Erin's Diary xoxo

Hey girlie!! You're doing fantastic!! You're diet is really great! I think it's great that you're trying to go meatless- it's a hard thing to do, but TOTALLY worth it!!

Let me know if you pick up the DVD- I would love to know how it is! I just started watching that show, and she gets results on there- so I wonder how it works!! :)

Have a fantastic weekend!!

Thank you :) Yeah doubtful I can do meatless all the time - love my chicken and fish - I dont' really do much red meat, but I figure maybe a day or two during the week would be good - makes me try and find creative and healthy ways to get my protein in (well so far that's just eggs and nuts but it's a start haha).

I ended up picking up Jillian Michaels - Banish Fat Boost Metabolism and the Biggest Loser Cardio Max so I'll take a try and them this weekend. If i like it I'll probably go back for 30 min shred or whatever that one is that I keep hearing about. I popped into a dvd store on my lunch today at work too and saw sooo many different ones I wanted to try them all haha - especially the dancing ones :p One at a time I guess ;)

So I went salt crazy today so probably retaining a heck of a lot of water, but I'm not too worried. I do my weigh ins once a week, some are better than others but I feel so much better and I know that if I keep at it I'll keep getting better so I'm not too worried if it's a lot less of a loss this week :)

February 25, 2011
- weight watchers whole grain flat bun with 1.5 tbsp peanut butter
- 3 pretzels twists with 1/2 tsp peanut butter
- whole grain flat bun with teeny tiny bit of fat free crm cheese and tomato onion tuna
- half a medium tomato, sliced and a handful of baby carrots
- one low cal yogurt
- sushi dinner - small miso soup, spicy tuna roll (6 pc) (I was gonna get something better, but this one is my baby at this place, it's so so good and they don't use much mayo, just loads of hot sauce, tekka maki (6 pc)

So I'm super bloated from all my peanut butter, pretzels, tuna and sushi/soy sauce, but that's no big deal. I'll chug some water tonight and be more careful tomorrow ;)

My sister is coming over soon so I'm gonna see if I can sneak in maybe 30-45 min on the gazelle because I know I"ll be too tired after she leaves to do any working out :p We'll see... - scratch that she's on her way now! lets hope I can get something in after she leaves tonight!

So I decided not to do my weigh in this week. I ended up waaaaay over doing the salt and even have some chickpea/feta salad late last night and only doing 15 min on the gazelle and 25 min or so of a video (forgot how bad my knees were :() and I felt just awful when I woke up today so I don't want to derail myself if I've gained with bloat or water weight so I'm going to hold it off a few days or just wait until next week.

Bit nervous for this coming week because I have a lot of dinners out and lunches. I'm ok planning around one or so during the week but multiple days makes it hard to balance my week out. Also gives me waaay less time to fit in work outs - but I'll do my best I guess.

February 26, 2011
- weight watchers whole grain flat bun with 1/2 tbsp low fat mayo and sliced tomato
- scrambled egg beater (1 cup) with 1/4 cup light mozza-cheddar and 3 tbsp salsa

Definitely need to load up on water today and get in some good exercise and hope I start to feel less salty and awful :(

- whole grain flat bun with peanut butter
- low cal yogurt
- whole grain wrap with laughing cow cheese
- then I ate more candy than I def should have (arggg I'm not sure what I was thinking - I was just feeling blahh and snowed in and I dunno... but guess just gotta get back on the horse and keep going)
* 1 hour on gazelle

February 27, 2011 so far
- special k with low cal yogurt
- haddock fillet with broccoli and green beans
- off to my parents for dinner tonight - hopefully mom doesn't put out her usual appies and has a dinner I can work with *fingers crossed!* I just have to remember that if it's not great for me food that small portions and lots of veggies is ok :)

I have to realize that not all weeks are going to go well and I just have to keep at it and eventually I will get results. Some weeks will be less/no loss and heck if I'm gaining muscle I may even go up but as long as I'm doing my best with healthy eating and exercise I can't go wrong :) It can just be frustrating when I feel I'm doing things right and it's not going the way I want... grrr.

