Guideon's diary of change

Hi everyone,

Found myself kind of abusing the Club 200+ thread as a diary, so time to create a diary here.

The essentials:

Male, 37, from the Netherlands.
Gained lots of weight when in college (mostly from alcohol and very poor food choices). Didn't exercise one bit.
Feb 2010 was my watershed moment. Up to that point I was kinda OK with my weight. It wasn't that much, couldn't be more than 100 kg (220 lbs) I kept saying to myself.
Well, that bubble bursted when I stepped on the scale. First of all, I needed a new scale, the one I got only went to 120 kg.
So new scale showed 123 kg (272 lbs), a whopping 23 kg more than I always (foolishly) thought.

During 2010 I lost 30 kg (65 lbs), by cutting calories, eating healthier and working out. I started with P90, then "graduated" to P90M, and also went hiking, together with my parents (which had an added benefit of reconnecting with them again after drifting apart since leaving home for college) and go biking a lot during summer.
2011 and most of 2012 was spent by feeling good, and still exercising, but not as vigorously as before. Gained weight because of it.

Sept 2012 saw a weight of 102 kg (225 lbs) , I was going in the wrong direction again.
So I decided to go at it again.

Picked up P90X and was doing well until the holiday season... Ugh, back to the 100 kg realm (220ies) in no time at all.
No more of that, I'm finished with the triple kilo digits and leaving the 200 lbs club.

Finished my P90X program and immediately started Insanity after that.
Insanity program is also done now and this week I started a P90X - Insanity hybrid program.

Results are awesome since Christmas 2012:
Started at 102 kg (225lbs), today I weighed in at 93 kg (206 lbs).

Ultimate goal is to get to 85 kg (187 lbs), hopefully somewhere before Nov this year, need a beachbody by then, as I'm going to the Caribbean then :)

What I've experienced so far since feb 2010:
lost 30 kg (66 lbs)
gone from waist size 42" to 34"
spent lots of money on replacing my XXL wardrobe with L (some cases even a M!)
Completed a Kennedy March (50 mile march http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kennedy_march)
Feeling much better about myself!

Thanks for reading if you got this far :coolgleamA:

Sounds like you've come a long way already! Congratulations. The Caribbean is a great excuse to get fit! Welcome to WLF!

Hana x

Yeah thoughts of the beach still give me a little scare
I still have quite some bellyfat hanging around, it appears to be the place where the overweight person that used to be me is planning to make it's last stand in this war of weight (and it is a war, I have battlescars to prove it, though some ppl might call those scars stretchmarks).

currahee !!!!!!

Very nice work Guideon! Keep it up. How tall are you? I've got a long way to go to hit your starting weight, but I always like to compare my weight goal with others.

Good job! My highest weight was same as yours & I am shooting for the same goal weight! I still have a long way to go.

Fantastic job & I am pretty sure you would look awesome for the vacation!

Keep up the good work!

1m 73cm (5ft 7inc).
Maybe my goalweight is still a bit high for someone of my length, but compared to where it was it's all good!

Is this supposed to be spring?
Been raining almost all day long, makes me wanna light the fireplace :)

But first, workout. Today P90X legs & back + Ab Ripper X
Then cooking, today I'm trying out a oven-baked Pangasius filet for the first time. Fingers crossed it'll come out good!

Welcome aboard Guideon! Keep up the outstanding work.

Yours is a country I've been meaning to visit. One day I suppose...

Thanks MrVee, you should come visit the Netherlands! And look past the flowers, windmills and coffeeshops when you do ;) Enough to see and do besides that!

My fish in the oven thingy turned out to be great, for sure going in the "healthy recipe book". Real easy to make too.
Just preheat the oven, throw some fish in a baking dish, add leak, union, garlic, diced tomatoes, and some potatoes and top off with some grated cheese, bake until ready. Et voila: a high protein, low caloric meal (if you don't overdo it with the cheese and potatoes).
That was easy, right?

Lesson of the day:
With organized team activities underway in Tennessee, the Titans have welcomed back a leaner, meaner Kendall Wright.

The second-year wide receiver says he's dropped 14 pounds this offseason through one simple trick: Laying off the junk food.

"I'm in the best shape I've ever been," Wright told the team's official site.

"For the most part, it wasn't about the running. I just started taking care of my body and eating right. I wasn't eating right at all. I was eating a lot of junk food because that's what I like and that's what I'd buy, but I cut down on that and just started eating right."

Even highly paid professional atheletes can struggle to make the right choices when it comes to food, so they're kind of human after all.

Welcome to WLF Guideon! I've always loved that name by the way. I heard it on a tv show one day, wish I could remember which one, but ever since then I've really liked it. :)

It sounds like you're well on your way to reaching your goal. One of the reasons I'm losing weight is similar to yours. In March 2014 I'll be going to the Dominican Republic to swim with Humpback Whales. The thought of wearing a wet suit in front of strangers at 250lb wasn't a very pleasant one! I've lost almost 50lb to date and still have almost a year to lose more.

Keep up the good work! :)

Fish in the oven sounds great!! I am a big fan of easy-fast-healthy meals!! I usually make meals under 30 mins. I do almost everything from scratch!

Good work Guideon!

Got up bright and early to get my workout (Insantiy pure cardio) in first thing. Love that in the weekends, kicking the metabolism in high gear early, while still having the whole day.
Hopefully it'll stay dry today and tomorrow, I'd love to go out rinding my bike this weekend, but that is just no fun in the cold rain

@MandyH Good job and awesome you're gonna swim with whales. Think my swimming wil be limited to the the sea and the pool :)

@Justina I find myself doing things from scratch more and more as well. Fresh veggies is so much better than that processed garbage

Going to try the fish thing. Fish isn't necessarily the best here in Arizona though. We have lots of rivers but none of them have any water in them. Care for a swim:

Not sure if the fish I buy from my local supermarket is really from around here as well, but now pretty sure it's not from Arizona (allthough I allreay had a suspicion that it wasn't ;) )

Finally some good wheater. Good enough for a bike ride, on paved, unpaved and sticky mudpaths. Came back all covered in mud, like you should be when riding ATB. It was gorgeous :)

Bike riding in the Netherlands? I've never heard of such a thing. :)

Good job. I have to acquire another bike. Mine was stolen late last year (had a nice chuckle about it on my diary when it happened).

That sucks. I have several bikes, so I don't need to use my Trek to go to work or a night on the town. I would have been stolen for sure allready if I did that. There's some many bicycles in the Netherlands, stealing and fencing bikes is like an industry here.

What baffled me about it was that it was such an old cheap piece of junk (the most they could get for the parts was $50), I can't fathom why someone would want to bother snapping the lock for it.

Lol 50 bucks is 50 bucks :D

day off work today, so time enough to start the day with a workout P90X chest & back, followed by abripper X.
Ab workout was challenging, had to ready get myself to start it, and keep going till the end, but hey only store-bought sixpacks are easy :)
