Getting started, help me out!

I just signed up for gym today, and I plan to start going ASAP. However I need a little newbie help starting out :D First of all I am 19 around 6'6 weighting 272lb (weighted today). There is quite a lot of fat around my body, my main goal right now is to drop it as fast as possible. I am already taking steps like cutting down my food, no more pop, barely any candy, and eating a lot less (not to the point that I starve but walk on a half empty stomach). Please post your suggestions.

Thank you!

EDIT: By weights we mean actual weights, like bench press not machines right?

If my main goal right now is to drop some pounds is it alright to walk/run 20-30min. and then go machine and weights for other 30?

Well men in general lose weight a heck of a lot easier than women. And you could train using free-weights or machine weights. The key is the amount of weight and number of reps you do. If you want to lose weight, i.e., drop from your 272 lbs., then you don't have to lift a lot of weight, just get to a comfortable amount and do lots of reps. Also, train on a tread mill, elliptical machine which will help burn more calories.

I plan to go to gym on everyday basis. However I hear it's not recommended, is that true? I was thinking of doing cardio 7 days a week and machines/weights 3-4 days a week, what do you think about that? Also should I be hitting different muscle groups everyday, does it matter which?
