I suggest you eat more than 1200 a day, from what i've learnt, having a too greater deficit will cause your body to believe there is a food shortage, and will therefor 'retain' fat. Try increasing the intensity of your workout too.

If it wern't the above, it could possibley be a health issue or genetic, but it's unlikely if you've experience weight loss before. Fruit definitely helps, so add that ontop of your current diet, and also drink atleast 8 glasses of water a day if possible. Your best bet would be to post your current diet in a seperate thread.

I'm no expert, so don't swear by my advice but this is what i've learnt.

Good luck losing weight! Just stick at, and you'll succeed.

making an elliptical easier

hi,
well i purchased an elliptical , proform 750 s. its pretty small n was a good price-i cudnt afford anything expensive.
i haveused it oncfe or twice now, and it is too tough. i am used to going on some ellipticfals for an hour or two easily, this one is too hard. i know they all should provide a cfhallenge, but this resistance is on 1, and i can barely do 10 mins without stopping.

is there any way to make it easier? like fixin the settings or loosening something ??

i really want to make it worthwhile i was planning on using it for 2 hours daily-please help.

Well if its a challenge, build up to it, one day do 10 mins, the next session try to push yourself to 12 or 15 and see where you are in a few weeks. If you can jump on something and do it for two hours, it's probably not intense enough to give your cardiovascular system a good work out.

On another note, did you put it together yourself? If it feels very stiff, then maybe something was put together wrong.

Help

I was wondering if you can point be in the right direction. I am trying to understand the best Precor 576i workout to lose weight. I'm 55 and 235lbs and 6'1". My resting pulse is 65. I have been working out for 5 months 5 times a week. Ramp at 11 and resistence at 2 usually averaging 5400 to 5900 reps per session. My heartbeat averages about 127-132 for 20 of the 30 minute session. I've lost some inches but very little weight. Do you know the best program I can do to shed weight or is there a site you recomend. Thank you for any info you can supply.

I too have a very hard time telling how many calories I have burned ont the elliptical. I usually just round the number that the machine says, which is probably waaay off. Oh well, at least I use it.:)

The ellipticals I use ask for my weight....so I really hope they are accurate. I would go crazy if I wasn't burning something close to what the machine shows.

They're based on averages for your height and weight. The ones I use also have heart rate monitors which tell me what zone I'm in.

I keep my heart rate around 170. I know everything is based on averages, I try not to place too much importance on them but it's pretty difficult. I actually don't know how accurate the heart rate monitors are, it varies from machine to machine. I'm thinking about buying my own hrm.

I jump rope, too. I vary it a bit though so I dont get to bored. I do one min of light jumping, not too fast, but not to slow either. Slow enough to have a bounce before the jump though.
Then I do a fast as I can jump for one min.
Next is a "running" jump, alternating jump foot and kicking out with the other one.
Then I find a line (I jump rope in the parking lot) and jump forward over the line, then backward over it. After a min, I turn sideways and jump to the right over it, then back over it to the left.
Another min of fast as I can is usually thrown in here.
Then a min of either slow jumping or the "running" in place jumping.
Then I do a jump with my feet about 2.5 ft apart, bring them together to jump over the rope, but put them back down apart from each other again sort of like a jumping jack. When I first started I had to alternate jumping with the feet out and jumping back in with them at center. Now, I dont need to and I can definitely tell when I go out dancing! I can do a jump squat during dancing without missing the beat of the song and.. anyway, you dont want to hear about that... I just like to dance.

All above are for one min, then going to the next. I estimate or check my watch when I hit myself in the legs again. Which I do quite often.

I continue this routing for a half hour just cycling back through. I only do it once a week because I dont like to jump rope alone. I feel like an idjit :). So, I'd do it more if I could find someone to do it with me more consistantly. When I really really tire myself out though I just do a sidestep until I'm able to start jumping again.

I use a beaded rope, too. I have a speed rope but dont like it because it gets twisted and then I smack myself in the legs even more repeatedly. Currently I have two bruises on my left leg from my last jump roping. If it were my speed rope, it'd definitely be more than two bruises. I don't know if I'll go to a weighted rope only because I like that the beaded rope doesn't twist on itself on the bottom like the speed rope does. All weighted ropes in stores here are the speed rope type. I haven't looked online because that would require use of my credit card.

I've been thinking about getting a jump rope. Anyone know how to tell how long a jump rope is ideal for your height? I'm very short (5'0"), so I would probably need a shorter than average rope. :)

a properly fitting rope should you should be able to stand on withyur feet about 2 feet apart and the handles should come up to your armpits.. a lot of fitness jumpropes have adjustable handles where you can just cutt he rope to the desired length.

Mine's a bit long, I just wrap it around my hand once though and it's perfect then. I never even looked to see if I could shorten it up, I should check that out next time.

for those that can't jump rope... i cant because of my knee, try out a trampoline its a nice change up in cardio that provides a lot of the same benefits.

I am in the minority, but I really do prefer the treadmill. It forces you to be honest! What I mean by that is that you can't go slower than the set pace or you will fall off the back.

I actually like to do 20 minutes on a treadmill followed by 10-20 minutes on either an elliptical machine or exercise bike. The treadmill is the hard work part of my cardio...and the elliptical keeps those calories burning with less effort.

It is my opinnion that the treadmill will help you get to your goals much quicker than the elliptical...but they both have their place.

I agree. I burn way more calories on the treadmill in less time than on the elliptical. Right now my goal for the next few weeks is to burn 400 calories per day doing cardio. I do 300 on the treadmill and 100 on the elliptical. I think the treadmill is easier.

i reallt like the elliptical its allot easier on the knees and i feel like a burn alot more calories on it to.

ever time i get on it i go for about 45 minutes or when ever the calorie counter gets to 800.