Yay I feel a bit better about this week (was supposed to go out for a lot of lunches and dinners and was a bit nervous about it). I just found the menu for the restaurant on Thursday (it's a pasta restaurant... and usually I'd get a baked penne with chicken and cheese (bad bad ;)) But I see they have a fire roasted chicken dinner (yums) and some great side dishes (zuchinni and stuff) so I'll be fine.

Pub night this week but I think it's a bit later for the hockey game so if I eat a good dinner before I can have a beer at the pub (instead of wings or a burger there - though I always split the burger with my friend so it's not too bad).

Just hoping my other friend picks a good place for lunch this week where I can make a good choice and then things should be ok.

I find sometimes the thought of having to go out to eat (when I don't know the menu or if they have smart choices) gives me a bit of anxiety, and then I feel worse that it makes me so nervous (it so shouldn't!) I think it's just because I'm still starting out. I just hate the feeling of not knowing what's in some dishes. All those articles where you find out a so called healthy sandwich or salad ends up having more calories than your entire day... scary stuff!

But I'll learn to figure it out :)

Looking good Arianna!
When I don't feel like going to the gym or going on the treadmill it's so easy to pop in a dvd - I have the BL cardio Max and 30 day shred dvd and I love them both. Currently I'm doing the 30 day shred level 1 and 2 when I can and it really kicks your butt! I have a bunch of them and I used to do them a lot before I got my gym membership and now I just have too many options to incorporate them all but the nice thing is they never go bad so you can go back to them whenever you need a change.
I know what you mean about anxiety and eating out. I wish all menus had the nutritional info right beside the food description - it would make things a lot easier! It would be easy if the salad was always the healthy option but as you've seen it can be the complete opposite - not fair!
Keep it up and have a great healthy week!!

You're doing so well.
I love how interesting and varied your diet is.
What's your favourite snack?

How are you finding the Jillian Michaels dvds? I definitely recommend her 30 Day Shred one. It only takes 20 minutes, so it's great if you're busy and want results quickly.

You are changing habits so it will take a bit :) before you know it you will be a total pro at this! Also I realized the stuff I get from cheesecake factory ends up being 3000 calories LOL insane!

You are getting to where you want to be everyday! I always feel like if you are better then you were the year before.. then you know you are doing good :) That also means in a year from now if you keep it up you will be a lot better too! Definitely always make me feel more positive about things when I think in the long run! Hope you are doing fabulous :)

Oh I totally understand the anxiety!! It's hard when you and your friends are use to socializing over food and drinks!! I've started looking at menus before hand, like you did, and picking stuff out! But sometimes it's sooooo hard!! Oh and the booze...THE BOOZE! I just can't help myself when I go out! Wine is just too damn good :)

Hehe

You are very wise chica! You're so right about having good and bad weeks! And I think it's important to not dwell on them, but just keep working towards the goal! I know when I went away I binged on so much junk, and i didn't exercise...but I made sure that when I came back, i didn't stop trying to eat healthy and work out- it was harder, but I'm getting back to it!!

I like to think that every healthy choice I make is getting me to my goal! I might not see the result today, or tomorrow, but in the long run- i'll see it! Just like you will! You're doing a fantastic job with the diet and exercise!! it takes motivation and dedication to keep that up! And girlie, you're doing it with such a positive attitude!!

Have a fantastic week! :)

Yeah I think it'll be nice to have some variety when I just don't feel like heading outside or clunking away at the gazelle/elliptical plus it can't hurt to mix things up. I ended up getting the BL Cardio Max and the Jillian Banish Fat Boost Metabolism videos but I think I'm going to go back and get 30 Day Shred as well as a lot of you seem to like it, and for those days where I don't have an hour + it would be nice to still have something to kick my butt in gear . I was just saying i wish all menus had an option of viewing the nutrition (well not always - sometimes you just need to enjoy a meal), but it would be nice to be able to at least steer myself in the right direction haha) Thanks for your comments - hope you have a great week as well! :D

you already look gorgeous! Good luck on your journey!

Thanks so much P4P!! That's so nice of you :)

Man snacks are just anything I can fit in my daily calories that will fill a craving (or just fill me up). If I'm actually looking for a good protein type food I love a hard boiled egg or just some tuna (with lemon and pepper) but I also like low cal yogurts, sugar free jellos and special k bars. But I'm also just as content to sit with a bowl of blueberries and munch away. Just like my diet, my snacking is pretty varied too - then I don't get bored and I cut my cravings easier (like having a bit of parm on a broiled tomato to ease that cheesy craving)

So far I really like the JM DVD - it was easy on my knee (darn it!) and I was really sweating near the mid-end so I know it was doing something at least! I didn't know much about her before this but I really did like the video and I'm looking to get 30 day shred next I think.

