Ellipticals

Hi, this is my first post! I'm glad I found a place to ask my questions.

Anyway, for those of you with elliptical trainers, I was just wondering how long it took you to notice a difference, where the differences were, how long you worked out and how many times a week, etc. I just bought my own and I'm excited, so I thought I'd ask what other results people have received. :D
 
In my old neighborhood there was a small community gym with an elliptical. I used to do cardio on it. Before doing the elliptical, I used to run on the treadmill (which did a number on my knees) and sometimes in the stair climber.

I can't really answer your question, since I was already in ok shape when I started using it, however I found it to be just as effective at keeping the weight off as both the treadmill and the stair climber. This is coming from a guy that went from 192 lbs to 157 lbs by eating better and doing a lot of cardio (unfortunately some of that weight came back, I'll get rid of it once again).

About 6 or 7 months ago, I moved and no longer have access to the gym. Needless to say I've gained a few pounds since. I ordered an elliptical to have in my new house, it should be arriving later this week.

I believe you made a great purchase, like I said before I believe ellipticals are just as effective as other cardio equipment while being easy on the joints.

When I started doing using an elliptical (a Precor model at the gym I belonged to), I was only able to do 1 min, 45 secs - but it took me I'd say around 6 months to get to 30 minutes, and then to start adding resistance. I also discovered how to do the built-in programs (currently on lvl 10 of I believe 15 for most programs) on the StarTrac at the gym I belong to now. This is about 1.5 years after starting regular usage. about 7 months after I started with the elliptical I began taking spinning classes, and now my current cardio project is impact training on the treadmill. Hope this helps.
 
First time on an elliptical (8 years ago) I could only go 3 minutes. I can now go all day if I didn't get bored after an hour. I lost about 35 pounds in 6 months an have kept it off.
