Fit by 60! - TomO's Pledge

Well, thanks for clearing that up Steve and Tom!! I guess staying active is the best way to "have a high metabolism"

This is why, for me at least, nutrition is 80% of the battle in getting it off, but once it's off, exercise is critical in keeping it off. At 200 lbs., which is where I want to be in another year, my NARM will only be around 2,100 calories. Without the additional expenditure from exercise, I would be a very hungry boy! I figure at my target weight, I'll have to do an average of 500 calories a day in exercise just to stay there and eat enough to be satisfied.

HI Tom! You know the only part about getting smaller for me, is giving up those extra calories each day to maintain that smaller frame. I love food, so having to decrease it bums me out!! OR as you say, work out more, and my gosh, If I spend anymore time at the gym, my husbands is going to think he's a bachelor again and well, I can't have that now can I? LOL LOL The price of looking and feeling better, geesh! :jump:

Hey Tom! Glad to see you are still alive and kickin! When do you start your new routine? Best of luck with that!

Beth and I were talking the other day and she said we are both spreadsheet happy. I did the same thing.. kept track of my calorie intake and what I burned each day.. got a good spreadsheet that had the calories and nutrionional value of all kinds of foods on there. I was pretty anal about it! I was only eating about 1300-1500 calories a day.. usually burned about 700 on the elliptical.. burned my tonnage quickly! :)

Have a good one! Back in the gym for me tonight!

Later!

Bruce

Kim, I guess you're just going to have to sleep a little less, so you can work out more! :)

Hey, Bruce. I start my new routine in about a week. I'm taking some time off now to recuperate, since I've been pushing myself pretty hard the last few months. That new routine is going to kick my ass, so I've got to get ready for it.

You will rock it as always.

Good luck on your new routine, I'm sure you'll be able to do it! You seem to be able to accomplish anything you try, so I'm sure you'll do just great :)

Thanks, Risty. My back's a mess right now, so I'm not supremely confident, but that will change over the next few days. By the end of my rest period, I'll be ready to go again!

If the current routine wasn't kicking your ass, I can only imagine that you're going to be doing the workout from Rocky IV, lifting tractors and stuff like that.

YouTube - Rocky 4

Perhaps the cheesiest montage in film history depending on where you place Julia Roberts trying on costumes in Sleeping with the Enemy.

LOL, what a crackup. I wonder if that scene with the steroid shot was actually Stallone shooting himself up?

Weight: 232.4 - Round 4, Day 20. The Plateau is showing signs of rousing on the 2 count, but I still think he'll be finished tomorrow. I'll burn some extra incense for the scale gods and fire up the barbie for GOM.

Food yesterday was pretty good at 2,548 calories:
Fat: 123 gm, 43%; 21 gm saturated, 7%
Carbs: 279 gm, 41%; 40 gm fiber
Protein: 106 gm, 16%
Alcohol: 0

I didn't exercise at all yesterday, so all I had was my NARM of 2,324 calories. That left me with a surplus for the day of 224 calories, but a deficit for the whole month of 12,855 calories, probably the best I've ever done.

My back feels a lot better today - still not totally up to par, but a lot more like a half-centenarian instead of a full-fledged one.

Today I plan on taking my dog Chaco for a nice walk. That will only use up about 400 calories or so, but he and I will enjoy it immensely.

Good news on your back. I'm glad you are already starting to feel better. Take care of yourself these next few days and don't rush the recovery. Let yourself heal and you'll bounce back stronger than ever. I'm anxious to read your diary after your new routine kicks in.

Hi sweetie! Just trying to get caught up on you. I think the time off from the weights will be very helpful and is much deserved! Your back will thank you I'm sure. These plateaus sure are highly frustrating! I'm trying a different approach to eating this week to see what happens. I've basically stopped calorie counting and deficit counting, haven't exercised in about 2 weeks and am still maintaining the same weight. I'm in my last 10 pounds so maybe its a bit different, but the daily deficit thing with no results got depressing for me.

I can totally understand. I slacked off on the incense for a while myself. The last 10 pounds are supremely difficult. Your body resists taking off that last bit of fat with everything it has. Stealth attack seems to be the best strategy. Let it think you're back to "normal" and then WHAM - kick it in the butt when it least expects it. You'll get there! :)

Non-linear dieting is your answer.