Thanks Tally :D haha yeah one day I'll be able to pin point exactly what to get and what's awful haha. I was fiddling with a nutrition calculator one day to one of my fav restaurants and wow was I going nuts with one dish Yikes!! At least I could figure out ways to make it a bit better next time - but it was still scary lol

Great advice too - I'm definitely better than I was last year, heck I'm doing better than I was two months ago and if I keep at it I can only get better - especially with all you great people here to help me along :) Hope you have a great week as well!

haha oh the Booze - I've been known to plan my Saturday calories around my nights out - which are luckily only about every other weekend right now, but still those drinks add up and I know realistically I'm not going to cut them out. Lucky for me I like vodka/soda with lemons but after a long night of about 5 or 6 doubles - oops :p I've been doing better not drinking during the week (unless it's the occasional pub night or out for dinner then a beer or one small glass of wine is cool) but it was a hard habit to give up. Nightly beer or wine was just what I did before.

Yeah its definitely hard to move past the bad weeks -but I figure if I keep going it's not like I'll start going backwards - a little stall and I'll be back chugging along again That's exactly how I"m thinking lately when I feel frustrating things aren't going as fast as I'd like that in the long run I'll definitely see the results and it will all be worth it :D I'm addicted to your positive attitude as well :p hehe

Hope you're having a fantastic week as well - I'm not sure how I'd be doing all this still without you guys - this place really is amazing aww :grouphug:

Also here's the rest of my food from yesterday (dinner at my parents) and today's food :)

Feburary 27, 2011 - cont...
- salt and pepper peanuts - just a handful, considering it's usually some sort of dip or cheese I was glad it was just some peanuts
- lean roast beef - not a fan of roast beef but my mom had some nice little thin-lean slices there just for me
- 3 potato wedges
- cooked carrots and asparagus (sprinkle of parm)
- Yorkshire pudding (I haven't had these in years - luckily it was a cute small baby one - yums!)
- strawberries and blueberries with 1/3 cup fro yo/sherbet
*50 ish minutes workout DVD & 30 min gazelle + 60 various crunches/ab work

So more than I would probably usually eat for dinner but not as bad as I thought it was going to be - I was hoping for a salad and not potatos AND bread but what can you do ;) free dinner!

February 28, 2011
- reduced sugar oatmeal with handful of blueberries and sliced strawberries
- weight watchers whole grain flat bun with tsp of fat free cream cheese and sundried tomato tuna
- half a tomato, sliced and baby carrots
- one low cal yogurt
- special k fruit crisp
- cup of broccolli with hot sauce (I dunno, I was craving the hot sauce haha)
- smart ones chicken/carrot type dinner, I forget which one, thai chicken noodle or something.
* so far one hour on gazelle - if my knee is happier I'll try some dvd maybe - but it's killing me today :( ** so no dvd - but killed myself on that gazelle and did 50 crunch/ab work exercise and 15 of those weird pushups for the underarm bingo flappies ;)

and I'll probably have a snack and some point. I made some frozen yogurt pops out of my low cal yogurts and they are pretty darn tasty, low calorie and take a while to eat so they totally kill most sweet/creamy cravings I get at night! ** ended up having half a banana with a bit of peanut butter - mmmm :)

Blech :( I feel awful tonight - For a while watching what I ate/not overeating and exercising was helping my tummy issues but not so much today. I didn't even eat anything out of the ordinary so guess it just happens. blarg :(

I was supposed to go to Pub Night with friends tonight for the Hockey game so I was going to take a day off from my workouts (I haven't had a full day off from it in a while - I always do at least something). No one ended up going so I stayed home - but I think I may take that rest day anyway. Hopefully the sick feeling will go away. I'm gonna try some peppermint tea and see if that helps. I guess Rest days now and then might be a good idea too - I dunno I'm torn...

