all sprint at level 12, 200 bpm

Notes: I'm definitely sure my max heart rate is 170, not 168, so I'll recalibrate all my interval workouts accordingly, as well as my HIIT sessions. Just as on Friday's workout, I was totally exhausted by the last sprint, but overall really kicked ass.

At Costco this Sunday, I bought a 700 pack of incense. I've been burning them all day, every day as an honor to the scale gods, as well as making special offerings to GOM (god of metabolism), and by god, it's worked! The reading this morning:

235.0

Even if the gods are teasing me, I never thought I'd see that number this month!

Food intake was 3 out of 5 in quality - 3 because during my drive home from being on site all day, the Starbucks Scylla and Charybdis sang their sweet song on the freeway, and I succumbed to a piece of lemon cake and black tea lemonade, a 500 calorie fubar on my part.

Still, with my NARM of 2,283 calories, plus 988 calories from exercise, I ended up with a 768 calorie deficit, with an accumulated deficit of 5,890 calories for the month. And even though the house smells like shit . . . er, incense . . . it's all been worth it.

I wonder why there aren't more people my age on WLF. It's not that there isn't a shortage of fat people in their 50's and 60's, that's for sure. My theory is that by that age, most people have tried so many times and failed so many times, they've just given up. So they accept their hypertension, their T2 diabetes, their strokes and their heart attacks as the normal course of life. I know I certainly was in that frame of mind just one year ago. That's my theory, anyway.

Hi Tom! Haven't been around much but glad I came back in time to spot today's weight!!! Great job on the 235 mark! So your ticker says that's 35lbs down from July 2006 and 35lbs to go! Way to go on reaching the half way mark!! That's a fantastic achievement!

Thanks, Rachie. Yes, it is a nice feeling to be half way there, that's for sure.

My theory is that there are still a lot of folks (our ages) out there, dieting, etc, but they are not on the computer/internet, using it as a tool for support. They are either not interested in what the internet has to offer, or they are overwhelmed by technology in general and do not want to take it on, or are not informed. Ten years ago, I used the computer for writing, but it was my son who was 16 at the time, who convinced me to get cable internet (I was not clued in at all about the internet at that time). My parents are now pretty savvy about the internet (though it took some convincing to get them onboard with a computer and internet service)...so it may be more of a computer generational issue rather than a lack of health concern.

Tom, you make a good point...so many people have tried and failed (over and over again) that they may just be resigned to their situation and not have the desire to do anything more about it.
