Fit by 60! - TomO's Pledge

How lovely that your daughter will be here for Father's Day. I can envision a day coming with you two and Marlene at the gym. What about that waiter/student? Maybe the 4 of you!! :)

It is a pity you have to wait for your bike now that you're psyched for it. Lucky you don't have to wait out the time as a rest fortnight!!

I hope you have a lovely time with your daughter this weekend.

Thanks, Felici. The three of us may even go to the gym together tonight!

Last night I had a great dream that I was riding through the country on my new bike. Then I woke up and realized it was just a dream. Rats!

Tom, sorry about your wife's not-so-great doc visit, but I know what you mean about being thankful in a way for the wake-up call. Sometimes that's really what it takes to get our head around the idea that this is something we "must do" instead of just "should" or "want" to do. It took something pretty similar for me to get serious this time. And, lucky woman, she's got you right there for guidance and support.

p.s. do we get a pic of you on the bike crusin' along?

Yeah, like I told Marlene, vanity is a good motivator, but fear is a much better one. :)
Yes, I'll include a pic of me on the bike on my 59th bday next month.

Workout Log - 6/16/2007

Today was Weights 1 day - upper body
View attachment 3722
33 minutes, 350 calories

The hardest was the calf raise, because I kept getting cramps. I figured out a way to do the jump squats without risking tearing my plantar fascia again -- I just jump onto a platform, so there's very little impact. That seemed to work pretty well.

I also did 25 minutes of steady state cardio on the step mill, for 381 calories at an average HR of 128 (75% of max).

So my total exercise today came to 731 calories, enough that I should end up the day with a half way decent deficit.

Weight: 230.4 - I guess the scale gods and GOM decided to be nice on Father's Day and humore me with an even better reading than yesterday. I'm not complaining!

Food yesterday came to 2,259 calories:
Fat: 87 gm, 25%; 24 gm saturated, 9%
Carbs: 204 gm, 33%; 32 gm fiber
Protein: 189 gm, 34%
Alcohol: 3 gm, 1%

My macros were exactly where I wanted them to be. Had a mahi-mahi sandwich for lunch and some lean beaf for dinner, giving me all the protein I needed.

With my NARM of 2,377 calories, and 720 calories from weights and SS cardio, I ended the day with an 838 calorie deficit, an accumulated deficit of 3,392 calories this month, and an accumulated deficit of 7,571 calories in this Round.

Right after I woke up, lying in bed, I was thinking on what a difference a year can make. Last Father's Day, I was almost 40 pounds heavier; I lay awake at nights listening to my heart pound because of my high blood pressure; my foot was in agony from plantar fasciitis, which I had had for 17 months; I was close to being depressed; I couldn't get up the stairs without huffing and puffing. I was thankful for a Father's Day, because I didn't think I see that many more of them.

On this Father's Day, I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of my bike; I'm happy; I'm looking forward to many decades of happiness with my wonderful kids and hopefully their spouses and kids. I feel in control of my life for the first time in many, many years.

Tom,
I read your comparison of last year and this one and it brought tears of joy to my eyes. You are an inspiration to anybody and everybody!
Happy Father's Day! :)

Wow--car free is really cool. I really don't have a love of bikes, but I did it when I was in England and I think it'd be so great for me to get a bike and start using it more. It sure is appreciated by the planet.

Hey Cannon. People thought I was weird when I bought a Honda Insight; then gas prices climbed above $3, and they thought it was neat. Maybe one day, people will think going car-less is neat, too. Of course, most people don't have the working conditions I do, either!

Tomorrow is Weights Day 2. Probably won't do any cardio afterward.

Marlene did cardio for over an hour today!

wow with any luck you and your wife are gonna be fitness buddies. You can go riding and tramping and all sorts together :D

Thats awesome!

Wierd that you have fathers day now ... our fathers day is first sunday of september :O

Wishes - thanks, I really look forward one day to getting a tandem recumbent bike. I think once Marlene gets into shape, that would be a real blast.

Julie - thanks, and you have a great week, too!

Hey Tom, I don't think I'll ever go without a car, but I don't use it too much if I can help it. Have a great week.

You too, Cannon. Technically, I won't be without a car, since we'll still have our family car, and I'll need to rent a car a couple of times a month to get to my work headquarters for obligatory meetings -- at least, that is, until I'm comfortable going over 100 miles in a day :)

Weight:229.6 - Holy Cow! I still don't believe I'm over this Round yet. If I have 5 days in a row, I'll call Round 5 over, so 2 more days. . .

Heh, I have to adjust a bunch of graphs on my spreadsheet now, because they were set up with a bottom limit of 230 lbs. :)

Food yesterday was at 2,987 calories:
Fat: 92 gm, 27%; 19 gm saturated, 8%
Carbs: 292 gm, 37%; 46 gm fiber
Protein: 225 gm, 30%
Alcohol: 22 gm, 5%

A little more alcohol than usual, because I had a big Bloody Mary with my Father's Day lunch with Marlene and my daughter. Marlene and I both had nice pieces of fish, grilled with no butter, steamed broccoli, and rice pilaf. We limited ourselves to a single piece of bread. So what would have ordinarily been a 2,500 calorie meal was turned into a 900 calorie meal. We ate a light dinner, making the day into a good one - 486 calorie deficit for the day, 3,878 accumulated calorie deficit for the month, and 8,057 accumulated calorie deficit for this Round.

If you look in the mirror, I doubt it's the Holy Cow looking back. Just get used to the new you.. ;) And how healthy celebrating! Yay!
Congrats on everything going sooo smoothly! :D
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this Round to end soon.. :)

Thanks, Julie. I'll keep my fingers crossed! It sure would be nice to be in the 220's for my birthday next month. :)
