Grey Ghost Hunter's Diary

Thanks M.

Well where do I start from the weekend. By the time the rain ended on Friday we ended up with 5 inches of rain. Our creek was flooded out of it's banks for about 100yds and ended up flooding over the road infront of my house. That sucked. Luckly by Sat. the water had resided. So it gave me a chance to mow the yard. Talk about a workout. My regular mower died on me so I had to borrow a mower from a friend to mow the yard. Only problem was that the mow only had a 20" deck and was not self-propelled. Now since I live on the side of a hill and have almost an acre to mow it took me 6 1/2 hours to mow. I had my pedometer on, and it said that I walked almost 9 miles to mow the yard. By the time I was done, I WAS DONE. I was so sore I couldn't sleep. Then I spent Sunday on my feet all day at our Archery Clubs 3D shoot cooking burgers and hotdogs. Tell me that wasn't fun. Trying to keep from falling over with my jello legs and at the same time not eating the burgers and dogs.

Anyways I did manage to survive the weekend and when I weighed in this morning after my run. I weighed in at 182. That make my offical weight loss at 30 lbs. WHOO WHOO....

Way to go dude... how exciting!!!

Well its official.

I signed up for the 4 mile race in June, but thats not all. The next weekend is Railroad days here in Galesburg and like an idiot I signed up for the 5k that is ran during it.

So now I have 2 races on back to back weekends. What the hell was I thinking. I guess you can say there is no turning back now.

Since it was/is the holiday weekend I decided to take a abrevated break. So I loosened up my diet for the weekend but along the same lines eat sensable portions. Then there is the beer. Yea I hit it pretty good, drinking at least 6 a night. The ending result? A gain of 1 lb so far. Since today is the actual Memorial Day we are cooking out on the grill, having some Deer Steaks and Roasted Potatoes, and yes more beer.

Even with the weekend, I did keep up with my 5K training. All is going good with that.

Well thats all for now. Have a great Memorial Day, and remember.

WHILE YOU ARE GRILLING OUT TODAY. DON'T FORGET ABOUT WHY WE ARE OBSERVING THIS DAY.

Had to change up the running schedule yesterday due to the rain. So I ran last night. Ran about 2.5 miles total and felt every bit of it from the weekend.

uugh...

Anyways since I ran in the evening I couldn't run this morning either cause it is my long run day and in my mind not enough time between last night and this morning to tackle that. So I'm going to do my long run this evening and hopefully be able to get back on track tomorrow with my short run.

Yesterday I ran my first 25 min. run since the Army. I was actually quite surprised that I made the whole 25 min. without stopping. Haven't done that since the Army. But what was really the surprising part was the distance. After I got home from work tonight I went out and measured the distance. Subtracting the Warm up and Cool down walking distance I ran 2.7 miles in 25 min. Shocked me!!! This pretty much reassured me that I should be able to run the 5K in under the 30 min. (I hope).

Since I ran last night I took the day off today so I could get my running schedule back to running in the mornings. So I'll be back on schedule tomorrow morning and off and running.

TOTAL C25K MILES: 43.55

Not a whole lot of anything to say today. Did go for my run this morning and ran for 25 min. but at a little slower pace. By the time I was done I was about .1 mile shorter than before.

Went out for dinner last night. The wife was craving Mexican. Even thou we were eating at a mexican joint I ate hot wings due to the fact that I didn't think there was anything on the menu that wasn't good for me so I picked what looked to be about the best thing there was for me. Even thou the wings were fried.

starting to feel burnedout

Help!!!! I'm really starting to feet burnedout for some reason. I don't know what do to. Lately I just feel I'm not getting anywhere and have not had much motivation lateley.

I am still getting in my exercising and following my diet it's just that I have to force myself to do it. The scale isn't helping much either. I can't seam to get away from the lower 180's. I keep bouncing around between 181 and 185.

Enough ranting from me. Thanks for listening.

I'm in the same boat GGH! I made a journal post this morning saying the same things. Low 180's is the exact point I quit my diet last time... and I gained everything back - but I refuse to let that happen this time!

If you are burned out, then maybe it is time for a break. That's what I decided to do. I'm not going to go nuts or anything, I'm going to maintain my current weight, eat healthy when I can and exercise when I can. I set a date two weeks from now to 'buckle down' and get back on track with hardcore weight loss. Hopefully, my mind will be ready after a nice 'vacation' from my previous schedule!

Also, I hope to lose several pounds those first two weeks and break out of the 180's for the first time since 2003! We can do it!!! We just need to work on maintaining our current weight and not letting things get out of control.

Hi GreyGhostHunter :)
I've been reading your diary and I'm really impressed by how disciplined you are about your running! :iagree: You sound like you really haven't lost much of the fitness you gained while in the army because not a lot of people I know could just up and run a mile without stopping! You're making fantastic progress!! :cheers2:

Sorry to hear you're a bit out of it from your last post. I've had that happen so many times and usually what I've noticed is a pattern: when I feel burned out and the weight isn't moving, I slump and refuse to do anything and I start to eat more ... and then a day later, like magic, the number on the scales DROPS! I was commenting about this to a friend once and we were comparing it to an automatic car driving uphill; you know, when you're pushing the accelerator but the car doesn't seem to want to speed up and get into a higher gear, and then when you just slightly ease off the pedal, suddenly, WHOOOOOMMMF!!! :auto: it lurches forward into the next gear... I was thinking maybe the human body is the same. It must need a backward step for the next big run-up. :)

I hope your week is going well. Keep at it, you're going places!!

