Fear not for the future, weep not for the past.

Thanks everbody!! Only on for a minute, cuz hubby is rearing to go on the bike ride this morning. Ankle/calf still pains me. Becoming more and more sure it was a bug bite of some kind. If it was a rock or stick that kicked up and hurt this bad it would have bruised.

Got on the scale again (I think it refuses to move until the weekends) and again and again, just to be sure. Yup, moved down another 1 1/2 lbs. So I'm down 2.5 lbs since last Monday. Yay!!

OK be back later.

**robot beeps**
Must go bike ride. Must go bike ride. Must go bike ride.
Malfunction Malfunction

YAYY!!!!!!!! grats on your 2.5!!! That's fantastic!!!! I hope your ankle doesn't give you too much trouble. Keep it up!!!!!

Thanks, everybody for stopping by!!
It's really appreciated.

I have no idea what's going on with the leg. It's still sore, but doesn't sting anymore. Hopefully, it'll go away soon.

So, I kept my calories for the last couple of days around 14-1500 cals. I don't feel like writing them out right now. I'll get back on my bandwagon on Monday.

The bike ride was great yesterday. I love going with my hubby. We went about twice as far as normal. And went out to the lake by our house. I guess it's really not right by our house, it's like 2 miles away.

Then we spent the rest of the weekend going to movies. Before I met the hubby, I really never went to movies. But he's addicted, so we go. I guess there were four movies that came out this weekend that he really wanted to see. The only one that I was adamant on seeing right away was the new Kevin Smith movie, Clerks II. (love love love Kevin Smith) Then we saw The Lady in the Water. That was interesting. Today we saw Monster House and My Super Ex-Girlfriend. Whew, I'm done seeing movies for a while.

Hi I thought that since you are so addicted to the people on here you could give me advice on a diet. What kind of diets do you think work best?

Here's some insight on my personal situation...

My whole life I've been larger and always tried dieting. When I was 17 I became aneorexic and went to about 160. From ge 18-20 I skyrocketed to 325. Now, I'm 23 and around 230. I want to get to 180.

Is there any diet that you've found extrememly helful?

Well, I guess that's all for now. Talk to you soon!

Hope your dieting is going well for you.

Holly:)

Just so you know, I wrote a book. You asked for it. If you'd checked out my diary, you'd see that I'm like this all the time. Oh, to get me started.....

Well..... that's a loaded question. I can tell you what works for me, but it won't necessarily work for you.

For me..... I like to eat. Period, the end. I like the diet where I don't feel like I have to starve myself. So, it's been kind of a trial and error this time around for me.

I cut out soda entirely, with the exception of an occasional sprite. This is for several reasons. #1 would be all the wasted calories in a regular soda. #2 would be all the sodium (which causes bloating) and #3 after I gave up diet soda, I realized it was giving me IBS. And I occasionally miss it, which is when I allow myself one glass of sprite.

The other thing I did was educate myself on food. Since I like to eat and I like to eat a lot, I wanted to find foods that tasted good and that I could eat a lot of.

And that was good old fashioned veggies. However, I discovered at the beginning of my diet that one cannot exist on veggies alone. I felt like a cow grazing on bags of veggies all day and still being hungry. The good part was that I could keep eating the veggies since I was hungry, but I wasn't getting any relief from the hunger.

So then I looked through other people's diaries and they were eating more meat than I was. So then I educated myself on protein. (which you can get from other sources than meat, BTW) So my next step was to incorporate more protein in my diet. That helped a lot in curbing the hunger for longer periods of time. The trick was to choose lean cuts of meat, hence chicken breast, turkey, lean ground beef, beans, lentils.

Then, of course, I'm going through sugar cravings. And, of course, they say you should eat more fruit to combat this. Honestly, I hadn't eaten fruit, except for melons in years. So, here I go again, I educated myself on fruit. Like did you know that one of the few fruits that have fat in it is the banana? Weird. And believe it or not, the fruit killed the sugar cravings. (it helped that it's summer and everythings in season and so thus tastes really good.) And, of course, when I need the chocolate, I buy those chocolate rice cakes.

For me, keeping the food diary and relating my thoughts on how hungry I felt and how full I was after each meal in our diary section really helped. It let me look through at the end of each week and make better choices until I figured out for myself what kept me satisfied the longest. The key word here is satisfied. Not stuffed full. When you're stuffed full, you don't want to move.

It also helped when I found out that it takes 20 minutes before your stomach realizes that you've eaten. So, I would try to take a while to eat. Whatever works for you, taking sips in between each bite. After a while, I realized I wasn't consuming as much food as I used to. I wasn't always able to finish each meal I'd packaged.

