Figuring this routine out

Ok, I'm a beginner at lifting and working out. Just starting this week. But I don't want to this for no reason with no results. I've read all these sticky's and numerous other links, pages and such. Reading all this stuff is still like reading Greek. I've finally figured out the eating thing. But just trying to figure out what to do is discouraging. After all of this reading I have decided, that me being a beginner, I want to do the fullbody workout. So could someone who has been doing this for a while please help me with an exact routine. At least for the first couple of weeks and I think then I'll have it down. I mean I need help with exact types of excersises, number of reps, number of sets and number of days per week.

I'm really not that dumb, but when I mean exact types of excersises....ie
bench press, military press, squats, curls?????... This is just totally new to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Learn the exercises first before you get into a routine. This directory should have what your looking for: ExRx Exercise & Muscle Directory

Generally, since your starting get on a full-body-workout 3 times a week. Alternate these 2 workouts:

Workout A
Squat
Bench Press
Bent-over-rows

Workout B
Deadlift
Weighted dips
Weighted chinups

Since your just starting, get your technique down perfect first and you will already be ahead. You will definetely get results if you do it right. Its called newbie gains. So take the advice of the knowledgable members here so you can get off to a good start.

Thank you! You just helped me more in 30 seconds than I've done for myself in the last week, and believe me, I've tried. I'll try this starting tomorrow. Thanks again!

Thanks again for your reply. But I just figured something out. I'm overweight and getting old, I don't think I can even do 1 dip or chinup unweighted starting off. Is there any type of excersise that I can do with weights that will give me the same type of results until I can increase my strength enough to do dips and chinups?

Also, so you mean Workout A on Monday for example, and then workout B on Wednesday, Workout A on Friday and then the next week starting back on workout B??

See, I told you I was new and this was greek.

Hey Buddy,

No need to do weighted pull-ups if you can't do them. Start with just your body weight and the more you do the stronger you will get, then the more you will do etc....Once you can do about 15-20 unweighted you might want to think about adding some weight.

And yes, I believe jman means alternate each workout so mon=A, Wed=B, Fri=A, Mon=B

As to alternative exercises to build up initial strength, maybe military press and the cable front pulldown?

Thanks JTM, now I should be good to go for a while. Hopefully, I will see some improvement in the next couple of months.

Not sure if you are working at home or going to the gym, but a lot of gyms also have assisted pullup/dip machines. you could start there, then move to your body weight, then start adding some weight.

Good Luck!!

Agree its a good way to start. I can't do my bodyweight in dips. Today I did 5x5 with 60 pounds of help.

Also, research form, spechally on squats and deadlifts. Search "Technique articles" in this forum, and you should find a post i made where i linked lots of articles about technique on different lifts.
