First stop: Spartan Turkey

After some thoughts and consideration, and my previous diary's title of trying and trying, I decided I need a goal. A few years ago I had success with my penultimate goal, i.e. not finishing last in a race.

So this time I want to get to 300 or less by Thanksgiving (hence the title of this thread). I will do it using the following life changes:
1. I'm adhering to my regime of rowing 4 times a week, but I also plan on doing something physical every day for at least 15 minutes. Or 30 if it's strength training.
2. Counting calories every day, and ensuring I meet my goals. I know weekends will be a challenge, so I'll up my allowance for Friday , Saturday, and Sunday. And during the week I'm going to have 2 days of semi-fasting: light breakfast and lunch (e.g. yogurt, avocado, banana), reasonable dinner.
3. Figuring out the mechanisms of my food addiction. I can control myself sometimes, but I have those delightful binge attacks.
4. Work my way through the bumps in life - like travel and parties - where food choices will be a challenge.
5. Daily check-ins here. And attempt to check in with others regularly. Confessions (good and bad) and support are good for me.
6. Daily weighing. Serves as a reminder to what I'm trying to do.

Day 0 begins today; meaning that I'm starting the new diary now, going full bore tomorrow. I'm currently on a plane back from a business trip and felt the need to capture my thoughts. I was pretty good about my food this week, and I got to the hotel fitness center twice.

:D SPARTAAA!!! I still have "eye of the tiger" as my soundtrack when things are going my way. Good luck with the new diary; it's good to have you back as a regular.

Excellent plan LJ. It will be good to have you back again as a regular & good that you feel that you are back on track.

Day 1 was kind of a trainwreck. Started out with good intentions, but I had a lot to do today, and a plethora of crankiness. Even dinner was OK, but I had to make something unhealthy for Mother's Day.

There's always tomorrow.

Someone said they purposely mess up the first page of every new sketch book to get rid of the pressure of being perfect every time. You can choose your direction anew with each and every step.

Thanks Cate and LaMa. There's a reason why I usually start over on Mondays. Today's proving to be the same, a hearty breakfast and lunch will be pizza. I think I'll have salad for dinner, try to make up the overrun of the weekend by being good during the week, when it's much easier to behave.

367 lbs this morning.

Oops, I forgot to write yesterday. Yesterday was pretty good - got 36 minutes of rowing in at a decent pace/power output. Equivalent of a medium-paced jog. Food was OK - I overdid the junkfood, but I still stayed below my goal.

Today's breakfast was a banana and coffee. Lunch is an avocado and water. Not sure what dinner will be, but I'm planning a 40-minute row - made easier courtesy of finding Green Arrow on Netflix. 70-something episodes, and the first episode roped me in.

Weight this morning = 364.4 lbs

Sounds like a better day, good on you. An avocado for lunch wouldn´t leave me satisfied (quite apart from the allergies), but to each their own. Great job rowing, I can do 15 minutes at most!

36 minutes of rowing is really good LJ. An avocado wouldn't be enough for me either. With a hard-boiled egg & a little vinaigrette- much better & yum!

I was pretty hungry when I got home, but still behaved for snack time. Dinner was a turkey burger and salad, and maybe too many pretzels with more avocado. Rowed a good 40 minutes, so that was good. Today is row-free; probably go for a walk or bike ride with the crew, it's a perfect day out.

I'm traveling to Puerto Rico next week, and it's going to be long days followed by dinners with the team. I'm hoping the long days will allow enough time before dinner for a walk or visit to the fitness center. Lotta rich foods on the island, it'll be a challenge.

Side note: I hit Dairy Queen on the way home. Not a wise choice, but I chose wisely while I was there, at least. Got 1100 calories left in today's budget.

Choosing wisely while at unwise places is a skill to be developed and cherished. You can do it!

Thanks LaMa, I did it again for dinner when we mutually decided that cooking was overrated. Went to a place with great sandwiches and breakfast all day, and a surprisingly good (although small) beer selection. I opted for a greek-styled salad and a couple beers. End of the day I was 100 calories over goal, but still needed to knock out my 15 minutes of activity, so I rowed for 15 minutes and burned 150 calories. Goal: met!

Working from home today and so far managing to do a good job of food intakes. Corn Flakes and V8 for breakfast. Turkey burger for lunch. Planning on a turkey and black bean meatloaf for dinner tonight with a salad. And 44 minutes with a sore arse on the rowing machine.

Thanks Stacy, it'll be conference rooms and shop floors all day long. Not much of the sub-tropical fun most people picture.

Hey Zach, no Spartan race for me. Not anytime soon, anyway. The Spartan part is the goal of 300 lbs (as in the movie). I'm a long way from any kind of competition, right now I'll be happy to go the day without my feet hurting. As far as planning food, that's been a challenge with the travel I've been doing lately. I think next week will be the end of it for a while, so I can go back to making my own frozen meals (4 oz meat, half serving of complex carb, gobs of vegetables, some kind of sauce)

Interesting day yesterday. I worked from home and did good with breakfast and lunch, and even snacking. Dinner was that embodiment of evil: taco night. Oy, I'm glad I had a long row yesterday to go with the overdose of crunchy goodness. Came in at 1 calorie over goal for the day, but didn't count the time I spent planting grass seed.

Tomorrow's challenge: Red Sox game and a belated Mother's Day meal with my wife (no kids: Sox tickets are too expensive to bring them to a game). Game itself will be OK since the vendor prices regulate my intake - figure a beer and a pretzel and life'll be good. Good amount of walking, too. The downside is the dinner itself - a place that likes to rock lots of cocktails, but I can probably stop at one and then have a red wine. Limit food choices to seafood and salad.

Have fun with the wife! Sounds like you´re going to have a blast. Well done sticking to your calories despite taco night
