First Diary, New Effort......

My first thoughts of wanting to lose weight date back to middle school, always wishing and wanting but never really doing much about it.

In 2007 I gave it a thunderous effort and lost 50 pounds. Never before had I felt so comfortable in my own skin and the new self-esteem felt great. :coolgleamA:

But I did use some heavy caffinated diet pills, and once I stopped taking those and abandoned my workout regimen, I gained it all back. :-(

Now that I know it can be done, and how good it feels to be there, I'm going for it again, this time with no artificial aid, all natural and by myself, that way it can be permanent. I'm not going on a diet, I'm taking up a whole new lifestyle, for life. :)

Today is Thursday February 5th, 2009. I currently weigh 265 lbs and with a goal of 180, I will weigh myself once a month on the 5th to check my progress, along with a picture so I can see it and compare. :)

Here goes nothing......

Edit: Here are some questions from the sticky I thought I should answer, might be cool to look back and see later on.

-- How much weight do you want to lose?
I want to get down to 180, that is my goal. But after that I would hope to get to maybe 170 or 160, my medical recommended weight, but one goal at a time.

-- What is the time frame for reaching your target weight?
I’m giving myself a year, 12 months, to get to 180. I am also going on a school trip to France this July and I would like to lose as much as possible by then, to look the best I could look, by that time. =D

-- How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)?
I’m completely retooling the way I eat. I’ve cut out soda, caffeine, and alcohol completely, whenever I have to eat out I’ll just get the plain sandwich avoiding the fries, and lots and lots of working out of course.

-- Who or what can support you in reaching your goal?
This diary, this having to live up to what I wrote down will be a big help, has been a help.

-- How realistic is your goal?
I think it’s very realistic. It’s unnatural to be this overweight, so wanting to be at your ideal weight shouldn’t be impossible.

-- When will you start?
I started with this diary February 5th, and have been going strong since.

-- What is your current height and weight?
My stating weight was 265. My height is 5’11”

-- Why do you want to lose weight?
Because I don’t like being overweight and want to be 100% happy and comfortable with how I look, I also want to be extremely healthy, avoid diseases such as diabetes which runs like wildfire in my family, and extend my years of life very much.

-- Why do you believe that you did not lose weight or you gained the weight back?
I gained it back because of carelessness, I was a good weight but got lazy and stopped working out and took it a bit too easy. I also had done it with diet pills, that’s completely out the question this time.

hello^^
sooo what are you going to do in this new lifestyle of yours?!
that really sucks that you had to experience gaining it all back =T
but at least you learned from you mistakes =D
good luck this time around.

Hello Angelica. Thank you, I wish you luck too.

I'm being concious of what I eat and how much I eat, and avoid unhealthy foods. About 6 months ago I completely gave up soda, soft drinks, and energy drinks (caffeine in general) and a year ago completely gave up alcohol as well. :-D

I also know exercise is key, so I'm gonna implement near daily exercise. :)

That is outstanding you lost 50 lbs.!!! sorry you gained it back, I am so happy to here too that you are ditching the diet pills and have a new way of looking at things!! I think that is the real first step to a better life, our mindset on how to reach our goals and live a better life.

:hurray:

Welcome to the forum and your new journal :) it looks like you ar off to a good start, Good luck on your weight loss journey :)

The thing about counting calories is that it's hard to know how many calories are in home cooked food, whenever I eat something that was cooked at home, how could I count those?

Join a site like fitday of calorie king and log your food and the site will assist you with calculating your calories.

^^Thank you I will try that out.....

Feb. 6---

Went to the Gym at 1pm, did 30 mins of cardio on the cross-training machine at a mid-high intensity. Then I went in the pool for 20 mins and swam as much as I could (I'm not good at swimming btw). Then got in the whirlpool (jazucci) for 10 mins, then stayed in the Steam room for 10 mins.

It's good you're getting into the weight loss with a new mindset to do it unassisted by something that will give you weight loss but not in the long run. You're going to do a million times better the healthy way!

Feb. 6--

Went to the gym again today at 9pm. Did 30 mins on the cross-training machine again at a decently fast pace. Then did about 10 mins of machines (since I had already worked out earlier). I did 4 machines; bicep curl, lateral pulldown, low back extension, and pectorial fly. I only did about 2 sets of 12 reps on each.

I'm not trying to overdue it, I just had a strong urge to work out after class today, and since the school has a gym on campus, I used that one. Working out can be addictive, I found that out my first time around.

Way to get back on the wagon! :) You're going to do so well - just keep up all that hard work.

DUDE, you're going to be HOT-hot-hot once you slim down! :)

Today I had:

1. A granola bar, a small portion of steamed rice, a small serving of soup for breakfast.
2. A chicken sandwich from Carl's Jr w/ no sauce of any kind, no fries either, just some watered down lemonade with it for lunch.
3. A small 1 cup serving of spaghetti for dinner, and a half bowl of cereal served with 2% milk.
4. A couple fruits throughout the day and my daily vitamins of course.

Today was a busy day and was only able to do 30 mins of cardio on the cross-training machine before they closed the gym.
