another vocab addition from the political arena... perhaps archaic, but i like it.

par·a·mour /ˈperəˌmo͝or/
noun, archaic
a lover, especially the illicit partner of a married person.

you gotta love small hometown newspapers.
this story made page 16 yesterday...

not one appetizer that didn't involve some sort of deep frying
When I lived in North Florida deep frying was pretty much the local cuisine. The closest eating place to my office, a real greasy spoon, had only a deep fryer for cooking, all things fried. No fresh anything. All sorts of deep fried veggies, most anything can taste good fried. At least you knew it was sanitized if hot.

slightly bigger town...

travel tip... hotel room refrigerators are notoriously set to ultra-high by the last person who wanted to get a 6-pack cold in the fastest time possible, so watch putting things like this in right away because they'll freeze. if there is no internal control, often it is on the back right at the top if you can pull it out some. i think i might add a fridge thermometer to my travel kit along with the extension cord and night light i usually pack.

i stopped by Chili's for a Dos XX and, why not ... chili.
Sheldon would be impressed... no beans.

their menu has everything annotated with ( xxxx cals) and i know they have good intentions, but of course... all calories are not digested equally. then again if they were to list carb, protein & fat calories separately, the overwelming general reaction would be ... "huh??"

does it bother anyone else that on the news day after day i keep hearing, "they have to keep this simple so voters understand....". what is happening to education?? ... ok, besides her.

Yeah, I get what you mean, but people are lazy and won’t read lengthy pamphlets. They just want to be spoon fed a 3 minute YouTube video.

Merry Christmas will do... thanks. notwithstanding that i'm in Texas, so it's pretty much the standard greeting you get here, anyway. a "Happy Holidays" with my California accent might not go over well. ...i do miss snow.... looking at it out a window with a fireplace in the background... not shoveling it.

Merry Christmas to all...!

Great pic! and merry Christmas to you, too. :) (There's the Twelve Days of Christmas, so I can say it even after the day!)

Is that you in the picture?
my California accent
I thought you were from Massachusetts originally, that's not an accent easily shaken, and not much like Californian, though in Texas it all sounds like Yankee.

I always try to add the Happy Holidays in recognition that not all reading this will be Christian, and I'd like them to have a good time as well. Eid Mubarak!

Is that you in the picture? ...
yes, that's me ... guessing i was around 5... really do not remember. Agnes, my mom's only sister, and i share the middle name of Shepherd. Agnes passed away last week (it was so quick, i had no time to even fly out before she was gone) and this trip is about taking care of her affairs and assisted living place and i'm now returning to Ca with her. this spring i hope to travel back to NJ (that's where i actually spent my first 10 years) and along with her best friend, will see she is near her parents who are at rest there. because of my dad being in the military, my mom is in Arlington. i wish we had talked about it more, but it is a hard subject to bring up. with that in mind, i thought i'd be proactive and at least now my nephews are aware of my wishes.

a little smile... i still have that string (bolo) tie.

... I thought you were from Massachusetts originally, ...
no, NJ... with a caveat. in the show "Jersey Shore", those people were not from NJ. they had Staten Island accents... maybe Jersey City, but certainly not most of the state. there are a lot of theories behind the name, but to us they were "Bennys".

my proclaimed Ca accent was just a metaphor.

one last look back before the start of the 'Roaring Twenties'...
my grandfather with his two daughters, my mom and Agnes.
