Doing decline bench seems to do nothing for me

I've tried doing it (I have a decline bench with leg holder) but I don't feel anything doing it. I bring the bar down to my lower chest area but my chest is doing nothing I think. With incline and regular bench I can definitely feel the muscles in that area working. What could I be doing wrong?

not to mention that doing decline bench also involves an awkward position to be holding weights in.

I always felt decline isolated my chest better than flat, mostly because I used less of the deltoids... But I think that extra weight goes to your chest and tri's evenly.. But on decline you should be able to lift heavier weights for the same number of reps..

I don't get it, I did some sets of decline with a decent weight and I still felt nothing in my chest? Am I supposed to? I brought the bar down to about mid chest or to when my upper arms were parallel with the floor. I barely felt anything in lower chest and I felt that my arms were doing all the work.

Everybody reacts differently to different exercise positions. Trying new exercise is part of the fun. Try it out for a couple of weeks and if you don't feel that it is working, pitch it! Keep a journal so that you don't end out doing "worthless" moves in the future.

With this in mind, maybe it is time for you to drop decline and move back to flat where you do feel a much better burn and workout.
