Fit by 60! - TomO's Pledge

What are you doing up at 6:30am???

Hey I missed your weight.......

OOPS, I saw I forgot to put it in. Anyway, today it dropped down to 227.2. Now, if it could just stay below 227.0 for 5 days in a row, I could go on to Round 7!

I always get up early. Actually, I slept really well last night, so I'm up later than usual. But what are YOU doing up this early, my dear?

So are things totally on the outs with you and your BF?

I'm looking for a place to live! Was checking my email. OUTS? Nah. We MAY even move in together gain, it depends--we'll see. There's a very nice place in Los Gatos we're looking at--rent would be only $375 each and the owner works in Aptos (me too) and owns a Prius and we could carpool--seems nice, they have a cellar for all my wine!

Ohh, that sounds fantastic. And not bad rent, either. My daughter found a cheap studio in LA, for "only" $925 a month. She's moving for the 8th time in 5 years next weekend. How much wine do you have, anyway?

You know Beth and Bruce did a great job on their back yard, maybe we can all get together and make a weekend of it. LOL LOL Do you have a pool. HAHAHA After all that labor I'm going to need a pool or jacuzzi to relax in, with a nice glass of Shiraz to top it off, okay maybe not wine, but a nice cold light beer might just do the trick. LOL :) Oh I guess I should ask first how big is your backyard? Never offer your services until you know the facts first right? HAHAHA Details Kim, Details.

We don't have a pool, but the next door neighbor does. I'm sure you could sneak over there in the middle of the night, LOL. The yard isn't huge, only about 70 ft x 120 ft, but half of it is on a steep hill. That's the part I need help with. I guarantee you will lose weight if you remove all the weeds from that hill!

I'll get Val to come too, and bring her 30 bottles of wine. You and Beth and Bruce can drink it all while Val and I go off on a long bike ride. LOLOL :D

Uh uh, I don't think so! :rotflmao:

After my long bike ride on Sunday I went straight to Pelican Ranch Winery (P.R. and the Brewery share the same building, that's where my car was parked) and began tasting, kicking my cramping legs the whole while. The other wine tasters were amused. In fact, I'm often running around in my sweaty exercise clothes--glad S.C. is like that, and it's not like L.A. where people would think I was crazy for not putting on full makeup and shit.

Okay, WOOOO DOGGIE, I'm going off on the wine tasting venture if I'm coming to California, are you kidding me!!! I miss my wineries and bad!! But, I'm all about weeding a garden and I'm pretty much and expert on the hill thing as our house sits up on one and guess who ends up mowing that hill, UMMMM "ME" yep, while the others ride on the riding mower and do the other part. Hey, at least I'm the one burning all the calories!! Makes me feel a little better that way. I like it, who am I trying to kid.

Val, try some of that ThermoLyte stuff for your leg cramps -- after a long ride, I mean. I usually cramp up like crazy, but that stuff worked great.

K. I won't be able to ride like that for a while, the next weekends I shall be PACKING and CLEANING, Boo hoo!

Hi, Lula. My daughter is 23 and my son is 26.

About the same age as me (I'm 21). Didn't know you had a son too :)

It must be nice to have a dad that is so active and motivated - great role model. My dad has a healthy weight (I think - he might be bordeline) however he doesn't do any sort of physical activity, claims he's fat (he doesnt eat much, and doesnt like junk food - he's just inactive) and his belly is too big (aka puts him at risk). I really don't want him to suffer of inactivity related problems when he gets old, and I've joked around at dinner saying that he should go jogging (he knows my mum and I think he should do something) but he doesn't want to do anything! Any tips? I just got my mum to start doing weights and a bit of cardio but my dad ..is impossible to convert.

Lula, the only advice I can give is probably what you already know -- that the motivation to get in shape -- whether that mean weight loss or exercise or both -- must come from within. I have to admit that as much as I am a fitness nut now, most of my adult life has been as a couch potato. I didn't get motivated until my blood pressure started spiking and I was a candidate for type 2 diabetes.

Very few people over 50 can continue being healthy with no exercise. Eventually, without it, your body starts breaking down. Sometimes the thought of that is enough to motivate a man; sometimes it takes the actual process to start the motivation.

Hey TomO, just checking in to say hi :).

Hi, Cita. Getting on the old elliptical today?

Exercise Log - 7/10/2007

Today was a straight cardio day, so I went biking, of course!

Time: 2 hrs., 10 min.
Distance: 33.7 miles
Avg. Speed: 15.6 mph
Max HR: 153 (91% of max)
Avg HR: 124 (73% of max)

I went from my house to the Oceanside Pier, and then back again. Had a bit of a problem with my legs cramping up.

I worked on cadence today, trying to keep between 70 and 95 rpm all the time. Still have some work to do, but made good progress.

That is excellent time that you made. How long did you stay down at your destination before you turned around to do it again? What do you usually pack to bring along on your rides?

I'm packing and doing last minute things at work in anticipation of my trip tomorrow, so no time for the elliptical unfortunately. If I wasn't stressed and really busy then I would've begrudgingly gotten on the thing following your reminder!

If it's a 2 hour ride, I don't stop. Two hours or less, I just bring two bottles of water. More, I bring Thermolyte and Carbo Load.

Have a great trip to Miami!

That is EXCELLENT time!! Well your bike sure must be very ergonomic for that!

This evening I charmed people in Los Gatos and poured wine. Apparently I'm very charming in real life--and BTW it's a very small world! I found that out whilst chatting with the best customers of the restaurant. Ah, the world of wine! No exercise today, but tomorrow I'll do something special. Glad you had an excellent bike ride, sorry about the cramping--though I know all about it. You can;t stand and pedal in your bike, can you?

Yes, it's so comfortable, I'm in heaven. No, you can't stand on the pedals, so learning how to "spin" is really the key.

I bet you did charm everyone in Los Gatos! You mean, WLF is not real life?
