Good eats... at least, they once were.

Is it just me?

I'm actually finding it kind of difficult to rack up even the minimum calories for the day. I constantly end up at 1050 calories, but even that's after dinner. I just don't get it. I mean, I'm not starving myself, I have what I want, I just eat less of it. I don't go to bed hungry or anything. I don't have an eating disorder. Why am I finding it so hard to meet the minimum? I don't feel like I'm missing out on eating... I just don't understand. I don't have anything against food in general...

Does anyone have any suggestions to help me beef up my calorie count in a healthy way?

God this is just so weird.
I feel like an alien.

I'm sure someone will disagree with me, but as long as you're eating healthy food to satisfaction and losing at a reasonable rate, I wouldn't worry about it. While I wouldn't encourage you to intentionally aim for a very low caloric intake, there's enough measurement error in that kind of thing that I'd go by rate of loss more than by calorie count. If you find yourself losing too fast (an average of 1% a week is fine; don't consider any very fast initial loss) by all means, increase your calories. But I suspect your intake is fine.

When I log in my calories for the day I usually add about 150-200 to that number because it's very common to underestimate your intake. I was eating about 900 calories every day which is wayy too low.. So now I eat every 2.5 hours and I've added trail mix as a snack and carrots with light dip. Thats added an additional 300-400 calories to my diet and now i find that I'm hungry more!!!

Hehe, it's sad but true, the grazing (small meals throughout the day) thing makes me more hungry too... but then I think, hey it's ok... I'm hungry coz the food I ate just now has digested :)

oh, okay. It's kind of hard to eat well on days like today, I was dizzy and nauseous all day. I couldn't even get on the treadmill :(

I'm not necessarily sure I WANT to be hungry more. That was my problem before, when I'm hungry I eat more than I need to. I try to stay full now, and I haven't really had much problem with that, I just have to eat more because I've only eaten like less than 400 calories today so far. I guess I'll pig out on dinner... We're having meatloaf and baked potatoes and I'm gonna throw in some green beans or something.

I'm thinking about having an apple, but all we have is granny smith. OH! I cut up an apple last night and opened some vanilla yogurt, but I couldn't eat it because all of the sudden I felt really sick to my stomach. I even had to sleep on the floor in my room because I have a loft bed and I didn't want to have to climb down the ladder quickly if I needed to throw up (sorry for the graphic language... I don't know how else to say it.)

But I'm feeling better now, kind of dizzy still, little scared of getting on the treadmill with a balance problem.

Anyway...

Thanks guys :)

I would def agree that this is a good idea! I always a dd a few hundred cos i know that i am far too lazy to actuallywork everything out exactly!

Well done on the 11lbs so far:D:D:D You are doing great and im sure you will reach your goals!

Minor setback, but I'm not going to get discouraged. I think it's water weight anyway. But I DO need to get back on the treadmill... I didn't do it yesterday and I don't have enough time today, I know, bad excuse. But my sister picked me up today to take me out and pick up a magazine and stuff, (stuff=drive through McDonalds <small fry and a fruit and yogurt parfait> ) I also had like, 2 teaspoons of egg drop soup and 1 and a half cups of rice. Earlier I had a frozen meal from lean cuisine, shrimp and angel hair pasta with peppers and carrots. I also had a bowl of white rice (yes another :p) with some fat free margarine spread.

Gah.

Today has been terrible. (food wise) but I have this party tonight (its the kind where they try to sell you stuff, in this case, candles. <OH MY GOD I LOVE CANDLES!!! I don't ever burn them though, I'm kind of paranoid of fire by my bed and noone wants me to burn my smelly candles downstairs. :( >)

I just got one of those STUPID calls on my cell about some second notice that the factory warranty of my car is going to expire. Here's the thing... I don't have a CAR!:cuss:It's just so much BS :icon_bs:.. Makes me want to scream!

Jeezzzzzzzzzzzeeeee!!!
Oi... That just got me completely side-tracked. What was I talking about?

Yeah, so I'm back up from 221.5 to 223, but it's probably due to factors beyond my control.... or maybe I would just like to think that? Gah... whatever, I need to exercise more. :p

hrm
Well, I guess that's it,
:)
Meh, it could be worse... right?
haha...
<3

Hey guys, have you ever had a luna bar? I just had half of a chocolate peppermint bark luna bar. It was REALLY good.

