Forum Reviews

Good Evening Everyone...

My partner and I are thinking about adding a Forum to our site similar to this one. We are looking for advice to make our forum fun, informative and educational, and different than all the other sites out there, not to mention a NAME for it.

I have visited a lot of forums in the past and sometimes wonder what really gets people to visit and post. I was very excited when I came upon this forum board due to the endless advice I have received and the friendly environment, not to mention the huge amount of content.

Please help us out by letting us know what you look for in a forum, what you like and dislike, what is it that you would want to see? Also please help us come up with a name!! We want to set ourselves apart from the typical forum board. We may even offer a prize for the best name submitted.

Thanks for your help and input.

Ed

EDIT**mreik** Asking for people's opinion about starting a new forum is fine, although a link to it isn't.

The link was to our site, to get a feel for what we are about and for naming reasons, I thought it a good idea for people to see the site.

Sorry if this was not acceptable.

Activity is an ovious one.

I gather this forum runs in tandem with some fitness magazine publicisied Stateside??

Regardless, if you type Fitness Forum into Google, this is the result numero uno. That helps. A lot.

To get a forum up and running, you will need to give people a good reason to visit. Secondly - the hard, tedious part - is you will have to trudge other boards and sites and peddle yours.

As for posts in the forum, you can keep them fairly well in check. I moderate on a busy gaming website. There's a lot of kids that come by who like to flex, posteur and measure e-dicks, a lot of spam and the like. However this is offset by a large group of moderators and admins to keep it in check. Generally if someone is disrupting a forum and/or breaking site rules, just can their ass.

One piece of advice though, skip username bans and go straight for IP bans

Good luck, plenty of people have put lots of time and energy into sites and forums that haven't flown, and some have been lucky enough to end up with a rather vibrant online community.

Fly,

Thanks a lot for your advice. Our forum is just in the concept phase right now. The forum would be part of an online nutritional supplement and vitamin store. Our main focus is on educating the customer so they can make smart decisions in regards to achieving their health/fitness goals.

We have looked at many competitors forums that get millions of visitors a day, and really do not see anything special about them. We want to set ourselves apart and do something different that will really appeal to the public. This is why we are asking for opinions from people who already spend a lot of time in forums like this one. What is it that keeps people coming back for more.

Also thanks for a look into the life of someone who is already doing this type of work.

Sincerely,

Ed
