Dylan's Diary

When I come in way under calories and it's too late for me to eat I usually just plan a big breakfast and go to sleep. We don't have to be perfect all the time.

Thank you, it means a lot.

Also, bodybuilding.com has a body type calculator with a few simple questions about yourself. I guess I'm (ENDOMORPH: 88%... MESOMORPH: 13%)

Here is the link so you can check it out: Link Removed

Interesting, it says I'm between an endomorph (50%) and a mesomorph (38%). I like how you're not specifically one body type. No Body's the same. lol Nice post!

The terms ectomorph, mesomorph and endomorph were coined in the 1940s by a guy called William Sheldon, who believed that the size and shape of a person’s body were indicators of intelligence, temperament, moral worth, and even future achievement. His initial visual methodology has been discounted as subjective and largely discredited.

Body types are certainly “real” in the sense that some people are naturally tall and thin, some are short and fat, while others are athletic and muscular. But that doesn’t mean you should use them to guide your decisions about what to eat and how to exercise.

Somatotypes do change, do not put yourself in a box and then use that as an excuse as to why you may not be achieving the results you want.

While somatotyping works fine as a way of describing the way someone looks, it starts to fall apart when it comes to prescribing how they should train and eat. That’s because somatotypes weren’t meant to help people decide what their diet and training program should look like.

Nor were they supposed to be used as a way to estimate your potential for muscle growth or fat loss. What somatotyping was designed for and what some people are now using it for are two completely different things.

Good to know the size and shape of my body doesn't say anything about my moral worth!

Little behind on my reports but today is weigh day.

Let's first begin meals of today

Breakfast:
Banana
Water

Lunch:
Oats w/ Scoop of Peanut Butter
Whey Protein

Dinner:
Bowl of Spaghetti
Water

Weight: 348

That's right, didn't lose a single god dam pound this week, and I'm very disappointed. Last week I weighed in at 348, and now today I still weigh 348. Not sure what I did wrong, but I exercised more than usual, and ate pretty good, definitely under my 500 calorie deficit. Very shocking, not fun to have a good week turn into no progress.

I'll weigh myself this coming Sunday, and see if I dropped any pounds before Week #8 starts this coming Monday. Probably going to exercise tomorrow like a mad man, and eat super strict, I need to make progress this week.

Exercising more than you're used to tends to make your muscles retain water, which of course looks bad on the scale but has little to do with fat.

7/21/19

So, it's officially the end of Week #6 and I weighed myself early this morning and I now weigh 347 so I guess I lost a pound this week. It's better to have some progress than none, but I guess I really have to start turning things up a notch for Week #7. Hopefully I can get back on track, as it's starting to get harder to lose weight for some reason, may have to increase physical activity slightly to keep up with my progression. Meals for today...

Breakfast:
Banana
Water

Lunch:
Oatmeal w/ scoop of peanut butter
Yogurt
Whey Protein
Unsweetened Tea

Snack:
2 string cheese
Water

Dinner:
Beef Nachos from this really good restaurant
Water

As for activity today, I walked the dogs today, and pretty much had the day off from work. So, tomorrow I have school, and I might try to fit in another exercise session if I have time.

Well, start of Week #7

Today was decent, I didn't really eat as much as I should have, but I was pretty active most of the day.

Breakfast:
Oats w/ scoop of peanut butter
Whey Protein
Water

Lunch:
Banana
Water

Dinner:
3 slices of Pizza
Water

For some reason, wasn't all that hungry today. Everything is getting kind of weird now to be honest if I could say the least. For one, my weight loss is kind of slowing down, and also, not really feeling as hungry as I use too. Not sure if this is because my stomach is getting smaller, or I simply don't have that addiction anymore to eat everything in sight, it's almost like I can say I'm getting use to portion control and such.

However, I'm going to get to the bottom of this weight loss plateau thing, or maybe I'm just going crazy? Who knows, maybe my body is trying to catch up and understand what's going on, I've always been a big guy all my life, so I'm sure my body needs to catch up a little bit and adjust. Or maybe I'm doing something wrong? Not exercising enough? Muscle growth? Scale sucks? I'm not sure, but things are getting kind of weird now. IT'S ALL WEIRD lol

Hi, Dylan. I know the feeling when you can't work out what you are doing wrong. In your case, I feel you are not eating enough to lose weight. Perhaps your metabolism has really slowed down. How tall are you?

I'm 6ft 2

I would suggest running your stats through a calorie counter to see how many calories are recommended per day for you to lose about 2 lbs a week. It looks to me at a glance that you are eating a lot less than you should. I know it sounds strange, but sometimes you need to eat more to lose weight.

Yeah I know how much i should be eating from my TDEE its 3200 calories. But idk i just dont feel hungry :/

Maybe you just need to give it time. Focus on eating healthy, delicious food rather than on the amount. A one-week plateau (I think) isn't even much of a plateau.

Hey Dylan, I agree with LaMa, losing "only" a pound in a week ain't no plateau. I had one week a while back when I gained a pound, it didn't feel good, but looking back I can see it was just noise in what has really been pretty consistent weight loss. The next week I gain a pound, and I am sure it will happen so long as I ate right I will be less concerned.

You need to remember where you started, just 7 weeks ago you were at 359, your weight loss has been consistent and impressive. You should be proud of that, you are an inspiration to me.

The others could be right as to how much you are eating. It doesn't seem to make sense, but I have found that I need to eat at least 1,200 calories a day or so to maximize weight loss. I am shorter, older, and more sedentary than your are so I am sure your minimum calorie intake to lose weight is very different from mine, but the idea is the same.

I have that same feeling, and I find it very odd. I am learning to separate my feelings of hunger from my craving to eat and overeat. I have discovered that I am not really hungry very often, and when I am I quickly eat something and it goes away. I find my cravings are not timed to match hunger, in fact a lot of my feelings of craving come right after eating when I am not hungry at all. It is a struggle to fight the cravings and eating when I am not hungry is not always comfortable right now. The result is at the end of a lot of days I am under on calories, sometimes I eat a late snack to bring my calories up, last night it was cherries and apricots, but it still feels a little funny to be eating when I am not hungry.

Anyway best of luck to you with it, I am sure you will find a way to keep on losing the weight you need and want to lose.

That is great, just great!
I know that feeling, sometimes you just don't believe the good news. But you earned it, now keep it up.
Thank you!

Yeah, I couldn't believe it, so I was like NO WAY and I checked multiple times. I am very happy, and Monday will be the start of Week #8!!
