Getting into it

I have not weight trained seriously before but i feel its time as well, im a fat mess ;). Its not all that bad but i was looking for a little help on how to get started. I play hockey so im in *decent* shape but im gettin a little chubby.

17yo:5'11:185 pounds:17%BF.

Now I know this is probably the general consensus but i want to lose fat and gain muscle, so should i start off with low reps/high weights or high reps/low weight or concentrate on lowering my BF% percent before even attempting to bulk up?
 
When you first start, it is possible to loose fat and gain muscle at the same time.. one of the advantages of being a beginner. But when it really comes down, you have to choose, bulk first and then cut, or cut first, then bulk.
Do you only care about size, or do you want some strenght too?
 
Yeha, choose to either bulk up or cut down, its really a pain in the butt to try to do both at once, a really slow process. Your diet will play a huge role as well, make sure that it is in check first off.

is it wise for me to bulk right now though as im already a pretty big guy...however unlike most guys my fat doesnt go to my gut...it goes right to my ass and thighs =p lol
 
It's really up to you and how you want to look, if it is easier for your diet, etc. Just choose one and stick with it until you want to switch it up.
