Fat guy to fit. My journey....Join me

I can feel things getting looser. My wedding ring, and even my shoes, and winter coat fit different. I am LOVING this feeling.

You are all very supportive. I appreciate your comments.

Currently at 3 miles a day, on a treadmill, holding 6 lb weights in each hand, most of the time. It takes about 45 minutes, and is very strenuous.

Made it to the tightest belt hole today, and wore a "Large" shirt. Feeling good. Continuing to eat zero simple carbs, and lots of protein.

I continue to workout, but man, this week has been unusually tough. Both knees, and my back and my ankles have really been painful. Any ideas? I continue to take glucosamine, but it seems to be loosing it's strength or a bad batch of something. It's like my system is not wanting to loose much more. Tonight I did 5 hard miles on the treadmill, man it's tough. I am only 45 and feel like an old man. And yea, my belly still seems big.

Mr BB take care of your knees.... I read .....Every pound of body weight yields five pounds of force on the knee, so even 10 extra pounds can put a considerable load on those joints.

My dad always said loose some weight first before doing too much exercise, but see a doc if it is that sore, you do not want to do any damage.

Be careful if your knees, back and/or ankles are hurting. You should see a doctor to find out if the exercises you are doing are OK or not. You may need to start slower with lower impact stuff until you get more strength in your knees and back. Last thing you want to do is injure yourself while trying to lose weight.

Aquatic aerobics are supposed to be easy on your joints and the resistant you get from the water is really good. Perhaps try an aquatic aerobics class? Or simply go to the pool and do some stuff yourself?

Things are feeling much better, I have gone to 3-4xs a week, and it seems to have made a difference.

My thoughts on the holidays.

Two days ago we had Thanksgiving. I passed up on my favorite foods, and then played some basketball with some family at the local church gym. It was great. I didn't have that tired, sick feeling I used to get when over-eating. It feels great. It was the first time I played basetball fast and furious since I lost all this weight, and it was great. Afterwards, I had some really sore muscles, but I feel fine today.

Neighbors have started delivering holiday treats. Yes, large, cakes, pies, and pumpkin rolls. I am avoiding the kitchen much more than ever before. I now have started to really like the treadmill workouts by watching Netflix. I have been watching multiple episodes of Alias with Jennifer Garner. One tough chick. If you like action, and want your workout to go by fast, start watching this netflix show, originally on network TV. It's great.

Well, I didn't get my November goal of 218, but I am still losing weight slowly. At least I'm not gaining. I have continued to eat right, and not eat sugar or Milk or breads. I am about 224, which means I might modify my goal to 5 lbs a month, until I reach my goal.

I had quite a few comments at Thanksgiving, "wow, how much weight have you lost?" and "good work, looking good". It feels great.

Hello, it's been a stressful week, but I continue to eat right, and minimize my bad habits. I am now eating some greek yogurt after hearing it's very good for you, and has good protein, and Vitamin A. It comes in 100 calorie servings, and I eat one for lunch, and one for breakfast. I have been eating a 30Gram protein bar in between meals, so I don't get too hungry. It seems to satisfy, and keep me from getting too hungry.

I have been working out in the evenings, usually 3 evenings a week, for longer distances. I am on the treadmill for about 1.5 hrs. Im not gonna lie, it's HARD in the cold winter days to continue to eat right, and work out, but my weight is still, slowly coming off.

I played basketball again with some younger guys, and I didn't embarrass myself too bad, in fact had a couple blocked shots, and made a couple 3 pointers. I posted a photo of me shooting a 3 at our local church gym. (All our churches have basketball courts).

I will try to post that picture here.View attachment 21579

I modified my goal to 5 lbs a month, and my current weight is 221 down from 268 in June. Thanks for your support everybody. It helps!

For the first time in my life, I have made it through the holidays and did not eat poor choices on food once. This is a huge step for me when it comes to my diet discipline. I normally eat pumpkin pie, or some type of sweets, and this year I made it completely through without ANY cheating. I would snack on nuts, cheese, or yogurt usually, while other family members enjoyed ice cream, candy, and eclairs.

It feels awesome. I am on my way to the big milestone of 50 LBS, which I should hit some time in January.

I have started playing basketball one night a week, while trying to do treadmill work at least 2 other times. I know it should be more regularly, but it's tough.

For Christmas I got more workout clothes, and they look and feel great. It's amazing how good this feels. (Of course I feel inspired to write in this log on days when I just got off the treadmill, and am super pumped up.)

Now, I need advice on some good exercise shoes. Is there a particular brand or type of shoe people use? I have just about worn out my favorite shoes, and even got new insoles. I am using cross trainer shoes by Saucauny.

Good job on the good eating choices!! Better than I did for sure!

As for the exercise, 3 times a week is not too shabby, especially if you go hard during those times.

As for shoes I'm probably no help. I have New Balance ones that seem good but I dunno. Perhaps simply going to a sports shop and asking is best? They should know what to look for in a shoe based on what you are doing for exercise. If you are just walking I suspect a different shoe would be needed compared to sprinting or basketball.

