favorite cardio activity?

I lovelovelove jumping rope. You can do it anywhere, no expensive equipment needed. It is fun! And NOTHING I have tried has done more for my calves and bootie.

I also enjoy running, though this tends to irritate my bunions more than jumping rope does. Both give that most excellent "runners high". I also like the eliptical machine, but don't feel that it gives my heart and lungs the workout that running and jumping rope do.

What are your favorite cardio activities?

I love dancing and the different dance exercise videos. I also love the elliptical machine. They both make me feel great when I am done and they keep me coming back for more.

Does dancing around your living room like a fool count? Cuz I do that a lot... :smilielol5:

I like the elliptical too, but for some reason my toes get numb when I'm on the machine. Doesn't happen when jumping rope or the treadmill... only the elliptical...

for me it is usually the stairmaster or cardio climber, but also spin, pump and Muay Thai classes

My toes used to get numb running on a mini-trampoline, even with my joggers on. I guessed it was due to consistent pressure, like other numbness is. It doesn't happen to me on an elliptical.

My current favourite is an exercise bike because it's gentle on my knees and helps develop the muscles there at the same time.

I have to agree with elliptical trainers! They are great because they allow you to go fast and really get your heart rate up without sacrificing your joints! In fact (along with stretching), I can workout on them without getting sore/stiff. I only recently started exercising again (inactive for a few years), but I can still go fairly hard on the elliptical without hurting myself, which is great. I also love playing games like badminton, ping pong, and racquetball. Not so much because I am good at them, but because I am having fun and an hour can pass quickly before I realize it. Doing sports is a great way to burn calories without really "noticing" the exercise and suffering through your workout.

Someone mentioned sore/numb toes. I know that some ellipticals will do this, especially if they are at home or cheaper models. Why? Because the at-home style ellipticals are much more compact, and the compact platform forces the foot pads to be "steeper". Then, your toes end up pushing against the front of the foot pad section (which can definitely put pressure on your toes. More expensive models, however, are longer so they cause the foot pads to be a lot more perpendicular to your legs. Therefore, there is a lot less pressure on your toes. At least, this is what I have found in my experience with ellipticals.

I really like to use the elliptical at the gym.

However, if I didn't have responsibilities and could do any type of cardio I wanted, I'd go SKIING everyday! I know downhill skiing doesn't burn too many calories but it's so much fun. Water skiing, wakeboarding, windsurfing, volleyball are also superrr fun. I wish I could do it all the time.

Walking is my favorite exercise. Don't like going out in the wet, cold weather though so... I found some old walking videos that I use when the weather is bad. I figure it's something to keep me moving for 30 minutes.

I used to jog many years ago, but that constant pounding got to hurting my knees.

I also enjoyed step aerobics classes years ago too. A broken ankle last year would limit my movement right now.

Closest gym is 15 miles away so my exercise has got to be at home. Can't afford the gas or the expense of a membership.

Favorite? Would have to be sex. Don't underestimate it. Give it a try if you haven't, but don't wear your heart rate monitor. It'll spoil the mood. :smilielol5:

The best when in public? Mountain Biking. It brings the fun of riding a bike back. It's like being a kid again and doing it not for the exercise, but the fun.

Jumping rope I'm real good at, but it's pretty far from fun.

Running, I hate it with a passion, but it does so much for me in the weight loss that I have to keep going.

I started to run again a few months ago and I have to say, I really love it! I used to play basketball years ago and there was constant running, jumping, sprinting. When I stopped playing, I gained a bunch of weight and when I tried playing again last year, it was so depressing to see that I couldn't even run for a minute. So, to be able to run again really means a lot to me. I guess that's why I love it so much. I feel like I'm accomplishing something great.

I also love to dance although I don't get much time to do that lately.
