Healthy Weight

So, not that I had a lot of weight to lose, I was 5 foot 10-1/2 inches, and weighed, about 190ish (give or take a couple of pounds). But, over the last 10 years (I'm 45), didn't really exercise much.

Anyway, some minor pains started happening (at night, trying to get up from the sofa!), and decided at the end of January to join a gym - since I get a discount from my employer.

Well, 6 months later, I've lost almost 30 lbs - I didn't think I needed to lose more than 10!! I only dieted (calorie restriction) for 8 weeks, after that, it was just eating healthy.

Anyway, I seem to keep losing 1-2 lbs per month, and I thought I'd level out. But, this morning I stepped on my scale and it was 159, so, I really don't want to go less. But its not that I'm over-exercising (45-60 min, 4 x a week), or eating less (I eat when I'm hungry, but only healthy food, no crap).

Opinions?

I feel great (and have to say to toot my own horn - look the best I've ever looked in my life).

I do kind of the same thing you do. I just eat healthy and I only exercise 3 times a week about 20-30 minutes a day. I feel my goal weight is where my body decides to stay. I have lost over 50 lbs and now lose around 4 lbs a month. I feel 100% better than I ever have.

I eat around 1800 calories a day and when eating healthy food that is more than enough to keep me full.

Just my thoughts but you said you only eat when you are hungry, well there is times I have to stop what I am doing to eat because I am not really hungry. I try to eat about every 4-5 hours with a couple small snacks thrown in once in a while. I do it this way because it seems to keep me feeling good and I have plenty of energy. So I would say and long as you are getting the right nutrition and eating 3 meals a day, let your body decide where it wants to go. If you want to bulk up later..eat some extra protien and do some strength training to add muscle.

If you are feeling good and happy with your body...enjoy it.
In my opinion you are doing it the right way.

I agree with the above poster. I, for example have a goal of reaching 175 lbs. which would be losing a total of 50 pounds. I choose this goal weight based on a height/weight chart as a average healthy weight for my height. However, BMI's and height/weight charts while sometimes a good guideline, aren't very accurate at all since we all have different bodies. But, if I keep doing what I'm doing and my weight gets lower that's fine. I'll keep losing until my weight plateaus to a point that I am happy with how I feel and look. I wouldn't worry about getting too thin. If anything weight is far easier to gain than to lose.
