elliptical--how much expected to lose

how is everyone?
i am new to this site, and hopefully it will aid in my weight loss journey!
i am in my 3d year of university, and unfortunately being way from home, and having no time to sit down and eat, caused me to gain a lot of weight, with my quick fix meal plans.
i am trying to lose about 50 pounds..
i am 5'2, weight 151. and according to my body fat % i want to weight about 110, at max.
anyways, i am goig to purchase an elliptical, used however, i cant put out more than 200.
i just wanted to ask people, howi should use it? i have used the elliptical before at the gym, and i normally , if its a ilght weight one, put it at level 10, so i burn about 1000, calories in 1 hour. im sure the calories are a bit off, but it still makes me happy that im burning atleast more than 500 most likely.
is this a good idea?
i have shoddy knees, and i dont like to put toomuch strain on them. surprisingly the elliptical is better for them, than the treadmill is.
i was planning on using it for an hour, every single day. and eating more fruits and vegetables, but still not changing my way of eating totally.
i never overate, or ate too much cholesterol or fattening foods. i am a vegetarian, most of my diet is indian food. the wya i gained weight was, having no time for breakfast, eating a really heavy lunch, and then not eatin anythin for dinnre. and sittin around in my room studying all day.
please just let me know if an hour of exercise ont he elliptical, will give me results.
my aim is atleaaaaast 5 pounds/month. is an hour/daily, going to give me that kind of goal?
