Getting fit?

Can someone help me out?

Im not sure what the fastest way is to get fit. By fit i mean to be able to run for longer and faster, to be able to cycle at a faster speed and for longer distances without getting tired or to play sports like football and not gt tired while running.
That is fitness right? When you have longer endurance and to do things "better".

So whats the best way? Like cycling for instance, the best way to get stronger legs isnt to cycle but to do exercises with weights to gain muscle, like squats or lunges. Cycling itself is just for cardio, it doesnt really make your legs stronger.
So i take it its the same with running, running doesnt make you fitter but leg exercises will make your legs stronger so you can go faster and for longer right?
So am i right in saying that weight lifting gets you fitter the quickest way?

I want to be able to run faster and longer, atm my heart rate increases dramatically when i run for about 30 seconds and especially if its cold my lungs start to hurt. I remember once ages ago i outran myself way over my limit and i coughed blood, why did that happen?
I know that you should go at your own pace but if i can only run for about 3 minutes before im too tired that will take forever for me to get fitter.

Any advice? Its just that im losing weight yea but i think i will hit a plateau and im annoyed because im not that much fitter than i was before i started dieting, am i doing something wrong?

Please reply.

I would recomend not pushing yourself past your limit. But cardio work out like cycling will actually make you be able to run longer and faster. Weight training although bulks your musle up and is important to any work does nothing for your endurance.

I would start out slowly like 15 minutes and a stationary bike or treadmill then after a few days increase to 20 minutes and so on. After a month you will be able to go for a much longer period.

Coughing up blood is not good and I would seek a doctor's opinion on that.

Good luck. Remember to start out slowly you will have better results in the end.:D

If you google on "from couch to 5K" (use the quotes) you'll find a site that will have you from sitting your butt on thec ouch with the remote control in hand, to running a 5 k in 3 months.. (it's a pretty good training program... that you could adapt to where ever you currently are in fitness)

Awesome cheers. Just printing the plan off lol. I think im set for a while now, ive got a good weight lifting plan and now a good fitness regime. Im determined with this because i fear a plateau. So anyway its Monday today and im doing my first day of my weight program. Tomorrow i'll do the first day of the fitness plan and the day after ill do day 2 of the weights etc...
Good plan eh? Lol

Man i just tried exercise one on week one of that fitness plan just to see what it was like. I could do it for about 8 minutes before i got too tired and needed more than 90 seconds to get my breath back. What shall i do if i cant even do the first exercise?

Go at a pace that you can comfortably work at... just don't give up... it may take a little longer to get out of the first week but keep trying...

You went 8 minutes the first time, maybe stick with 8 minutes for a few days, then work up to 10 minutes... then 12 minutes... gradually increase the time

Ok ill try that.

just a side note: have you ever been tested for asthma -- I'm no expert but it seems that more than 90 seconds to recover from some exercise (depending how intensely you were going) seems like a lot...

next time you go in for a check up - if it keeps up.. you might want to mention it to your doctor, or even to your mom if it keeps happening.. asthma, especially exercised induded asthma is pretty easily treatable.
