Funny-Looking Abs

I'm worried...

I used to weigh 263 pounds and jiggled everywhere. One day someone called me fat and it hurt bad. So I started working out and eating right.

I'm now at 228. I have muscles and I'm proud of what I see in the mirror...except...

My abs don't look like other abs that I see in the magazines that I started buying. Other abs run straight out from the center. Mine are slanted downward and looked stretched. I'm 6 ft 1 inch, so these abs are making me look taller (which I didn't want). It seems like my abs are following the slant of my ribcage.

Is this normal in the beginning? Is there something that I can do to make them run straight across instead of slanted downward?

I had surgery when I was 18 and always wondered why the doctor cut me at a downward slant across my stomach. I've never had abs before...but now that I do I can see why he cut there - because it's right in between the abs.

Looking at ur weight and height, it doesn't seem right, you still seem too overweight to be able to see abdominals. Maybe thats why they dont look right? because theres still layers of fat piling over them, not enough to completely hide them but maybe enough so you can just about see the outline/frame of the abs of which ur fat covers.

do you do wieghted sit-ups???
when you add resistance to your sit-ups the abdominals become more blockish looking.
try that out with alot of cardio.

I have a big build, broad chest. I was always told that I'm big boned (nice way of telling me I was fat).

There are definitely abs showing through, and they are slanted.

When I first started working out, I couldn't do one situp. I think most of my weight was in the top portion of my body. I had man boobs. Every day, I kept it up...one situp a day until I could do three, four, and then so on. My abs were the first things to show through, besides my biceps. I figured it was because I was overweight and doing crunches I had to lift all of that weight.

Whatever...it's nice to have abs now instead of a huge roll.

Thanks for your help.

it's prolly just genetics. Not all abs look the same. I wouldn't sweat it, just keep up with the cardio and clean eatin'

A lot of the time, in those muscle magazines, those guys are covered in so much oil and crap their abs look unusually perfect. From all the abs I've seen in my life, rarely have they been close to perfect.

Most girls (and people in general) see abs and know no better. An abdominal is an abdominal.

.....although I'm sure there are ways to fix it.

Why wouldn't you want to look taller? 6'1 is tall but I've seen taller...it'll give you a leaner look...I'd just keep up what your doing and lose the weight you need to lose...your doing good so far...