SETBACKS!!! This week has been tough. I don't know if it's the weather, diet, sleep, stress, but my joints are hurting, like my back, knees, elbows and ankles. I only worked out one day this week, and it's been really hard. I talked to the pharmacist asking about the best dose/brand of Glucosamine, and he directed me to the best one. I feel a little better, so I plan to get back to normal next week. I have felt more cravings too. It's like my body is rejecting my plan. Maybe my plan is flawed.

I am continuing to eat one or two eggs each morning around 6 (Which is when I take my supplements, multi vitamin, glucosamine, and fish oil pills). A 100 Calorie Greek yogurt about 9, and another yogurt or protein bar around 12. That's about 350 calories. I get off work at 2, and sometimes get a double down on the way home, yea it's high in fat, and lots of protein, but low in carbs, and staves off my appetite until dinner, which usually consists of a protein source such as cheese/meat option, and a green salad, side of cooked veggies, and maybe another yogurt/protein bar before bed. I need to mix it up more, any ideas?

I may not hit my 50 lb goal this month, but at least I am steady. Got new pants for Christmas, and their are 36, and feel loose.

Thanks,
BigBelly (But getting smaller) :)

Your plan is not flawed, your body just needs to get used to the change. It is trying to get back to the old status quo while you are trying to create a healthier one. Keep going and things will get better. If the cravings get really bad give in JUST A LITTLE to calm them. It has helped keep me from binging and feeling completely deprived. Also before I treat myself I try to ensure I have done everything else right that day: worked out, drank lots of water, eaten healthy.

You seem to be on a good path and are steadily making progress, keep it going :)

TREADMILL WOWES!
I bought a new TV for the treadmill, watching Netflix on my small phone started to get old. I consider it an investment in my health. Now the TV is fantastic, I plugged in a Google Chromecast, so I can watch Netflix and other online programming.

The issue is being shocked by my earphones. When watching from my phone, no problems with static electricity at all. To reduce the disruption and noise, I got a 20 foot extension for the TV, the headphone extension plugs directly into the TV, and it goes to the treadmill. Any ideas?

As for the diet and exercise, it's going well. Staying strong, sticking to avoiding simple carbs, and trying to eat healthy protein. Feeling good. Eating right and exercise is the worlds best antidepressant.

It's been a few weeks, and yes, I have gained some lbs back after being sick. I had a bad cold, sounding like a seal when coughing, but pretty much am over it. I did a treadmill workout yesterday and Friday, so it's back on track.

For the first time since June I ate some popcorn. Yes, I know, it had salt and butter. It was bad, and pretty much off my new lifestyle plan, but ....

On a positive note, I took my belt for my church clothes, and regular jeans and my belt was at the tightest it goes, a good sign.

I had a life insurance physical Friday, so hopefully I did all right. They told me because I lost so much weight in this last year, it would be a bad sign....and the cost would be higher.

If you are on a track to lose weight, keep it off for 1 year before your life insurance physical, so when they ask you if you have gained or lost lots of weight in the past year, you can say, "No", with a smile on your face knowing you are doing great.

Good luck everyone.

Hello, it's been a while. I started a new job, and have not been as diligent as I need to with regular workouts, however, I have maintained my eating discipline, and maintained my weight.

I have been hitting the treadmill 1-2 times a week, and some basketball at the local gym. It's tough.

I got an email from the system, telling me I hadn't posted in a while, it's good to get those reminders.

So, I am continuing to consume basic foods found on the Paleo diet, with my own twist. My twist includes all fresh fruits and vegetables, thinking what could be wrong with those? I avoid simple carbs, and consume protein when hungry, as long as it has higher protein grams than carbs, I consider it acceptable.

I am feeling better, but I am not at my target weight, so most of my clothes are baggy. I bought some jeans that are a little tight, and I stopped wearing them due to pain.

Good luck fellow weight loss friends. It can be done.

Rant...

I am 46, and feel like I am in pain. Energy levels are nearing an all time low. I am continuing to eat zero simple carbs, but feel like my energy and overall fatness is staying the same.

Yea, I have lost 50 LBS since June of 2013, but I am wondering how I can maintain this.

I have been trying to play basketball with some younger whipper snappers. (did I just say that). I played last night and they kicked my butt. I have bruises and pain everwhere, I am wondering if it's worth it.

It's harder and harder to get a workout in.

I am still in a size for which I have very little clothes. My shirts are all XXL, and I really need to fit into an XL, and will buy some as I stabilize.

How is everyone doing? Am I posting in a forum with no readers? I used to get comments, and now, I feel like I am alone.

1 Year exactly and I am down 50 lbs. I have endured a new job, stress with children's medical issues, and still been able to maintain my weight loss for about 6 months.

I lost almost all of it in the first 6 months, then started to slack on sleep, exercise, and proportions. I have continued to avoid any sugar, and simple carbs, but eat fresh fruits, vegetables, and meats. It seems to be working to maintain.

I need to be more regular in my daily exercise. It's too easy to avoid it, then really hard to get back into it.

I am very happy with loosing 50 pounds, and will keep at it. Maintaining this weight loss is the key.

I have browsed others diaries and you are all amazing. Keep up the good work.

I am 66 lbs lighter than I was in 2008, but I have been up and down with 20 of it. I hope you can get your exercise going here is a quote that I put on my thread to help motivate you:

Those who think they have not time for bodily exercise will sooner or later have to find time for illness.” ~Edward Stanley

Good luck!
