Enough bulk!

Ok guys I need help.
I put on bulk very easily and over the last year I have built big pecs, back, arms, shoulders and quads.
Ive got to a size now where I don’t want to get any bigger.
I want to lose body fat.
Iam sick of just being able to feel my abs and not being able to see them properly through that layer of body fat.
Iam starting to add a lot more cardio to my routine. Am going on 30-45mins runs and have started using the rowing machine and cross trainer in my gym.
Also Iam trying to eat less calories (trying to drop to about 2000 calories from 3000).
As far as weights are concerned what should I be doing? Everyones heard of the high weight low reps = bulk and the low weights high reps = toning myth. True or false?

toning is a myth. Diet will be key here. Id do some heavy lifting to preserve muscle mass, but i wouldnt neglect the higher reps either, read around, theres alot of posts here about cutting.

First off, make sure thats a gradual decrease in calories or your body is going to go into starvation mode and start hanging onto fat for dear life. Think about it, muscle is metabolically demanding, fat is not, which is your body more likely to drop in this situation?

I'm a big fan of high intensity cardio for cutting fat via increasing EPOC. Here's a I put together based on my findings, you may wanna consider this as opposed to the cardio you are doing now.

ive started cutting too and I aswell put a lot of muscle mass on over the past year. I took my workout from mostly 5X5s to 3X10s and I heard doing cardio AFTER a workout (on the same day) will not interfere with muscle recovery as much as doing cardio on a non-lift day. I think the 3X10s work fine for me I noticably have been losing fat and I think I am retaining some muscle even though my ability to lift seems to have been crippled a bit by the cut. Best of luck to you though.

Yeah I heard that cardio after you lift is good but I do not have that much spare time to spend in the gym.
I usually lift for an hour plus do by the time I hit the showers and walk out the gym its after 8pm.
Thats interesting on the high intensity cardio. Ive always been told that you want to run (do cardio) at fat burn pace. Basically you want to run at a speed where you are just out of breathe and not run like mad as that can burn muscle tissue?
Ive started using Glutamine also as Ive been told its good to stop muscle breakdown.

exellent article,and i agree.

but most HIITvss-cardio type studies/discussions etc all seem to use low to moderate ss-cardio,and the fatburning effects of the HIIT are by far more than the ss-cardio.
but what in your opinon would be the difference between HIIT and high intensity ss-cardio,do you think the difference would be still the same.
BTW not looking for a :boxing_smiley: just interested in your opinion.:)