My parents both gagged... I loved it... I was wondering if any of you had had that flavor? I need to know that I have some taste, any taste at all... Did you know it has 100% of your B12 for the day? Wow.

I have to go... Bed time!

Bye guys!

<3 That's a sideways heart. :)

Hey! I'm back down to 222.1!

So far today I've had a peanut butter cookie luna bar and a 100 calorie english muffin with 2.5 tbsp peanut butter... I've got to get up the motivation to get on the treadmill... I fell off the exercise bandwagon for the past couple of days and I really want to start back up.

*sigh*

Talk to you guys later!

Goodness, They truly are. Sometimes there's a bit of a... "healthy tasting" aftertaste... haha... But if you don't taste aftertastes in diet drinks and sugarfree stuff, you'll be fine.

Hahaha... Man. I talked my dad into McDonalds for dinner. I had one of those southern style chicken sanwiches (they were doing some sort of deal where if you buy a large tea or a medium drink you get one for free, so I got a large unsweetened tea. ) I had a medium fry because I had only eaten like 500 calories at that point, and I felt like indulging. 400 calories for the sandwich, 380 for the fries!! Jeeze, the side was almost more calories than the sandwich! Haha... But I am now at 1284 calories. I think I'm aching for some fruit after eating in that grease trap, but first I'm going to walk on the treadmill. I didn't do it earlier because I forgot that I had to vacuum the living room before my mom got home. :p

:D That's my day so far!
I know it wasn't the best day, nutrition wise, but at least I didn't go crazy or anything.
:)

ARGH!

222.9 pounds at weigh in this morning. I think I need to step it up food wise, because I believe I may have reached a plateau. I think mcDonalds last night may have been a bad idea.

It's kind of frustrating that even though I had a relatively low calorie intake yesterday, I gained almost a pound. Grr...

Any tips on breaking a plateau (if that's what this is)?

Gah... I'm just so irritated. I guess, looking back, I've eaten low calorie, but not necessarily healthy. :p

Any tips on eating healthy when you don't like health food?

%$@! I did it again. Chick-fil-a 12 pack and medium fries for dinner, my calories were still a little low so I had a few bites of cherry-lemon sorbet and a bowl of chips. I didn't go way over or anything, but I was going to try to eat healthy. Now I don't really feel like eating anything, and I have the undeniable knowledge that I tried, but not really, and failed. I didn't even get on the treadmill today, I realized too late that my mom was coming home in like 5 minutes so I ran upstairs to get my shower and then I just didn't get back on.

Ergh. That's a piss off.

:p Whatever. What should my calorie intake be?
I try to stay around 1200, but I've been reading more and I'm not sure that that's the best idea.

OH OH OH OH OH!!! My mom said when I lose a total of 20 pounds, we'll go shopping for a new shirt! Yay!!

Thanks for listening to my whining you guys! I really appreciate it.
:)

Hectic couple of days. Yesterday my parents and I went to lunch with my granddad for fathers day, then we went to a Gordon Lightfoot concert at wolftrap. We ate out 2 times that day. :piggy:
Today I had 2 delicious donuts, a chocolate glazed, and a white frosted, for breakfast. (Naughty I know) Then my parents and I hiked a little ways to Bear's Den overlook (lots of hills, blek) and then we went to the grocery store. We went home, and gave my dad lots and lots of presents, centered around the new charcoal grill my mom got for my dad. I got him some accessories, and my sister took credit for a couple things and got him some marinade. Then we had chicken thighs for dinner, but I had a couple 98%fat free turkey dogs (oh they were scrumptious!) and some cheesy broccoli and cauliflower and a quater cup of corn.
Yeah.
So that was today.

I think I've hit a plateau, can someone help? more fruits and veggies? less fat?
Gah. Now this is becoming an actual effort. :ack2:

Byes!:waving::grouphug:

I could be wrong here but I think I know why you've hit a 'plateau'. The fact is, you've definately not plateaued, and I think you probably know that. If you look back on your past diary entries, you will see that you have had McDonalds twice in the past week, chick-fil-a, you ate out twice yesterday and had 2 donuts for breakfast.

