Flyer's diary

you know the saying... it's a bird eat bird world out there.

i seem to have settled into the mid 160's. have to see if this lasts. on the upside, i tried on a pair of ancient Calvin Klein jeans i still had from HS and though they were rather tight, i got them buttoned. jean sizing seems to have changed over the years. the 36" jeans i have which are more recent measure out to about 37" but the KC jeans (marked 34 x 34) measure out to a 33" waist. granted they have probably been washed over 100 times, but there is no doubt in my mind that the fashion industry is trying to make being overweight less of a concern through relaxed measurements.

Definitely. Plus - at least in women's clothes - the cheaper the brand the more "relaxed" the cut.

cleaning up from 3 days of rain... some final (maybe) peppers of 2019....

on a bed of rosemary ... like Klinger would say... "good for the 'ol factory"... :)

i've been buying some clothes for my 80 year old aunt i help out so i've been finding out how crazy women's sizing is.

i'm hoping i can lose just another ½" off my waist (room for improvement still there).
right now the best fitting jeans i have now are both button fly... :(

I am pretty sure that's true. Most of us would like to think we could wear a smaller size, so when we find one that fits we are more likely to buy it. I just found some size 38 jeans I could fit into, and I am pretty sure my waist is not down to 38 inches, they came from one of the big and tall companies. Pretty sure they have found that increasing sizes has helped sales.

Good to know they still make the button fly jeans, they were my favorite years ago, hopefully they will be again. Levi's 50 something as I recall.

i wound up going to the Levi website and getting two pair of 35/34. 35 waist is the last odd size they make and are usually hard to find. i could wear 34 waist, but the pockets are almost useless. they leave no room for any expansion... though again... this measurement is one that is slooooooowly getting better. the button-flys i have now are old jeans i've been pulling out of the depths of the closet, but i do think i saw them still on the website.

some good news from the doctor's visit arrived this morning... i like those numbers...!

lipid panel.jpg

A1C came in at 5.8 ... same as a year ago. was hoping to see lower, but i'm definitely still trending lower since my high of 6.4 four years ago. i dispute the "NONFASTING" triglyceride qualifier... they now count black coffee as breaking a fast because it is not a clear liquid ... *sigh* ... i didn't really feel like arguing.

when i saw on the web in multiple places that Melania T. was supposedly 5' 11" ... my shrunken height now(!) ... i decided to dig a little bit more ...

money may not be able to buy everything, but apparently it can make a little magic now and then.

Melania Trump is a stunner, regardless. NBA players have been notorious for exaggerating their heights. For years, the published heights were as they were measured in shoes, which makes no sense. They fixed that this year, and some of the players lost an inch or two.

when i got my first FAA medical exam the doctor measured my height in shoes so i started using 6' 1" after that... :) unfortunately that measurement got severely recalculated recently, and if i ignored that i would just be lying about my true BMI.

about M.T. ... i'm just wondering if someone didn't have to "adjust" her height so as to not conflict with hubby's reported 6' 3".

are they still giving out the Presidential Physical Fitness Badges?

nice surprise this morning.
after a bad couple days last week i was afraid i was headed back to the upper 160's...

going to see about getting some metal taken out of my toe in a few days so time to get in as many walks as i can before the down time. glad i have my own ideas about exercise... i'll miss getting out and about for a while, but i doubt if it will have much impact on my maintenance.

So can I start claiming my height as measured on stilts? Flyer like you I am getting shorter, in my youth I was maybe 5'8" at peak, now I am not much over 5' 6". My grandfather who lived to 99 dropped from 6' 3" to about my height by the time he died, I guess its a part of growing older.

No real comment on Melania, she looks fine, maybe too skinny for me, but its her other relations that worry me.

If your posture hasn't changed it's usually cartilage and vertebral disc thinning that's responsible for age-related loss of height. It all adds up.

Interesting but somewhat gloomy, about cartilage loss going along with age - I suppose that makes older people more susceptible to bad backs etc - more liable to damage from attempting to move weights they used to move in youth. The opposite of the Hercules and calf story.

it's been a while since i made up some snack packs. 36 servings in 32 baggies @ 181 kcals/ pack. mostly sesame sticks and soy nuts, but a bit of chocolate w/ dk choc & PB filling and a few chocolate covered almonds....

Yep, the only thing worse than growing old is the alternative! So far I have been able to think of my aging related changes as interesting, guess I'll have to wait and see if I can keep that attitude up.

Great looking snack packs Flyer, do you know how many calories per pack?

what i try to do is pick up enough snacks so the total servings add up to ~32 ... the total here was 36 servings... close enough... :)

in this case, i started with the sesame sticks and soy nuts and just started splitting them up in half (i have a nice Ohaus balance scale). after 4 splits i have 16 baggies of each. i split and combine them one more time to now have 32 baggies. with the rest, i just start dropping them into to baggies until they're all gone. the mix is a bit different in each, but the average calories (add them all up and divide by 32) is 181.1 kcals/ baggie.

well, that one didn't even show up on the USGS map... small ones (<3.0) don't get logged, but if they are close-by, you can still feel them... better if you happen to be staring at a computer screen at the time.

btw...

going to blow that on a cup of coffee right now, though... :)
