Good to have competition as a motivator, even if you don't see them. In fairness braver and stupidity are often one and the same, so you can console yourself as being brighter than either of us.
One old training partner I had demonstrated my distaste for moderation and love of excess beautifully. I am a weight chaser, always have loved to go heavy as I can, he was a rep chaser, liked to improve endurance by going for reps. This combination usually results in a sensible moderate training program as both give way a little and meet in the middle. Instead we did predominantly drop sets starting at 1 or 2 RM removing a bit andother 1 or 2 reps and keep going until there is nothing left to move or move it with, giving high weight and reps combined. Not found anyone that insane since, very disappointing really.
Today I am reminded that DOMS can literally be a pain in the posterior.
With the years I have been training I am very used to aching more on change over week, especially if there has been a short rest. Over-training means increasing the risk of prolonging DOMS. However it is a good while since I have added totally new movements to my program and tried to keep intensity high on this and I didn't factor that in.
The system of run, then do squat workout with new activity and wake up not feeling too bad didn't ring any alarm bells. I was feeling so good that I went for my lunch time run, a bit below minimum pace but even that didn't raise any flags. A few hours later despite doing proper stretches etc. I started to ache, and it continued to get worse throughout the evening, not helped when my wife gave me a gentle kick up the rear messing around which hurt like hell.
Today I have the combined effect of all of the training this week hitting me, so I am walking like a cripple whose been anally invaded and feeling very stupid. Serves me right.
