Hello! Quite new here! Thank you guys for including me.

So I'm on my nth try towards weight loss effort, and figured something's got to change. I can't try again and expect a different result. I've heard a lot about accountability, and I'm thinking that's where I'd like to change my approach. Hopefully this diary can help!

I've never joined a community like this before now. I've actually never really joined any kind of online community before now, so please forgive me if I'm not so aware of the right 'internet etiquette' or posting norms!

Like I mentioned, I've tried many times to lose weight, and at the start of each try for a while I will. I feel, though, that if my main focus day in and day out is not weight loss, I end up going back to my old, unhealthy weight. While the extra weight itself is a bummer, what really gets me down at the end of each try is all the time I've lost focusing on weight loss. With so much time spent trying, I could have gone and learned Italian. And German. And probably Portuguese... Weight loss isn't cumulative, and that's what scares the heck out of me.

For a long period, I've settled with maintaining my unhealthy weight where it is, focusing on other things. Recently, I've lost control and gained more than I've ever had. My weight has been creeping into other parts of my life to mess up my mood, which is really makes me less active and takes a toll on my motivation towards other goals in my life. While I'm really scared to start trying again, I think this time around if I can focus on changing my lifestyle, at least I'll learn what ways to lose/maintain weight work best for me. That would be something I'd love to learn!

Anyway, so glad that there are groups like these out there! Thanks again, guys!

First post in my diary, then! I went to the gym this morning. It's been so many months since I went... My goal was to complete the set I used to complete when I was losing weight. This doesn't really sound like a change in approach, which is my overall goal, but I'm not quite sure what to change just yet to make a difference in my lifestyle. I figure if I begin with what I know works, I can at least get started.

Anyway, the set took so long!!! I kept having to stop midway, but at least it's finished. Hope to go again tomorrow evening, too!

Hi Furby! (I never liked Barbies much so if you don´t mind I´ll stick with that)

Welcome to the forum and good luck on your journey. Don´t mind about netiquette too much here, just be kind and don´t try to sell us anything :) Good job starting with the exercise, may I ask you what you do (strength, endurance, classes?) and what your basic data are (height, weight, goals)?
Looking forward to reading more here!

Welcome Furb. To change your lifestyle you need to find an activity that you really love and enjoy. It took me a long, long time to find my activity. I started biking and can't get enough. It will be a big part of the rest of my life. As for diet, I use a free app called Lose It. There's lots of tracking apps out there but they are easy to use and help you be aware of what you are eating and what foods are beneficial.

I'm stalking through some diaries and came across yours, so I thought I'd pop in and see how you were doing. Seems like you're doing pretty good. Starting a diary was a great beginning and I hope that we, as a community, can help you get to an even better ending.

I've never joined a community like this before now. I've actually never really joined any kind of online community before now, so please forgive me if I'm not so aware of the right 'internet etiquette' or posting norms!

Ok, since I'm an old-timer on forums, I'll give you some very simple rules to follow when it comes to "Internet Etiquette."

Rule #1 - Always be yourself. Don't try and fake your way through posts. Just be open and honest, and stay true to yourself. You want people to like YOU, not who they THINK you are.

Rule #2 - Don't use ALL CAPS. It's just annoying and most people skip by everything people say if it's in all caps.

Rule #3 - If you ever find yourself in the middle of an Internet fight, post pictures of Cats in Hats. The fighting will stop. It works. Every. Single. Time.
