Health Care Reform: Changes To Nutritional Information In Restaurants...

You could have told me hey man that burger is 600 calories, I probably would have thought something like "Oh that's ok I'll probably burn it off on my 10 minute walk home".

I think you hot the nail on the head- its not what people are told, its if they understand it and what they do with it.

Also in addition are the variety of portion sizes- this happens alot in sandwich stores where things are made on the premisis. Most restaurants don't weigh everything on the plate before its served, its mostly done by eye. Weighing everything I can see could really affect the service- what do you do if a steak has been prepared and is on the plate....only to find out its 20% more then what is stated on the menu.

I had a friend who would weigh everything before she ate it. Her favorite meal was a microwave meal from her local supermarket which she felt she did not need to weigh as everything was written on the packet. One time she thought she noticed a distinct difference between her serving and her partners serving of the same meal. She went back to the supermarket, bought a few packets and weighed them. One meal was over 50% heavier then the smallest meal! There were differences of anything up to 30% more then the pack stated. This is a supermarket dish.

For that reason I don't think I will be able to trust anything fully unless I have prepared it myself. Let along restaurant dishes!
