Hey guys,

I just joined the other day. I guess I should share a little bit about myself here. My name is Kristen I'm a almost 21 year old female who recently (Oct. 09") decided to make a lifestyle change after my mother (53) suffered a heart attack in mid August 09" Thankfully it happened while she was in the hospital. She was hooked up to the EKG at the time, so nurses were able to know something was off immediately. Due to the amazing fast acting staff, her heart muscles had sustained little to no damage. To date my Mom is healthier than she's been in years! And has slimmed down some her self.
It was not long after the heart attack I made a change in my own lifestyle.
This time it was bigger then looking or feeling good, it was my health! My Mother's father died of a heart attack in his late 50's. Heart disease has a strong hereditary predisposition link. I now knew with both my Mom and Grandfather, heart diseases is in my genes, something I could not change. I However was not at a healthy weight, this wasn't helping my chances at a healthy life either. So....I cleaned up my diet cut out soda's, high sugar foods and such, ate in moderation and joined a gym. Which has helped me immensely!
I go 6 days a week doing around 2 hours of cardio a day. Its work but I love it! At 5'4" my starting weight was 214 lbs. which may have been higher because it took me 3 weeks to get myself onto a scale...I knew I was big but I REALLY didn't want to see those numbers. Why?...I'm not entirely sure, maybe I was trying to extend my stay in fantasyland...I dunno? Today I weighed in at 153lbs. it feels great to have made it this far. Though I'm not ready to celebrate yet...I'm going for 124 lbs. that's 29 more pounds to go. But I know I'll be able to do it, things are so different this time around. I don't feel right if I miss a day at the gym, and I actually find myself craving healthy foods over the junk.

Anyways I'm glad I found this site, there is SO many inspirational members and stories here. I can really see this site being a useful tool for myself. :)

That is so wonderful! Congratulations on the awesome progress you've made so far! :D You're doing an amazing job!

Feel free to stop by the diary section and start your own weight loss diary, it helps a lot. Also a lot of the members here have a ticker that helps track their progress, it's a kind of a fun thing to do with the signatures. :) Anyway, I think you're going to do great here and I know you're going to reach your weight loss goal!

Welcome to the forum!

Hello Stacy, and thank you very much. I did manage to make a ticker from tickerfactory but everytime I tried to post it would say "invalid file" any idea's?

That's odd. Did you try posting the code directly into the signature window?

Wow! You've already come so far! I mean, over 60 pounds? That's incredible! I was planning on celebrating when I hit the 20-pound mark, haha :) I know how you feel about that damn scale. It took me a few weeks too to just get up the courage to get on. I guess I finally figured that knowing won't change the number.
Congratulations on your success! And good look on the rest!

I think I did?...I had copied and pasted the bbcode to my signature window. That's what I needed to do right?

Thanks Rachel!

Ha...here I was thinking I was they only one with this strange confliction with scales. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who does these things. I can see your doing well yourself when did you start your weight loss resolution?

Nice job on getting the ticker to work :) I gave up on it.

I started my "revolution" (love that word) on May 19th, so about five weeks ago. 14 pounds down so far. I'm pretty happy with that, even if 10 of those were water weight :)
I still have to force myself to get on the scale every morning. I dread opening the closet to slide it out. lol
I think I'll be in total shock if I actually make it into the 150's. You're amazing.

Hi Kristen, Well done on your weight loss so far. I started because of a similar story but with a much sadder ending. My mum took ill one morning in July last year and 5 hours later she was gone. I was in bits for months and then decided that for the sake of my family I needed to lose weight and get healthy. I'm exactly the same age as your mother so really need to start to look after myself. I weigh almost exactly the same as you now and want to lose another 10 - 15 kgs. I'm also going to join the gym this week to help get rid of the last few lbs.

Fourteen pounds for five weeks is good, keep it up! lol I was doing the scale everyday but I do seem to fluxuate a bit. This just ended up driving me bonkers! So I now weigh in once a week. My scale and I seem to be on better terms this way.

I think you can get to where you want to be, hold tight to your perseverance and take each day as it comes at you. The longer you stick with this, the easier it becomes. I wish you lots of luck!

Oh wow, Val, I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. I had no idea. I'm really proud of you for taking the reins and bringing yourself to a healthier lifestyle! It takes a lot of determination to turn your life around like that. Your family will definitely thank you for it.

Knowing what you went through in a time when many of us would have just turned to food - but instead you turned your life around - wow, I have a lot of admiration for you! You're such an inspiration! *hugs*

The tracker looks good and it's making me jealous! LOL I wish I could boast that many pounds - but I'm on my way! :D Yay! heheh

Keep up the awesome work!

Thanks, the tracker took some tinkering on my part but I got it. I can see your on your way 27 pounds lost congrats!

You have my sincerest condolences. Stacy's right it really is amazing that you were able to make that change through the grief. Good for you for making the change not only for your family but yourself as well. I think the gym should really send you on your way. :hurray:

Yeah, I'm just over two months into my new lifestyle, so I guess 27 lbs lost isn't too bad. It would be great if I can keep up that level of weight loss. :D Thanks so much for the encouragement!

Dang that's really good! I don't think I was anywhere near 27 pounds for my first two months. What have you been doing?

I've totally changed my lifestyle. I don't eat any junk food and haven't touched fast food in about 6 months. I eat a LOT of fresh fruits and vegetables and a lot of fish and chicken. I don't eat red meat anymore. I think I've eaten pork maybe twice in the past six months. So even before I was trying to lose weight I was still eating healthier. It made a big difference when I finally did start trying to lose weight because since I already started changing my taste-buds to enjoy more of the healthier foods I didn't feel quite so deprived when I started really going at the healthy lifestyle.

I also try and work out 5 times a week. But I find simply walking more has seemed to do the most good as far as helping me drop the pounds. On the days I do a lot of walking I almost always wake up to a pound to 1 and 1/2 pounds lost overnight.
