory at the gym when everyone else there is more fit than I am.

Hey!

I'm Hana--Just thought I'd welcome you!
I feel the same about gyms. The thought of having to get changed in front of anyone or excercise next to some skinny mini makes me feel a bit ill! I'm trying to work up to it though--When i've lost a bit of weight!

Excercise DVD's are always a good start though!

Anyway, good luck! Hope you reach your goals xx

Welcome to both of you!

I definitely know what you mean about the gym. I did a boxercise class last night, there were maybe 35 people in it and for most of it I was the largest person in the room. The woman larger than me had to leave the class midway (I'm guessing because it was too strenuous). It's not easy but everyone has to start somewhere!

Re: your 25th birthday
It's so so so much easier to get fit and lose weight the younger you are. I'm 41 with two kids and have lost about 60+lbs about 6 times in my life. I'm now the heaviest I've ever been and it's because I gained the weight back because I had no exercise routine to fall back on when I expanded my diet after restricting it to low-fat/Atkins/orwhateverIwastryingatthetime...

So, exercise is something we're going to have to just get used to doing, even when we don't like it or even like me, hate it!!

All the best and I hope you get there. My 25yr highschool reunion is the same timeframe as your 25th birthday and I'd love to be REALLY fit for it. Not just thin, but firm and not giggly! We can all do this! Let's motivate!!

Thank you so much, you guys! I'm already trying to plan which DVD I want to do this morning. I'm a huge fan of Pilates, so I think I'll do that since I actually enjoy it. Thank you for your encouragement, and the best of luck to you as well!

My first week

Well, my first week of trying to turn my life around has been a little stressful. Of course I caught a cold, so I've been drinking insane amounts of tea which didn't help my weight loss. I've been pretty stressed out with school this week as well, so I didn't give myself much of chance to work out. I'm surprised I lost any weight at all. I suppose the important thing is not to go backwards, but to keep plugging on towards my goals.

I'm hoping this week goes much better.

:) Hi there! I'm more of a lurker than a poster, but your starting stats are so close to mine that I couldn't pass up the opportunity to say Hello and ask if you'd like a buddy for your journey! :cheers2: I'm posting from work right now so it's going to be pretty short LOL, but I'll stop by tonight and tell you a little bit more about myself... I'm so tired of trying to do this alone so maybe we can help each other out, one pound at a time! ^.^