On the plus side when I went to my parents for dinner the other night my mom said I was shrinking when I saw her :) I usually see her every weekend but last week we were mostly just sitting across at a table so it's the first time she's seen me in a bit I guess so that was nice and I ran into a lady from the bank by my house that I hadn't seen in a year or so and first thing she said to me was 'wow you lost weight!' (she's apparently very blunt haha) but it was still nice to hear that people are noticing the little changes and the hard work is paying off a bit :D

Anyways... here's food from today. I'm also trying to up my calories just a bit. I was doing pretty bare minimum for a bit - not really intentionally just what I was choosing so now I'm gonna try and sneak things like nuts and fruit in there and not worry so much about the extra calories. If it keeps me going then it's good stuff and hopefully I can bowl over this mini-plateau I seem to be on :p

March 1, 2011
Breakfast
- weight watchers whole grain flat bun with 1.5 tbsp peanut butter
Snack
- light rye wasa cracker with light laughing cow cheese
Lunch
- mini whole grain wrap with 3 slices turkey, cut grape tomatoes, and tzatsiki sauce
- baby carrots, snow peas and a few grape tomatoes with leftover dip
- 5 pickle slices - there was a lunch today in the office for the lawyers and everyone went for the left over sandwiches and cookies and I just grabbed a few pickle slices ... mostly because I LOVE these pickles from this particular place soooo yums!
Snack
- handful of mixed nuts (mostly almonds and a few cashews)
Dinner
- smart ones turkey dinner
- yam oven fries seasoned with chipotle/garlic/salt and pepper (maybe half a small yam - I just wanted to try making them)

I feel pretty icky so I probably wont attempt anything else unless it's the other half my banana or an sugar free apple sauce. I might try 30 min on the gazelle or I might take a break.

What are your guys thoughts on rest days? Necessary or just another day I could be fitting in a workout?

Awesome that people are noticing!! That always feels great :) Motivates me even more! I personally feel if you have the desire to do something on your rest day go for it! But try not to do so much you can't go to the gym for a week lol but I don't think they are bad.

Sometimes we get so busy its nice to just laze around and do nothing lol So I would say its however you feel! My rest day is on a day where I just can't imagine adding in exercise. The other days are busy but I have the time to workout.

Hope you are doing well :) Bet you are getting a teensy excited about your vegas trip! I would be lol

Thanks Tally :) I'm just a bit more than teensy excited haha! We're meeting next weekend to discuss what we all want to do and all that fun stuff so that will pump me up even more :D and feeling a lot better today thanks!! I ended up taking that rest day - it was much needed.

Instead I hit the bubble bath with my laptop and an episode of csi (well not IN the tub but glad laptops are portable ;)) and then watched an episode of Full House in bed before crashing with a heating pad -so glad I didn't push myself.

March 2, 2011
Breakfast
- reduced sugar apples and cinnamon oatmeal with blueberries
Snack
- 3 pretzels
Lunch - went out for lunch with friends. I wanted turkey but they ran out :( so I just stuck with veggies and switched the cream cheese for that yummy grainy mustard. The bread was delicious fresh bread - not whole grain but you can't win them all ;)
- veggie sandwich (tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber and grainy mustard) with side of celery
Snack
- one hershey kiss
- half handful of caramel corn
Dinner
- fresh shrimp "tacos" - basically small shrimp that I mixed with chopped avocado, lime and lemon juice, fresh salsa, and cilantro in 2 mini whole grain wraps - deeeelicious (well if you like shrimp they would be - I want to try corn tortillas next time)
- whole grain cracker with hummus (between workouts to keep going)

* I did 50 or so minutes of Jillian Michaels Banish Fat Boost Metabolism and 1 hour on the gazelle - with a break in the middle as well as 75 various ab crunch/workouts. I'm beat but I feel pretty good actually yay!

Good job!! That sounds like a good day of eats and exercise :) You are gonna look so fab in all the Vegas pics!!

Hey Erin :)

Isn't it just a lovely feeling when our loved ones see us shrinking and comment on it?! It's like, "It's really working! My hard work is paying off!" Congrats on the 19.8lb loss. That's amazing!!!

Rest days are good for the body. It lets it rest. Your body isn't a machine so it needs some rest! I usually take 1 day a week.

You're doing a phenomenal job so far :) Your eating looks spot on AND you're getting your workouts in. You go girl!
