Fit by 60! - TomO's Pledge

That weekend sounds nice!

and 221 is looking like such a pretty number right now!

Despite the workload issues you've had lately, your weight loss seems to be in a great place! Yay for Tom!!

Weight: 223.2 - up 1.5 pounds from yesterday. LOL, I guess I gained 3 ounces for every 10 miles I rode yesterday! Oh well, I had 3 good days in a row; I guess it was time for the Scale Gods to get in a punch.

Today is legs day, so no biking. I'll have a nice ride on Thursday morning, though.

You know Tom, with all the bike riding you are doing, you could be depleting glycogen stores quite a bit. Then, when you eat normally, since you aren't low carbing or anything..... you get a bit of glycogen supercompensation. This can really affect what you see on the scale.

Just a FYI.

I think you might be on to something there. I noticed my weight went up after my century ride, too. Today is no riding, so it'll be interesting to see what happens tomorrow.

Oh yeah, I think Steve is right on this one! There has to be something that is storing in your body on certain days, because there is no way you could go up that much in a day AND work out as hard as you do. It's got to be a store of something and it's got to be triggered by either something your doing or eating. Or both! However, muscle weight might be a little factor too. But, I bet you see those numbers going down tomorrow if not already today. I can't wait to see what happens for you tomorrow, since your not riding today.

Well, at least it's better than a couple of weeks ago, when I went up 6 pounds in 4 days! Of course, that might be happening again, LOL. The closer I get to my goal, the more irrational the Scale Gods seem to get.

Weight: 222.2 - That's better, though still not where I want to be by the end of the month.

Did my upper body weights yesterday afternoon, and my cardio this morning: 33.4 miles, 1 hr. 55 min., 1488 cal., 17.4 mph. Very nice ride, as I had a marine layer the whole time, and 65 degrees. Seems like I missed every single traffic light though, so I spent a lot of time waiting around. I even had to wait for a train in Oceanside.

Well, looking at your siggie, Tom, you are still way ahead of schedule right now. I do find it rather exciting to the number between you and your goal shrinking the way it is. :)

The comments about an increase after the big rides are interesting. I don't altogether understand them and have popped them towards the "mysterious information" section of my weight loss ideas. Are you guys talking about a temporary fluctuation that just needs waiting out, or something that might be best dealt with through a little variation in diet?

Hi, Felici. I think it's more like a temporary fluctuation. I started the month at 224.7, so anywhere around 222.0 means I lost around 2.5 lbs., which is right on schedule.

Those marine layers make a nice break in the morning. Sounds like you had a good ride, well besides the lights. I am seeing a lot more of those bikes you have when I am going through Seattle. I may have to look at one. I am sure I would be falling all the time. Great job on the monthly loss.

Actually, I haven't fallen down more than 3 or 4 times. They do take some practice. But it is so nice to be able to ride over a hundred miles at a time and not have a single ache or pain in your butt, back, or neck.

Seattle's a great city for bike riding, from what I've read. Much more bike-friendly than southern California.

dbutterfield,
I didn't realize you lived in the Seattle area too! I love this place. The weather can't be much more perfect. :D

Hey Tom,
I haven't said hello in a while, so I thought I'd pop in and see how you were doing. I'm slipping, I know! :( Seattle is incredibly bike friendly. We have the Burke Gilman Trail which runs from the University of Washington (just north of downtown Seattle) all the way up and around Lake Washington and down again I think all the way into Bellevue. Its pretty long and a lot of people actually use it to commute.
There are also a ton of other places including bike lanes on the roads and the people here are fairly used to seeing people biking around.

Also the weather here is very mild. I know people seem to think it rains all the time but our version of rain is usually in a "misting" or "sprinkle" form. We only seldom get rain showers.

:D

Hi Sunny. Don't worry about slipping! It's practically impossible to keep up with everyone. Glad you're doing well.

Tom, I love the way you posted your pics, that's so cool! It's amazing how much you've changed since the beginning. What an accomplishment. Great job!! Hope your day is a good one!!

Ahhhhhhh, I'm so glad you feel better these days and that you're right on schedule. Doing what you set out to do, in the exact time frame, is obviously a huge accomplishment.