You cannot lost weight by working out and not changing your eating habits. You have already talked about stepping up your diet. So do just that. Instead of 2 donuts, have one donut and a piece of fruit, or some cereal instead of any donuts. You need to really stop eating all the bad food that sucks you in. I know it's hard, but in the beginning of your diary you where eating fairly well AND YOU LOST SOME WEIGHT!! Just go back to making healthy choices. No more McD's or donuts for breakfast.

That's my advice.

gah... You're right.
*sigh*
I guess I've slipped back in to my old habits.
Damn.

Okay, well, thanks. I appreciate it.

Hi lily, I joined yesterday, so am still finding my way around the site. Good to see you loosing some weight. I see that you are looking for ways to increase your intake of fruit and veg. Have you thought about making some soup. It's a great way of increasing your veg intake and if you don't add any cream or butter it is low calorie too. I see that you are trying to eat more healthy foods, and that your mom and dad are supporting you in this. Perhaps you could cook the family evening meal one night a week, and if you follow the advice and try some of the dishes on the web site you could learn a bit more about how to eat healthily. I notice you only exercise on the treadmill, and are sometimes reluctant to use it. Maybe you need to try other types of exercise, or if there is a ark near you, how about going for a walk outside, and save the treadmill for rainy days. Is there a club near you that you could join, something like and art club, or anything else that you are interested in, Its a great way of getting out and meeting new people, and it takes your mind of the diet. Perhaps you could take up a new hobby, like sewing clothes or knitting, a great way of keeping the hands out of the cookie jar. I knit socks, you get some really funky wool nowadays and they make great presents for friends and family for birthdays and Christmas. Well good luck with the weigh loss, keep up the good work.

I try to stay around 1200, but I've been reading more and I'm not sure that that's the best idea.

That sounds WAAAAY too low for your age and weight.

A good way to work out how many calories you need is to work out your BMR (use a calculator on google, punch in your details) then using the Harris Benedict Formula times that number by 1.2. That should give you basically how many calories to consume per day to maintain your weight. Of course this is just an estimate but its a good guide.

Then, with this number, subtract 15-20%. That should be a good starting point, you have reduced your calories too low to 1200 and you will plateau very early. You need to reduce them slowly to lose more weight.

Combining the 15-20% decrease with around 30 minutes of exercise should get you at around 2lbs fat loss per week.

Is this calorie calculator accurate? It seems like an awful lot of work when I can't find a calculator that works properly.
According to this though, 1872.57 cal should be my calorie intake. Wow.
Is it okay if I weigh in every day, or should I make it a once-a-week thing? I've seen the "weigh every day club" around here, and I think it might kill me to not know if I'm doing okay or not. I think I might forget the day I'm supposed to weigh in, and then get all discombobulated.
Then again, maybe it would be better to see my progress on a larger, weekly scale (no pun intended)
So while I haven't been depriving myself, I haven't indulged, but now I can eat like, 600 more calories.
And I think one of the reasons I've found the treadmill so daunting is because I've been using it at least an hour at a time. I think if I decreased this, I wouldn't find it so hard.
Thank you so much for all of your help!!

Yeah, that would be possible, and I think it would really help my mom out too. I don't have my driver's license yet, so I find it kind of hard to go anywhere to work out. I need to get out my mom's sewing machine, I got some really awesome fabric and I want to make some pillows. I used to knit but I got pretty bored with it, so then I moved on to latch hooking ( I got this amazing latch hook kit from my grandmom a couple years ago and I'm not even half way done yet) and now I'm kind of just doing nothing. I got my ged a while ago and my ceremony's this wednesday. I took a college course last semester (and I got a 4.0 Gpa!)
But yeah, I'm going to try to make an effort to eat healthier.
And I guess I'll have to up those calories too.

Thanks for your input guys!

Can anyone give me some info my parents can read to let them know what my calorie intake should be and why? They seem to think that to be on a diet, you have to eat 1300 calories a day, and if you want it to be faster it should be 1200.

They can be so frustrating sometimes.
