Fit by 60! - TomO's Pledge

Morning Tom!! Great job on the workout yesterday, but I think only "YOU" know how your body is feeling and if it's tired and hurting all over, it's probably due for a change up in something, fatigue will wear you down, physically and mentally, which I don't have to tell you that. I see that scale is showing you another good day!! SWEET!!! It's almost time for that big B-Day!! My only advise to you, IS.... don't go working out so hard that when the big day comes your in so much pain you can't even enjoy the day. LOL LOL Have another good one!! And keep up the great work!

Hi, Kim. OK, when Steve comes back, I'll tell him you said it was OK, LOL. I'm thinking about doing a century 2 days before my bday, but I'm not sure now. I can't do my planned training ride on Saturday, the way I was planning, at least that's the way it looks now. Hmm, I wonder if it's OK to have a piece of cake on my bday. . .

Morning Tom! I was just looking at your ticker and thinking I'd be highly surprised if it took you until 7/23/08 to shed the last 27ish pounds...I mean 1) your plateaus are getting shorter (not even sure they are plateaua, maybe just the cycle in which your body loses weight?)...2) you keep increasing the intenstity and variety of your training...3)your bp is just one indicator that you are so much more fit than this time last year -and even if it's only a small increase, that plus your reduced bodyfat means that your metabolism is higher now than when you first started

....so, not to provoke the scale gods or anything...but I just don't see it taking another year...you might have to retire that "big boned" theory sooner than you think (oh, and I saw that show...until then I believed it too).

I have a feeling it will take that long, Cym -- mainly because I think the last 10 pounds will put the Scale Gods in full revolt. I wouldn't be surprised if I got to the teens before the end of the year, and then it took 8 or 9 months just to lose the last 15 pounds. As for my metabolism -- well, it's better in one sense, since I'm carrying proportionally more muscle, but it's worse in another sense, since my NARM drops with my weight. No fair!

I heard a place nearby is going to offer those dunk tank tests, along with a full metabolic analysis, for only $29. I plan on doing that if I can find out where to go.

Hmmm, what was it you said to me when I complained that just one of your delicious dinners was about half of my entire day's calories....oh yea "well, that's just the price you have to pay for being in a smaller body":rotflmao:

Hmm, I wonder if it's OK to have a piece of cake on my bday.
Yes, just make sure it's a really good piece of cake :)

dark chocolate lava cake with fresh raspberry sauce... or just stick some candles in creme brulee :D

I have to agree, that it's ALL about you on that day, so you BETTER have a piece of cake, just don't make it a HUGE piece and you'll be just fine!!! Mmmm, I can taste it right now. I'm drooling. Thanks!! :drooling: Oh yeah, go ahead and tell Steve I told you that, I'm ready!!!:boxing:

Dear Steve,
While you were off having fun in Hawaii with your new bride, I've been doing some thinking. Basically, you've been working me too hard. I'm tired and sore. Mal and Kim say it's OK to eat cake, and that sounds much more appealing than squats and deadlifts. So I'm appointing them as my new coaches. Thanks for all your help, and good luck with your more masochistically oriented clients.

Yours in gluttony,
Tom

*Note to self, Kim must go to Steve's Diary and plead the 5th*.......... Did I say that??????? me advise to eat cake, well, MAL SAID IT FIRST!!!

snap out of it bucko :)

I didn't say you had to sacrifice one for the other - all things in moderation :D

and if you're dining at home - the recipe for the original lava cake is here:

I'm the lazy one - not you... get back to the gym.. NOW!

but I give you recipes :)

you can have cake -there's a trade off though...

oh screw it - have the dang cake and a bottle of Macallans Single malt too...

OK, you just got promoted to Head Coach!!

Sorry Kim, but the single malt hit a soft spot.

The Scale Gods are gonna have a field day with me!

Maybe I can pack a picnic dinner of lava cake and scotch, put it on my bike, pedal a few miles, and pig out. Hmmm. . . I wonder if I could get a ticket for Biking Under the Influence.

I wonder if I could get a ticket for Biking Under the Influence.

The girlfriend of a colleague in Chicago got a ticket for biking under the influence -it was considered reckless behavior and she was a danger to herself and to others... Not sure if the bike was confiscated or not

Yup...seriously.

"California Vehicle Code does provide that it is unlawful for any person to ride a bicycle upon a highway while under the influence of alcohol (or drugs), and that all persons arrested for violating this section are required to give a test of their blood or breath (or urine, if drugs are suspected), just as in a driving under the influence case. There is no "per se" violation relating to a particular blood alcohol level (such as the .08 laws), as there are in traditional DUI cases.

A conviction of violating the California cycling under the influence statute subjects the violator to a base fine of $250.00. This is substantially less than the fines imposed for DUI cases involving "vehicles".

it'd be interesting to know what they consider a highway.... in most states bikes aren't permitted on highways... period... but you can ride a bike on streets... and you'd still get a DUI for riding drunk on any street.

I don't know about you, but if I drank and rode a bike I would probably PUKE! so I would say, probably not a good idea anyways. :( But you could safely eat a bite of cake while biking and still be alright, and NO TICKETS for eating while biking, Geez I hope not, that would suck! :rotflmao: Oh this is funny I can see you now Tom, wearing one of those Beer hats that guys wear to football games that have those straws that shoot down towards your mouth. HAHAHHA, OM GOSH! that would be so funny. "hey everyone, there's Tom and his liter of Scotch. HAHAHA!! :rotflmao: :jump: Now that would be something! You've seen these hats right? Maybe I'm the only one in on this joke, but it would be funny!

good point mal...I just know you can be ticketed...just like you can be ticketed for walking around drunk...at least in Califorina you can.

I'm just wondering if "under the influence" includes cake....ya know your tolerance for sweets gets pretty sensitive with all that healthy eating after awhile....be careful, TOM....eat cake and cycle responsibly! :D

Well, it's looking like I'm going to have to ride my bike in the park near our house, at least if I'm going to drink the scotch and eat the cake at the same time.

Hmmm. . . . I wonder what the HOA would say about that. . .

I'm liking this new exercise program you all have set up for me!