Then came the moving part of it. Getting off my butt and burning some calories. I am still really out of shape, but I tried to find something that made me feel good about moving. So I took up bike riding. Other people go for walks, others are into the whole gym thing, others like doing videos. The key is to find something that you're going to want to do. If you don't want to, you not going to. If you don't do it, then you start to give up. If you give up, you're right back where you started. And you don't want that, do you?

So, there you go. That's my rant. If you still want to ask me any questions, feel free. Just be cautious because you'll never know how long they'll be. :D

That's exactly where I'm at.. It's a tough curve to handle!... Hopefully I'll find ONE thing that is fun for a lazy fe**er like me to do... :p

I'm still struggling with finding some activities that I really like to do. I have a terrible social shyness that often keeps me from going outdoors a lot. Though I'm working up the courage slowly to go outside and run :)

You're doing great with the bicycling... I can't believe you saw that many movies though! Wow- lol That's a lot of buttery popcorn temptation

You hit the nail on the head about education. Most of us never knew anything about food....not the calorie content, not the nutrional value etc. But once you become educated about it, eating becomes a whole different ballgame. Great points, manaloa!!!!

And double yay for the loss!!!

Aaaaahhhh another Monday

Pineola: thanks!! :D

Sday: I just tried to remember what I liked to do as a kid. I used to go bike riding for hours. That might help. What did you do as a kid? skip rope? hula hoop? hiking? As long as your moving, it's all good.

Paper Moon: Social shyness is hard to deal with. The only thing I can say is that, do you even remember everybody who you pass on the street? No, probably not. And besides which, you don't even care about these strangers so who cares what they think. If you don't know them, and you don't care about them, then you shouldn't allow them to affect how you feel about yourself. The only person you should allow to have that power is yourself. **gets off soapbox**

Val: I can't believe I sat through that many movies either. I told the hubby that I've done my quota of movies for the next month.

Scarlett: It's amazing that once you educate yourself, how differently you look at what you're putting in your body.

OK, on to food.

This morning I had an egg sandwich with stone ground mustard on two slices of lite whole wheat bread. (221 cals)

I'm finding that I'm having trouble eating as much in the morning. I don't necessarily have this trouble later in the day. Tomorrow I'm going to try one egg with one slice of bread.

For my midmorning snack I had a nectarine (60 cals) and I had made some low fat banana muffins, so I had one of those (130 cals).

For lunch I had 5 tbsp of the lentil salad with 3 melba toasts and a beef brat. (345 cals) and a plum (30 cals)

For mid afternoon snack I had 2 peanut butter and chocolate rice cakes (120 cals)

For supper, I made a turkey stirfry. I chop veggies and stick them in my freezer. So I dumped a handful of celery, a handful of onions, and a big handful of green peppers (love green peppers) Once those thawed a bit in the skillet, I drained some of the water out and threw in some turkey breast from the roast we had last night. Dolloped on some schezuan sauce on it and served it over white rice. (379 cals)

Right now I'm having a lovely juicy peach. Yummmm (68 cals)

Total for the day: 1353 calories
Exercise: 0
I'm really tired right now, have been all day. I'm going to get back on my exercising bandwagon tomorrow morning. I will go for a bike ride!! :D

You're so put together!!! I hope to be as dedicated as you soon.

Thanks for the advice on going out. I really should just not care about any of them out there. I mean... why should I let them dictate what I want to do??? Tomorrow I'm gonna go out for a walk. Thanks so much hon!

Cannon: Thanks for stopping by!!

Paper Moon: I'm gonna hold you to that!! I'll check on your diary tomorrow to make sure you've gone for your walk!!

Well, just got done with a half hour bike ride. Could have gone longer, but the bugs were out in force and after the tenth time choking on some biteme, I figured it was time to head back. Did my weight exercises too. Just the ones dictated on www.sparkpeople.com. Some arms, abs and legs strengthening exercises.

Thanks, for stopping by Twinmom!

Just finished my morning bike ride, 1/2 hour. This morning I decided on an egg with a low carb/fat tortilla wrap. It was interesting. (125 cals)

I have some more bruschetta that I'll have with either veggies or wheat thins. And for lunch I'm going out with friend somewhere. I haven't lost any weight this week and I need to watch what I'm eating more carefully.

I was reading something that I think Scarlett wrote about sodium. So I started checking my sodium intake. Yeah, I'm never going to salt my food again.

Hi Manaloa...yes sodium is EVIL!!!!! Which is sad because I more have a "salty tooth" than a "sweet tooth". And I had a total blow up experience after eating sushi with lots of soy sauce. And get this....I was using the low sodium soy sauce and I still managed to blow up like almost two pounds!!!

You're doing great on your bike rides!!! But don't you wish you could ride in some kind of tent suit to keep away the bugs!! LOL!!!!

Keep it up....You're so close to your six week goal!!!! Good going!!!!
