hey guys...ok...so I've been doing some thinking and I want to check in with all of you and get your opinion on what/how I'm doing with my weight loss

I sent this message to a friend to get their advice, but since you guys know a lot about weight loss I wanted to get feedback. By the way feedback from all is wonderful...but if I could also get some feedback on girls in my cal range or lower that have/are losing weight that would be great!

I currently weigh in at 154 lbs and want to go down to 130. I want to lose about 2 lbs per week and am burning about 400-900 cals per day (almost every day of the week). I am doing strength training through yoga and a bit of cardio too.

My cal intake for the past month has been at 1000-1200 cals per day (with the occasional 1/week at 1800 cals). I am worried that I may be harming my metabolism, but I am also worried that if I up my cal intake to 1500 I will slow down my weight loss. I want to lose the 24 lbs by the end of May--do you think this is possible? and if so/not do you think I should up my cal intake???

-I think my weight loss this week is slowing down. I want to make the most out of my metabolism because i am working out so damn hard. do you think I should up my cals and also up my workout....i am so confused!!! help!!

Howdy FS,
I have heard from everyone when you get stuck
at a certain weight is too add some calories and maybe switch up your
exersice routine.Goodluck girl you will do it,Tammy:)

Even if you up your calories to 1600 a day, with your exercise, you can still lose over a pound week. I'm not sure about exercise though, as I'm not very knowledgable about that side of it. Going to have to do some research :D Play around with it for a week, see what happens. :)

I am not reading diaries today, so I hope you had a great day! i didn't and have a lot to get done, so that's why I am just rushing through.

Thanks for stopping by my diary!
As far as your weight loss, I would try upping your cals to around 13-1500 cals and incorporating a heavy dose of weight training. Weight training has the added benefit of not only making you look better but helps you burn more calories even when you're not working out.

WHen you get near your goal just gradually bring the calories up by eating more fibre - your metabolism should adjust accordingly and your weight loss slow down.
By the time you hit goal you should be weet as :)

Ok I have been reading up on this… If you are just eating 1200 and are burning on average 650 during exercise and that is not including the calories that body burns during normal activities, you body is going to conserve its food supply i.e. fat deposits. I agree with Wishes about uping the calories by adding fiber… I would try eating multiple small meals a day (like 6) make sure to get some lean meats, fruits and veggies. Your body don’t know that you are trying to lose weight… it just knows it is not getting enough fuel.

I looked up what calories you need to maintain your weight and it is at ~2300-2400, so to lose a pound you need to cut back/burn 3500 calories. So lets say that you cut 500 calories and exercise off 500 calories a day, then you could still eat 1800… So 1200 is really, really low. I think you are doing really great on your exercise already but I do think you should eat a bit more cuz you are working out so hard. Here is a calculator that I found ACS :: Calculate Your Daily Calorie Needs

But you are doing great!! You are so focused and determined!! I really admire how dedicated you have been to your exercise regime!

You will meet your goal in no time.

Michelle

Ok, i dont know alot, however, I sat at a slump for 2 weeks straight , slowing gianing or staying the same...once i started eating more, I went from 1200 - 1300 to abt 1600 - 1700 I have been slowing loosing weight for the last week or so...Ive lost 1.2 lbs since I made this change...trail and error, gotta figure out what works for you...I am alot heavier than you as well, but I am on the go non stop and have a physical job...the more active you are the more you need to put in to get results as far as I understand...you'll figure it out...

One of the things Steve said was that when you increase your calories, it should be done kind of slowly, so you don't go from eating 1000 k/cals a day to eating 1500.

Gradually up the calories, by 5-10% over the course of time. Leigh had mentioned adding about 50 k/cals a day for a week or two, then upping them again until you're metabolism settles out.

Hey girlie, I pretty much agree with everyone else about the upping the calories thing. I need to listen to that advice as well.:)

Let us know how it works for you if you try it.

hey guys, i like what M2M said about the gradual increase. This is my first week of "changing it up!" goals for this week are:

1) every day at lunch do min. 2 miles on the treadmill (eventually get up to running 30-40 mins straight!) I have heard from many people that to truly lose weight I should run. I haven't really been utilizing the elliptical very well, it was more of a VERY easy and light cardio work out....and that was the only workout i had been getting so...TO THE TREADMILL!!!

2) up my cal intake +50 per day this week...then level it off.

3) get about 6-8 cups water per day (this one is a must because i cant seem to get rid of my salt intake!!).

4) to get those extra cals in my diet by fiber!! that means veggies!!!

Good morning! tuesday looks great from here, so hope you have a good tuesday (whenever it may come)

its awesome that you found that plan. i need to do that for myself. I should start running too. it would be good for me. I bet it will work for you. i have always sucked at running. especially in elementary school. Maybe i can build up endurance!

:) Howdy Fs,
Loooks good let me know how it works I may try
it to for myself.I hate the treadmill and have been trying my eliptical
for 25 min a day and every other day switch it up with the treadmill.
Goodluck and let me know how it goes, have a nice day Tammy

so i got on the treadmill today and did abut 25 mins of running...boy...i gotta tell ya my body is tired! WHICH IS GREAT! i know i needed to be reminded that it SHOULDNT be easy to workout, it takes effort which is what i finally put back into it...even though i only burned about 250 cals on the treadmill i still feel like my workout was way more intense. hopefully this week will break me out of the horrible pleatuea/gain i went through...i think i may be up to 155...need to get a grip! also...i didnt do any workouts this weekend...felt ill...but i'm back on track now.
