Finally serious about losing weight - with an important deadline.

Day 18

Little bit of a rocky start this morning, but at least my sun burn isn't hurting anymore. It's now in that blistering/pre-peeling/oozey stage. :ack2: Thankfully my bf sent me home with his aloe vera gel he got in Hawaii. I think that saved my life over the past 2 days. lol

I'm now stuck with a horrendous head ache that originated during work. Not sure what it was that caused it. I think I'll just blame the heat...

On a positive note, watched the movie "Lucky number Slevin". Awesome movie, but not for the faint at heart. Lots of violence but has such a great twist!

August 21st, Thursday
Breakfast: Meal replacement shake (230 cal)
Snack #1: Salad with tomato, mushrooms, carrots, and a few croutons with basil vinaigrette (about 120 cal)
Snack #2: Low Fat Yogurt (100 cal)
Lunch: Meal replacement shake (230 cal)
Dinner: Curry chicken and broccoli over rice (about 650 cal?)

Total calories: 1330

Chicken curry, one of my favorites. I love that movie too, such a cool twist, you don't see it comming either haha.

The low down:
Age: 26
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 200lbs
Goal weight: 145lbs
Deadline: April 2009 (so I can order my bridesmaid dress)

The plan:
I'm watching what I'm eating. I'm really reading about calories and keeping track of what I eat. I'm trying to stay in the calorie range of 1400-1700/day. I also found a Wii Fit and that will also help me keep track of my BMI and weight along with making various exercises at home fun. I've been going to the gym with a friend who also needs to lose weight. Having the mutual support has really enabled me to step out of my shell and try classes at 24 hour fitness.

I started eating less and healthier on Monday and have lost about 2 lbs already! I last weighed myself on Thursday and refuse to get on the scale until Monday in hopes of seeing more dramatic results. lol

I will continue to post up here with progress. I think that having a diary in a forum like this will keep me motivated. I can't wait to look like how I feel. :)

Dear crazygirl,

Based on your age, height, weight and activity level, your daily calorie need is about 2,300kcal. You are 1,400-1,700kcal/day, so your weight loss per week from this diet alone is about 1.3-2.0 pounds.

Here's are more tips to help you lose weight:

Tip #1 – Do not engage in moderate exercise. Your appetite will increase immediately after your exercise. You are not burning much fat, but burning your carbohydrates mostly. You are also building up muscles and muscles are 22% heavier.

TIp #2 – Do not engage in vigorous exercise. Your appetite will decrease immediately after, but will increase the next 3-5 days. You are burning 0% fat, and burning 100% carbohydrates!

Tip #3 – To burn those fats quickly, you should do light activity like walking, household chores, grocery shopping, carrying an infant, or even walking up stairs. Though light activity, you will lose 30-60% fat. Not bad!

Tip #4 – Drink sufficient water for your weight to reduce water retention and remove toxic waste. How much to drink? Drink half of your body weight (measured in pounds) in ounces. 1 glass is about 8 ounces. For you, you need about 12.5 glasses of water a day.

Tip #5 – Reduce your daily calorie intake. Every 500kcal you reduce a day will help you to lose 1.1 pounds or 0.5 kg a week. So have a diet plan that focus on food nutrition and regular meals. Cut down on fast food and snacks too. Fast food often contains de-natured meat, and the body treats them as plastic! Yucks!

Follow these 5 simple tips and you will be on your way to burn that fat and lose weight permanently, without any drugs or supplements! I am sure you will fit that dream bridesmaid dress of yours!

Thanks so much ansonteo!

I've been trying to figure out what exercise routine I like and that I can stick with. I do want to build a little muscle but tone up for the most part and be fit. After starting this new lifestyle I've noticed that I eat a lot less, don't snack when bored, and drink a TON of water. I just keep refilling water bottles and have a few ready to go in my fridge. They don't leave my side.. lol Also, looking back in this diary, I've been eating about 1000-1300 cal on average. I'm pretty surprised as to how little calories can really fill you up. I just want to make sure I'm getting enough nutrients on daily basis. I would love to hear future comments from ya!

Day 19

Had an awesome time doing Turbo Kickboxing at 24 hour fitness this morning. I think I was using muscles that haven't been used in a loooong time. Wow!

