Sorry I was MIA this week, finishing up a few major research papers.

At any rate, I want to let you know how proud I really am of you. You're amazing.

I'm still not sure what happened...especially since my weight hasn't changed in oh, let's say three weeks, I guess my body is still changing, you know?
Just goes to show you that there are things more important than the number on the scale... :D

Good job on the 14s :)

(now - dispose of, donate, or have tailored all your too big clothes -NO EXCUSES to ever fit into the larger sizes again :)

Heh... that was the hardest part for me mal... much easier said than done.

Just recently I've given away all of my larger clothes (except for a few 38 slacks that I just found and a few XL shirts for comfy wear). I held onto my big clothes for the better part of a year... inner fear I suppose.

Now I just wish I wasn't the thinnest of my group of friends because I have no one to get clothes from... these guys are making off like bandits with some really nice clothes.

I've given away 1000's of dollars worth of clothes... and to date, the local consignment shops wouldn't take them because they :ahem' just have no interest in plus sizes.. (this was what they told me when i brouht in a bunch of size 14s and 16s - thanks :D

Having stuff tailored isn't expensive to do and is worth it - a person feels better when their clothes fit and whent he clothes fit -they are aware of what they are eating and how their body is reactinf -if you've got too much room in your clothes -then it's too easy to slip into -on these extra helpings won't hurt...

You also just seem too determined to have allowed this to go on that long.

It's funny, I have managed to complete everything in my life that I have set out to do, except lose weight. Looking back, I don't know if I didn't want it enough, or was too scared to really try or what but everyone who knows me could probably list about 10 different attempts I have made to lose weight.

This time started out like any other time and the only reason I don't think anyone thinks I will fail this time is because I have (a) lost more than ever before; (b) actually have moved my lazy ass of the couch and started exercising; and (c) have kept at it for over a year. This time it is different. I am not sure what happened to me to make that happen, but whatever it is, I am grateful for it.

Other than gender, it's scary how we think alike.

Randy - Tell me about it :D I am glad for the company, however.

laureelee07 thanks so much - it has been a long road and I'm not anywhere close to the end, but it has been worth every bit of torture I have experienced getting here (and it hasn't been all bad!)

This really touched me - and I completely understand how you feel, I would (and still do) watch the Biggest Loser and can be moved to tears seeing people have success at something that for so many is so hard...thanks!

Keith - You know how I feel about this...and what it means ~ thanks :)

Mal - All of my old clothes are sitting in a bedroom awaiting on of the three options above...I don't want to spend the money to tailor them more than once so I am waiting to get closer to my goal (whatever that may be, the sky feels like the limit today!) to take care of that.

I'm ashamed that this is my first post in this diary, but congrats on the 14s!

Steve - don't be :D, it isn't exactly Pulitzer Prize-winning material or anything, haha. Thanks for the congrats, I am still temped to not believe it but those tags don't lie...

leanerme - thanks for the support!!

Holy crap guys ~ I wasn't able to check this out all morning due to our server at work crashing (notice I'm not upset about not being able to work, just that I can't post here) and I was just blown away by everyones messages of support ~ seriously, you made my day!!!

And to think, I was just happy Sunday that I found Clementine tangerines!

I can actually 'hear' a renewed spirit in you.
You don't know it, but your original post on this pushed me over the edge with getting out of my funk.

IN all seriousness -don't wait too long...

Tim Gunn says when your clothes fit you - you feel better... when your clothes are too big, you feel frumpier and not as good... you want to look in the mirror and say - damn I look hot! :D

That is so true - I have just been buying cheap new things but there are some things in that pile in the bedroom that I was kinda sore about losing...maybe I will pick some skirts, etc out and see what I can do about them.

Not to mention looking hotter, I look thinner when I wear things that fit :D

I want o bottle this quote and send it to my wife. She insists on wearing clothes too big on her.
It makes her look so much larger than she is. She insists that nothing smaller will fit her.

my guilty pleasure television show is What Not To Wear -and that's the biggest thing that the hosts of the show face -with both women and men alike - people have this mistaken idea that if they wear clothes that are too big they are hiding the flab -when in reality -they're just making themselves look bigger..

I was definately of the school of thought that loose = hidden fat but I am seeing (due to the lack of clothing that fits me) that when I wear things my size you can see how much thinner I am and when I have to resort to my older clothing (size 20 or so) that I look much heavier...I like the thin look, even if it isn't perfect :)

She just will not agree with me- and she watches 'what not to wear' all the time.
She had a large chest and large hips- had them even when she was 170 or so-and thinks nothing will ever fit her.

actually can either of you recommend a store that has good/decent woman's clothes in plus sizes?
We cannot spend a mint but I realy would like her to have somethings that fits her right.

What size is she currently? not that size matters.... (the gospel according to Tim Gunn is that you should always take three sizes into the fitting room with you - the size you think you are, the size smaller, and the size larger -and don't pay attention to the size -go with what looks best... )

and it's really about fitting the body shape...

For any size -avoid pleats at the waist -flat front pants only -pleats make both men and women look pooochy... ALine skirts hitting just below the knee are a good length on most women... (and tim gunn and Stacy and Clinton will say -invest in a tailor... Very few p eople can buy off the rack... )

I'm still a fan of Marshalls/TJMaxx/Filenes Basement/Nordstrom rack -they have fairly decent clothes at good prices... Plus size stores, like the Avenue - tend to go a little too trendy and neglect what actually looks good on a person...

Decent women's clothing in plus sizes??? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm :: taps foot thinking ::

I did most of my shopping at Lane Bryant but they had nothing in the way of suits for the most part, I would piece things together from there. I would get other things from the clearance rack at any of the big deaprtment stores b/c I can't bear paying full freight for anything anymore...

I had (sigh) the large chest thing happening and I am the type that flaunted it so that was probably the on area where I wore things that fit.

Why don't you try taking her out and buying something for her?

Shit, you are asking me size........

I tihnk her tops are a 26/28?? Bottoms she is a 22/24.....??? Tell me if this sounds way off.
She is 5'8 around 240- losing slightly though. We do need to find a tailor but in our little farm town I doubt there is one...

I have tried going shopping with her. I have been told I have a good eye for what looks good, yet still 100% straight, and she listens to me but will not buy. She is very self conscious in anything 'tight' on her. Even if it is not tight.

Oh and Ali- she showed those things off also, that is how I met her. :D.

The sizes sound fine, a little top-heavy to be honest but that may be a function of her discomfort with clothing that fits more than anything else.

If she is resistant, all you can do is encourage her to lose weight and hope that she realizes it on her own.

Just be supportive, she is going to have to do the rest on her own.
