getting started properly

Hey I'm new to the whole thing but I think it may be what I need to actually motivate me to work out more...

I'm about 6'1" and 165 lbs. I've played sports all my life until recently and haven't been working out since. While playing sports I worked out on and off due to the fact that I never saw a result...

I eat all the time but with my old exercise schedule and fast metabolism I was never able to gain weight in the form of more noticeable muscle mass...

My main goal isn't to get huge, but just become more tone while increasing muscle mass.

Any advice for getting started regarding diet, workouts, etc?

P.S. I have a buddy that said I could workout with him and use his NoXplode supplement. Is that stuff reliable?

Thanks for any info

I am in a very similar situation to you. I too am 6'1" and weigh 166. My goal is also toning as opposed to bulking. Last week I bought NO Xplode and am happy with the product. After taking NO Xplode I am able to run faster and further as well as do more reps. While it will make you "bigger" only temporarily (by dialating blood vessels with more O2) it has alllowed me to work out harder.

I try to do cardio (running or swimming) every morning as well as doing an Upper, Lower, or Ab workout in the afternoon. While this may seem very time consuming I manage my time efficiently. Since we have similar body types/goals as well as athletic experience maybe some of the stuff that helps me will really help you.

Cardio: I make to stretch, but I really push myself. I swam all through HS and 1 yr for a D1 college team, but I'll address running. I'm not a natural runner, so my best mile time is 5:15. I'll go to a track, stretch, run a 1/4 mile warmup, and run 3 miles at 5:55, 6:00, and 6:05. That's a good workout and it's fast.

Gym: When I go to the gym, I take NO explode 1/2 an hr before. I don't go during peak hours so I won't be interrupted by friends or have to wait. I usually go the last two hours before closing.

Diet: I have never been fat--my fitness goal this summer is to lose five pounds of fat and add five pounds of muscle. I eat a lot of bananas, apples, whole grain bread, tuna, tomatoes, drink 1-2 protein shakes w/ water. I don't eat fast foods, skip cheese---it's pretty easy and it's working.

Twilburn if your new to the gym this link below may help you understand the differant types of gym exercises aswell as what muscles they work. I have no idea what your nutrition is like but I advise going to the nutrition forum and have a look at the stickys to see if your on the right track and what types of food you need to be eating.

Really? How so? because the majority of what I've heard has been only good things about what it offers and the results people walk away with.

I read the thread here on NO Explode and while I have only limited experience w/ it, I like it.

Does it really matter if the product actually helps you lift longer and more or if it is only a placebo effect? Yeah, in some ways it would suck if I ended up dropping 73 bucks on a product that doesn't help me. However, whether the actual chemicals help me or whether I'm just more motivated/pumped after taking it doesn't matter to me as long as I can acheive my goal.

Aren't most supplements over-hyped anyways?

yes a vast majority of suppliments are way over hyped. iv seen whey protein labels claiming to totaly change your body in just 8 weeks.

no xplode is one of those over hyped things. it has a lot of stuff you dont want. heres a diff thread about no xplode which shows why you dont want it
http://training.fitness.com/supplements-vitamins/bsn-no-xplode-24558.html

It has 2000MG of SYNTHETIC b12(Cyanocobalamin). That is reason enough to leave it alone.
Aswell the Phosphorus is of a concern.
here is SMALL ( i know, redundant to CAP the word Small) list of reasons not to ingest this over hyped and totally worthless product. In bold are the reasons

Maltodextrin, Citric Acid, Sodium Bicarbonate, Lemon Juice Powder, Malic Acid, Potassium Citrate, Natural and Artificial Flavors, Aspartame, Acesulfame Potassium, FD&C Red 40, FD&C Blue 1.

thankyou, silent

NO Explode is a waste of money to some, and an investment to others. If it gets you pumped thats great, and you got the cash too blow, again great. All that aside NO contains chemicals that you should not ingest.

The newer NO does not contain aspartame, so I guess they have improved some. But in the thread Proteinboy posted, silent lists all the chemicals you should stay away from that are in NO.

Ya I took it for the first time today and whether it was me merely thinking it helped or if it really did begin working, I felt great working out with it in my system. I felt more able to continue pushing the reps and I had the drive to work out longer.

Again, I can't say whether or not it worked chemically, but it was enough to help (in my mind)
