My heart rate is about 182-185 when I run. It feels good to me, but I don't want to drop dead of a heart attack.

What measure can/do I use when working out to know this information?
Yup, you're fine working out at a higher intensity than that.
I'd recommend it actually assuming conditioning is well off enough.
