Energy.

I've searched but didn't find anything along these lines, unless I did it wrong? But...

I have the HARDEST time getting off my butt to exericse. It's more contributed to my wonky sleeping patterns and not getting enough sleep and my body just trying to limp by. BUT..thats not really my question or problem.

In general, I always hear that exercise makes people more energetic.

My question is:

When you exercise, they say it's something like 2 weeks to 21 days (depends who you ask) before you get into the groove of exercising. Obviously you have to push yourself, it's not gonna be easy and you'll wanna give up at times. But, is there REALLY a point where you get more energetic and arnt just "blah tired" afterwards? Is it due to weightloss or is it due to just getting used to exercising? I guess part of my question is, does weight loss cause energy spikes or does exercising cause energy spikes? I'm sure they work hand in hand, but does one work over the other?

I've always been curious about this and my Mom and I were discussing this and she was saying how when she was in her early 20's, she used to exercise alot and such, and never felt that energy that a lot of people talk about. Do some people never feel it?

Sorry my post is kinda..all over the place. But I tend to type and work things out at the same time in my typing so its not always so cut and dry!

Regarding motivation to exercise:
I think you need to find a type of exercise that you really enjoy.
For me, going to the gym and getting on a treadmill does nothing for me, I find it incredibly boring and blaaah.
However, I LOVE taking my dog for walks, bushwalking, rock climbing, surfing, swimming, body boarding, kayaking.. etc so I do fun stuff instead!

I think you will only stick to something if you like doing it.

When I am more active I feel more energised. (not going to the gym, doing fun outdoorsy stuff)

When I am inactive I feel like crap.

I always wanted to go hiking! I'm itching to do it, but no one ever wants to go with me. =( N I dont trust the hiking areas around here by myself..too many crazy rapist/killer types have been reported.

That makes sense tho. And I guess, when looking forward to the exercising you're more apt to wanna do it.

I knw when I was in public school, our gym classes. I dreded running around for 15mins straight, but when we actually did something like play basketball/tennis/etc I was more ready and rarring to go!

there's a site called exercisefriends.com - where you can find people with similar interests as yourself to do activities with (they are not a dating site - you might get lucky and find someone in your area)

if not - with your friends.. say on XXX date -I AM going to go hiking - please come with me -give them a specific date and specific time frame and I'd bet someone would want to go - otherwise it's that lameass - let's do lunch and unless you set a specific event - it will never happen.

Check your area for team sports you can join - there are a lot of leagues ot there - softball, basketball, volleyball for adults of all fitness levels... Or - volunteer your time and coach the rugrats in a sport...

yeah, it kinda has to be something fun that you look forward to ... but after time everthing will get boring so you have to constantly switch things up.

I would recommend looking into some form of Martial Arts.

Wicked good fun, lots of exercise, great way to relieve stress, and I've found that most of the people who go are there for similar reasons i.e lose weight, get fit..

I was always worried that it would be a bunch of beefcake dickheads trying to prove who's the bigger man...and even though some places probably are like this...its so much more than that.

And in regards to whether or not I feel good after exercise? Yes and No..physically im knackered, mentally Im happy, for some strange reason!!! But there are times...very occaisonally..that I dont feel tired, and feel like I could run for miles...

p.s You would also be able to defend yourself from crazy Hiking killers/rapists ;)

:seeya:

I was in kung fu a couple years back...I had a blast doing it! I got to meet new people, learned to better my body and my mind, learned some chinese and lost a fair amount of weight (though that was mostly due to the fact that I didn't really eat all too much...i was so bad then lol)