August 22nd, Friday
Breakfast: Meal replacement shake (230 cal)
Slight snack: 2 orange wedges (15 cal)
Lunch: Meal replacement shake (230 cal)
Dinner: Peppercorn lamb with mashed red potatoes and veggies + some bread (about 600 cal)
Late night snack: My leftovers from dinner (about 300 cal)
Drink: 1 Honeyweizen (Skyscraper Brewery) (about 200 cal?)

Total calories: 1575

Sorry you haven't been feeling so well lately. I bet a lot of it has to do with you sunburn and just overdoing it last weekend. Sometimes, we have to pay for too much fun! Ha ha...

Did you make the chicken curry yourself? I love Indian food, but the curry recipe I have is mostly butter & milk, so the next time I make it I want to try something different.

The lamb sounds really yummy, also! You are making me hungry... :drool5:

Hey crazygirl :D Congrats on the 7 pounds so far!

I saw in Alisa's journal (ugotwillugotway) that you were talking about an interview/paper that you wrote on daycare vs. stayhome care. I'm really interested in reading it if you don't mind sharing it. I was a daycare/preschool teacher/babysitter for about 6 years and now I stay home with my little boy so I am not biased to either. I just think it would be interesting to see what other moms have said and what you wrote about. Thanks!!

Keep up the great work!

The chicken & broccoli curry is a recipe my mom came up with. It's more of a casserole, using cream of chicken soup as the base. It's really simple and when I was looking more into it, doesn't have TOO many calories. (Just keep the portions in check!)

I eyeball the recipe but this is about how it goes:

The basics:
2 cans of cream of chicken soup (or 1 large can)
Curry powder to your liking (just taste it to know when you have enough)
About 1/4-1/3 cup of milk (to thin out the consistency of the condensed soup)
I used to use 1 glob of mayo (1-2 Tbsp) to give it some tang, but I left it out for the calories.
Mix in:
Toasted slivered almonds (1/4-1/3 cup is what I use)
About 2 bunches of Broccoli (need to steam them first & blanch them in cold water so they don't continue cooking before you mix them in)
1 or 2 chicken breasts cooked and diced (I like to first pound the chicken out to an even thickness, dust "montreal chicken" seasoning on it and then throw it under the broiler (about 5 min on each side). Makes the chicken really juicy and no extra fat!)

In a glass (9 x 13) casserole dish, spray with non-stick cooking spray and dump the mixture in. Bake at 325 for about 35-40 min or until you see the sides bubbling up.

I have the report on my computer (I'm using my bf's now--I stay at his house on the weekends). I'll send you the info when I get back to my house along with some places to find interesting text on the subject matter. :)

Thank you so much for the recipe. I am definitely going to try this. I made a curry sauce without the usual butter and milk tonight that was absolutely amazing. I cannot stop raving about it. The recipe is on my diary entry for today if you are interested.

Day 20

Today was rough!!! I ended up running errands with my bf, Ryan, and didn't plan to be out so long. I refused to eat unhealthy snacks so I was starving. I should have grabbed something but really didn't expect to be gone so long. I ended up feeling really light headed and had a pounding headache. It got so bad by the time we finally left where we were I was such a grouch and was really short with Ryan. I felt so bad, but I knew I needed to fuel my system. I tried to explain that I was hoping to never experience anything like this and I always wanted to be "prepared". I kick myself for not having some kind of back up with me. I think I'll throw some kind of energy bar in my purse for those kind of situations.

August 23rd, Saturday
Breakfast/Lunch (12:30pm - I realllly slept in since I was up late): Meal replacement shake (230 cal)
Dinner (7:30pm): Japanese curry set (rice, salad with Japanese dressing, curry beef, 2 fried shrimp, and a small cup of soup). It's really the perfect portion and I love Japanese curry (so much different than thai). (maybe 500 cal?)
Movie Snack: 100 calorie oreo pack

Total calories: 830 cal

Japanese curry (The Curry House)
Mmmm... so good!

Ugh... Not a good day. At least when I finally had dinner things got a little better.

Average The Pounds

Figure you want to take off 50lbs, think, some weeks you'll take off more, some weeks you'll take off less. At the end of each month, average your weekly weight loss to get a weight loss number per week. Using this method will keep you from getting frustrated if you have a low number or stay the same. This is the worse thing about taking weight off, your body will give up the fat at different times throughout the journey. Some people get discouraged and quit because the weight does not come off the way they want it to. Allow about 52 weeks to take off 50lbs.Then plan a great reward for yourself. Now you are guaranteed SUCCESS!

