Embarrassing question...

I'm 20, and have really never struggled with acne on my face. However, the last couple of years, I have had MAJOR breakouts on my back and shoulders. It's the only place on my body that has zits, and I can't figure out why or how to get rid of it. I am really clean, but no amount of extreme cleanliness seems to make it go away. Do y'all know of any useful methods or products I can try?

I used to be embarrassed to take my shirt off around people because I was overweight, but now I'm 8% body fat and I'm STILL embarrassed because of my bacne. HELP!

diet.. hormones change.. its common. I have never had a major problem with it, but I have watched many close friends with BAD acne get rid of it using ProActive.

This was the worst drug I've ever taken.

Dried me up like a prune. I'd go with pro-active first. I believe they make a body wash.

id suggest going to the doctor first. I know someone who thought it was an acne issue but it was really inflamation of the pores and was treated with a 2 week amoxicilin cycle. worth checking out, since it could be that simple

I had the same problem in fact my upper back would just pop out pimples all over...everyday I would get a new one no matter how much I cleaned. I finally figured out it was the hair product i was using...and it would stay on my back after I showered and then i'd use it again....I stopped using the products and my back is clear again.

Haha bacne! That's what I call it! Bacne and chacne. Try clearasil, it does a great job of getting rid of all of the oils. Pop the zits before rubbing it in. Watch for over irritation, but rubbing alcohol works wonders. I started shaving my chest and got a few ingrown hairs that turned into zits, and it was a mess up there. I figured out the correct shaving direction and clearasil + rubbing alcohol got rid of them pretty quick. I wouldn't recommend applying them one after another, maybe clearasil in the morning, alchy in the day, and clearasil again at night. It just rids the oils. You can't really kill a zit, but you can discourage it from living by removing it's oils, hehe.

Also if you want some small tips that should aid in this:

Wear a moisture-wicking layer in the gym, such as an Adidas Response Vest. This keeps you dry, and as a sweaty back is prime feeding ground for bacteria, this will help.

Also after your workout wash your back with an anti-bacterial soap, and use a loofah so as to exfoliate the cells. Also if you still have problems after this try something with Benzoyl Peroxide, or Salicylic Acid. Try one then the other to see which works best for you.

Go to a dermatoligist, get a prescription for topical antibiotic pads, use it and it should go away or start dissapearing greatly in 24 hours if you use it twice. And once it goes away just use it every 3-4 days becuase theres only 30 pads. The stuff really works greatly!

hi there,

I was not into medications to heal my acne, when I had it. So if you don't like using drugs to cure it then try this.

I bought a book a while back called "The Acne Cure". Really good book, you can look on Amazon.com for it if you want to read it.

Basicall all you need is the following products - i am not sure what country you are in but i get them from the supermarket and the chemist here.

1) Nutrogena Cream Cleanser
2) Nutrogena Liquid Cleanser
3) Olay Moisturiser (non-greasy and no perfume)
4) PanOxyl Cream 5% Strength (chemist)

All you do is;

MORNING

Use product 1 on wet face and leave for 2 mins
Rinse and leave face wet
Use product 2 on wet face and leave for 2 mins
Rinse and pat dry
Apply product 3
NIGHT

Use product 1 on wet face and leave for 2 mins
Rinse and leave face wet
Use product 2 on wet face and leave for 2 mins
Rinse and pat dry
Get some ice cubes and rub them over your face to chill your skin
Apply a small amount of product 4, rub in gently leave on all night

REPEAT

I have written this for your face, but you can use it anywhere on your body.

Be sure to shower after your workouts, and dont rub the skin to hard when cleaning, as this can make it worse.

Hope this work outs for you.

Cheers

Yes, see a Dermatologist.
I work part-time at a dermatlogy clinic, and I can safely say the causes of acne break down like this.

#1 Poor Diet- In the USA 96% of teens will experience acne, in Africa where only unprocessed foods are available a remarkable 3% of teens have acne.

#2 Overactive hormones- Specifically Testosterone and Androtestosterone. A simple blood test can rule this element out.

#3 Emotional distress- Lose a job? Loved one? Break up? Even past trauma that you have'nt confronted or talked about with a therapist can cause problems.

The rest breaks down into case/trace specific occurances. And please do me a favor, think before you buy, Acne takes a long time to occur and treat, whenever you see "24 hour results!" or "Acne free in 3 days" just ignore it. They NEVER work.

Best of luck! :)

oil from ur skin and residue from hair gel/spray/etc may accumulate on ur sheets on ur bed and on ur pillow. so whenever u lay down, its like laying down in ur own body oil (may be an overstatement, but im trying to make a point). constant exposure could contribute to breakouts...especially on ur shoulders and face. and if u sleep like i do, ur shoulders r constantly rubbing up on ur pillows. and i know this could perhaps be helped by just showering, but im sure theres times where ur skin comes in contact with ur sheets or blankets when u havent showered, whether it be ur napping, stretching out, anticipating going to class or work, reading, jerkin off, etc. im sure u wash ur sheets consistently, im not saying u don't. just keep it in mind, thats all.

Like someone mentioned above I would recommend going to the doctor. Maybe you are allergic to something? My boyfriend battled what he thought was acne for a long time and it turned out he had a wheat/gluten allergy. As soon as he cut that off his diet his face cleared up.
So yeah I would recommend you go to the doctor to check it out.

I had really bad acne on my back and shoulders when I was in my teens. Best advice I can give is already being given here - go and see a dermatologist. Its too long ago to remember what it was they suggested I use but, I do remember it making a huge difference.

Don't necessarily expect it to clear up completely overnight. Chances are that time will be the best healer and that you'll grow out of it - I certainly did.