(And I wish I could be a bloke and run in beautiful deserted country lanes like you do!!! I'm reallly jealous!).

Somebody must be listening

Thanks for you responses guys. They were very helpful.

DW - Glad to see you back. I have concidered taking a break but there is only one problem. I have signed up for two different races at the end of this month, so I really can't stop training cause I have to get ready for the races. The first is on the 20th (4 mile), the second on the 27th (5K). We'll have to see what happens once I get done with the races.

Splints - Awsome analogy about driving up a hill in a car. Never thought of it that way. Thanks for the words of confidence.

Anyways, as I was running this morning I think I may have witnessed a sign from God. I had my headphones on listening to the podcast as I was running, and I keeped hearing a squeak, about that time I caught some movement. So I looked up and there flying about 5 feet above my head was a Red Winged Blackbird. This bird litterly kept pace with me for about 100yds., and stayed right above me just a chirpping away.

Now I know I was probably to close to her nest for her comfort, but I would like to believe that it was a sign for me to keep going and to keep pushing after the last few days that I have had.

Who knows, either way it made me feel a little bit better about myself and gave me that much more of a push to keep going. Werd how the smallest things make such a big impact.

Hey there! hmm... burnout sucks! um, well one thing i would do is get some measurements!!!! I know that whenever i am not seeing results on my scale, alot of times its because my body is busy reducing inches somewhere... and the pounds just arent falling off like id like. Those changes in measurements are what keep me going many times when i feel like im not getting anywhere fast!

Also, switch up your work out music! If you normally listen to rock, get some hiphop or techno on that ipod! I know sometimes when i am in a rut and not feeling it in my workout like i use to... i change up the music... you gotta confuse yourself sometimes hehe. Alot of times it lightens my step and makes me want to boogie on that treadmill like nobodies business!!! hehehe
:iagree:

Keep it up... burnout happens... just spice your diet up a bit with some new yummies... maybe go on a hike one day instead of your normal routine..... alot of times changing up the exercises keeps you entertained and speeds up that weightloss again.

arent out bodies silly?

Your doing great! Cant quit now :) :hurray:

:waving:

Hey there M. Thanks for the comments.

I do take measurements every week and I have been seeing the changes.

As for the music, I am currently running with the C25K program and it plays it's own music during the podcast. But once I'm thru them I'll definetly going to be changing it up on the music.

Another week gone and I'm still sitting in the 180's. 181 to be exact again for the second week.

Probably didn't help that the wife brought home steak for dinner Friday night, then Ribs on Sunday. I tried to keep my self control and portion size in check, and I thought I did. I don't know. Maybe I'm just to week.

Started week 9 of the C25K this morning. Felt like I was running forever. I thought it wasn't going to end. By the time I was done, I realized that not only did I make the whole 30 min. I ran well over 5K. I don't know exactly how far until I head off to work when I can measure it out with the car.

So my C25K miles will reflect everything except for this morning until I get to work.

Ok, I measured the distance I ran this morning. to my amazement I ran just over 3.25 miles. Couldn't believe I did it. All I can say is bring on the 5K on the 27th.

Oh wait a minute. (crap) I still have to run the 4 mile race on the 20th. Oh well, Bring it on anyways.

Got up this morning and decided not to run cause my legs were pretty sore from yesterday.

It is now 3 hrs later, I'm sitting here at work and feel like I cheated on my wife.

I should of went running.:banghead:

Was up and running bright and early this morning with no questions. Not running yesterday just all out made me feel like I was cheating.

Plus, it didn't help that my niece is staying with us for the next week. The bad part of this you ask? Well let me tell you about it. Every once in a while we will strike up a fire and roast marshmellows (which I hate) and cook campfire pies. My niece has never tried a campfire pie so needless to say we stoked up a fire and made pies last night. I had two...:( Man I love them so....

you can have campfire pies every now and then!!!! its good to have treats!!!!

think of it as your reward!!! Dont worry you are doing great! Keep up the good work and dont beat urself up over a few whoopie pies!!! :)

besides... they sure are delish arent they!!?!?!?! hehe:biggrinjester:

Hey M, yea I know I can have the campfire pies. It's just what I put in it is the problem. My two had leftover BBQ Pork Rib, mushrooms and Cheese.:drool5:

Anywho, I didn't get to run this morning cause of a little thing called a thunderstorm. So I waited until I got off of work to run. This had to be the weirdest run I've ever had. When I started out I felt like I was real bouncey. Once I got to the half mile mark I started to feel heavy all of a sudden. Then for the majority of the run I felt slow until the last 1/4 mile I felt really fast. Told you it was a weird run. In the end I ran 30:05 sec. for a distance of 3.4 miles. This was also the competition of the C25K program. I can't believe I did it.

Now for the hard part. I have 1 week to get ready for the 4 mile race. It should be to much of a problem considering that I just ran 3.4 in just over 30 min.

My goal it to (well finish the damn thing without stopping) finish under 45 min.
