Hey,

I know this is a public diary, so I want to start off by introducing myself. My name is leslie, I am an over weight single mother who is 25 years old. I currently live in london, and I really want to loose weight a healthy and safe way. I am a uk size 18, want would ideally like to be a size 12 again, I have never been slim, as i have big thighs and hips!! But I want to get my shape back!! My son is nearly 5, so really I have been lazy, I am not afriad to admit it!! I know I have to make changes to my diet and exercise programmes!!

any help and guidance will be greatly appriciated!!

Hi! Welcome to the forums.

I'm not exactly sure how UK sizes translate into um..US sizes? (I honestly have no clue about sizes..i'm a girl who acts like a guy, if its comfy and fits, I'll buy/wear it!) But, if you're trying to slim down, the golden rule is simply: burn more calories than you consume.

The internet is your best friend. Look up a calorie calculator and it'll show you how many calories needed to maintain your weight, and how many calories to lose weight. If you cut your calories, don't go below 1200 calories simply because you're basically starving yourself if you go any lower.

Take baby steps. Start by eating whole-grain/brown bread/rice/pasta instead of their heavily processed white counterparts. Eat fruits/vegetables instead of cookies and crackers, or munch on some nuts instead of chips. Drink more water! Lots of it! Not only does drinking water flush out the extra toxins stored in your body, but it has no calories as well.

Join a gym if you can. If not, take a walk around the block or around the local park. And take your son with you! A nice, long walk is sure to burn off the seemingly limitless amount of energy children seem to have at that age. Just get active and get your body moving.

I wish you the best of luck!