Yummy... more curry. That Japanese curry sounds delish. I am used to Indian curry. (That's what I made last night...) Do you know if it is much different than Thai curry? Just curious.

Well, about your day...
Yes, I would recommend keeping something in your purse or car that you can snack on in an emergency. You don't always know when your plans are gonna change from what you thought. But also, don't let yourself get hungry. You can always grab a salad (leave off the dressing) from most fast food restaurants these days. Or, you could just choose an option that won't KILL your diet.

Anyway, here's to a better day today! :cheers2: Have a good one...

Thai curry is way hotter then Japanese curry. I love both, but you can find green thai curry, white, all sorts of kinds, I saw a curry recipe book the other day, I bet it has the works in it. I used to live in Japan and I loved their curry. I would get some at least once a week.

Stacy- Japanese curry can come in all different levels of heat. If you have any Japanese markets or any food stores that sell international products near you, my may be able to find a box of the curry. It comes in a box as a dried block of curry, just add water and simmer. It has a really unique flavor and I absolutely love it. I think I love all kinds of curry simply because it has so many different spices in it to make it so unique.

This site has the types of curry you can find locally and that are used at The Curry House that I went to:

I prefer the Java Curry (hot)...

As far as grabbing a salad at a fast food place, I wasn't in the position to go get one otherwise I would have. We were stuck at Ryan's mom's house since he needed to set up a wireless router for her. This was supposed to be a quick stop but he got side tracked by showing his mom and sister pictures from the weekend and then they were sharing funny youtube videos. His mom hadn't made it to the market and already apologized for not being able to offer us anything to eat/drink. They only had some peanut M&Ms and there as no way I was going to have those.

However, it's experiences like those that really make you aware to the importance of having a back up plan of sorts.

I am so jealous that you lived in Japan! One of these days I plan to travel there. Maybe as a reward to myself one I graduate and lose the rest of the weight. lol

Day 21

Much better day today. Ended up just taking the day to snuggle up with my bf and relax and watch some x-files. He got the dvd set of all the seasons (61 discs) and we got through disc 4 of season 1 today. lol Quite a way to go... It so crazy to see the cast so young and how the technologies have changed since when it was filmed in 93. Still awesome regardless. :D

August 24th, Sunday
Breakfast: Meal replacement shake (230 cal)
Lunch: 12" Subway Sandwich - Roast Beef on Wheat, lots of veggies, easy mayo, no cheese. (about 600 cal)
Snack: 100 calorie pack
Dinner: 1/2 Italian chopped salad (250 cal)
Dinner Drink: Black Velvet (berry cider with porter float) - (about 250 cal?)
Dessert: 1/2 "pizookie" (pizza/cookie: they bake a cookie in a small pizza pan and top it with vanilla ice cream) - (about 300 cal?)

Hmm.. can you tell we went to a pizza/brewery for dinner? lol

Total calories: 1730

I splurged for dinner but made sure to box up half of my salad and went light with the dressing. It's crazy to think about how many calories I must have been eating before I started becoming more aware of what I consume. I'm actually too afraid to calculate an average day of eating... After looking up calories/fat of local fast foods and what I used to order, that was frightening enough! I'm so happy that I finally made the commitment to better my life.

Hi Crazygirl,

I see you are using a meal replacement shake. That's a good way to control your calorie intake. Here's a tip to make full use of it (in case you are not already aware).

Say you let your hair down and exceed the calorie quota for a particular meal, e.g. a get-together dinner with friends and you absolutely have to join in and EAT. The next day, you should take a meal replacement shake for dinner. This way, you compensate for the "extravagant" calorie intake the previous dinner.

That's why it is called a meal replacement -- to replace the previous meal of the day that you over-eat.

Cheers!

It's called a meal replacement so you can replace a meal for that day... there have been a lot of studies i've seen that people who "cut back" the next day to compensate for a binge the prior day does nothing but put people into a binge purge cycle that they can't get out of.

Exceed your calories on one day - ok fine -move on -resume normal eating the next day.. don't cut back -don't starve youorself - don't replace meals with chemicals.. Eat sensibly.. One bad day is not going to undo hard work

I agree with you. When I did the research on just the pizza & popcorn I almost fell over in my chair. It is great that you are now aware of what you are eating, and good for you for being able to put away half of that salad!

YEA!!! Have a great day!
