First steps

Hi - I'm taking my first steps today towards sorting myself out. I have tried diet upon diet, and can lose weight, but i just can't stop eating. I love the feeling of being thin, but when I have a problem, I just reach for the food. I really need some support from people in the same position as me - the majority of my friends don't have weight problems - they may smoke or drink too much but they can't relate to how it feels to be overweight.

AStarting is always difficult. If you are serious about getting into shape , you ll have to change the mentality "im on a diet " and be something like "Im going to eat helthy from now on for the rest of my life!"
No diets and starving yourself.Loads of veggies , some fruit , cut out all the junk like burgers and chocs , candy and buttery things. Its no good to your heart aswell as your weight.
Try think of a plan that works for you!Somwpeople live by calorie counting , others have a free day each week, some people eat 5 small meals a day some dont.Think what work for you and your lifestyle.Be POSTIVE not in the bad mood "im fat , ill never be thin"
Think happy and follow your plan you make!
Add some exercise and there you ' ve got it!!!!!
Are you male, female?how much do you weigh? If you want to tell us somethings about yourself and eating habbits

WOW, thank you. Your response really made me smile. My major issue is eating through stress I think - I no longer smoke, and dont drink a lot so when there's hassle here, I just cram in the food. that['s the bit I have to sort out - and it's taken me a while to admit it - mostly I've been hiding it but I recently admitted to my husband that is what I'm doing. I'm a part-time working mum in the UK. I would like to lose about 3.5 stones. I dont' have an end date in mind, I would just like to change my relationship with food!!! Thanks again.

AI think stress is the major reason why most people are overweight. But the good thing is that you reconize it!I myself eat when i am bored, have nothing to do,so i try keep myself busy as much as i can.Someone on here told me to workout when feeling angry and it works!!!it makes me feel much better after, you can try do that too. When stressed you can go for a long walk or go to the gym. There are solutions for everything, really , you just have to find out what works for you.
Changing yuor relationship with food is the key!YOu dont have to give it all up.YOu could have something naughty if you really crave it but not as much as you used to,the portions count soooooo much,
No need to say thanks!we are all here working for the same reason!going through similar things and feelings about food.I dont think i would have made it ,to where i am today if it wasnt for this forum.I have received great advice!and encouragment!!!

A!something else. You can take a pic of yourself while starting your new lifestyle, and just keep it.Then after some pounds take another and another. It has helped me so much the taking photos!YOu can post them later if you want or just keep them private, you will feelk sooooo lovely when you see little differences!

There are many reasons for overweight. Some have eating disorders. Some may have physical disorders. Psycological factor is also one of the important reason for it.

Aof course there are so many reassons for overweight.I think if you are overweight you have a eating disorder whether that is eating from stress, for covering emptyness in you ect.My reason for been overweight was finding comfort in food i couldnt fine from people.Whenever i was sad i would eat,sad about not having love and affection and comfort from people....
Now i overeat sometimes when i have nothing to do,like a bad habbit...

Hi - there's definitely no health excuse that I can hide behind for my weight - I overeat when stressed, or when happy (bizarrely). However, I did manage to keep it all under control over the weekend, and found I'd lost 1.5lbs this morning - aiming for the 3lbs next week. Only another 47.5lbs to go.....

Hope you all had nice weekends too!!!

Don't worry! If you're feeling stressed out or worried, try exercising. Exercising helps burn cortisol and norepinephrine, which cause stress, and releases endorphins to help you become happier! Talk to yourself if you have to. "I know I'm stressed, but I'm NOT going to reach for that donut." Give yourself a british accent. "I shan't eat that doughnut". Whatever it takes to keep you from eating =)

Good luck!
